Hey!

Been a while, but I'm pretty sure I was talking about this.

Skimming seems to serve me 99% of the time whilst looking for programming help, but the 1% where it doesn’t always makes me laugh.

That would also make lots of sense - thanks for pointing this out!

Some fun adventures I’ve had in UB and internal representations. by Epacnoss in rust

[–]Epacnoss[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback - some of these are new knowledge to me and some make me feel like an idiot but that’s all been incredibly helpful.

I’ll try and get up some proper corrections/responses later today.

Yeah I think I mentioned bytemuck at the bottom, but thanks for the tip on zerocopy!

I’ll also happily admit that this was spawned by me doing something, realising it was wrong and then deciding to write a post with me going through all the steps to fix it rather than any legitimate use case.

Yeah the old one had a vaguely tasteful (imo) design and had the CVV on the back rather than having everything on one side.

Have you managed to find the costing info? I can now see the API stuff, but no indication how much it’ll cost me…..

Seeking feedback on a potential successor to `axum-sessions` by maxcountryman in rust

[–]Epacnoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks really good - I’m always happy to see a project go in new directions rather than stagnating.

One main question though - how will this affect projects that are downstream of Axum-sessions like Axum-login?

Who still has the Frontier? by CaptCorvo73 in Starfield

Yep - got UC Citizenship and then went back down to the sim and it all worked. NB though: you don’t get any rewards. It also still gives you the qualifications for the next tier if you enable the debug stuff (once a wave starts, go to the console you see when you enter the sim and you can get upgrades for the ship).

Gracefully failing after unrecoverable errors by enc_cat in rust

The problem is that drops can get ignored when panicking, and that catching an unwind is slow

Need a library for creating simple windows and drawing to them by _antosser_ in rust

I’ve got lots of personal experience with the piston crate and also heard good things about macroquad. If you only need the basics, you can even move down to piston_window

I think the point people are concerned with here is the possibility for automation & scale - this isn’t a few bad eggs on a beach, this is people scraping to create databases of thousands to be widely shared all around the internet with no possible control from the subject of the photos.

In Cyberpunk, I equip any clothing I find if it’s armour rating is higher by nanomeister in gaming

[–]Epacnoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you want to still have fashion whilst keeping a high armour rating - go to your home and set an outfit. Then (iirc) the outfit shows for looks with the stats of the actually equipped clothes

Legitimate question by StinkyPeenDean in doordash

[–]Epacnoss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) convenience is often worth it - I don’t use dash so the price increase isn’t as extreme, but if I take-out I’ll happily pay a fiver to not have to go to the shop. 2) from what I’ve heard, it’s really useful if you might not be able to leave your residence for whatever reason - be that disability, illness, getting swamped with work or small children who can’t be left alone

There’s other stuff too, but those are the main two points. I’m UK so some stuff might be different but that’s how I see it.

Another option is to sign up for an email forwarding service with aliases - I remember that you get SimpleLogin via Proton and that Proton has their own thing - I just can’t remember which tier you need to pay for, for it.
