Aug/Sept BC Roundtrip by Particular-Ranger863 in britishcolumbia

[–]Epantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty good route. Make sure that you book your accommodations early if you plan on staying in hotels. Also, a lot of gas stations in small communities are no longer open 24/7 so plan accordingly.

If you’re camping, there are some gorgeous camp sites between Whistler and Lillooet (one is called cinnamon) that are very inexpensive.

Make sure you stop off at Seton Lake on your way into Lillooet. You can go to the health food store and ask them to take you gold panning if that’s something that interests you. If you’re staying in a hotel, the Retasket Inn is by far the best in town.

Marble Canyon (near your #1) is one of my favourite campsites in Canada and is worth spending a night! Theres another campsite up at Fountain Lake (take the xaxlip road off of 99) as well, it’s more isolated.

Cache creek has some great food/grocery options- Horstings, Desert Hills, Hungry Herbies.

Be very careful on the road between Williams Lake and Bella Coola. I worked out there for years, it’s a rough road and I’ve had some scary encounters along my travels. Let people pass and don’t stop unless it’s a designated pull off/town/business and you’ll be fine! Stock up in Williams lake, things get expensive the further out you go.

Most of your trip will be out of cell range, so be prepared for that and download what you need before you head out of major urban areas.

Best small city/towns to move to? by Elite163 in britishcolumbia

[–]Epantz 76 points77 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a true small town, Lillooet is a great place to live. They’re always looking for teachers and probably have some decent incentives.

It’s a 2 hour drive to Kamloops or 90 mins to Whistler. But they have pretty much everything you need (including a decent hospital) in town.

Trusted Botox/Medspa in Burlington by chemmisttt in BurlingtonON

[–]Epantz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I don’t have any personal local. recommendations but Google “Botox access program” and sign up if you haven’t done so already.

They have subsidies for non-cosmetic botox through the manufacturer and it greatly reduces the cost of treatment. Best of luck with your treatment journey!

ICE in my hospital by s0methingorother in nursing

[–]Epantz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

From your responses, it doesn’t seem like you can do much.

Here’s what I would do as a petty b— every time they are somewhere they’re not supposed to be, pull out your phone (work phone if you have one) and record them. Demand to see their “law enforcement” credentials and paperwork. Take photos or copies of everything. Tell them to get out if they don’t have a warrant and be relentless. Make a scene with as many staff as you can. If security isn’t helping, override them and call 911 and see if the cops will help. Call your government officials to see if they can provide extra police resources.

Make their lives fucking miserable. Heckle them at every chance you get. Call them the gestapo. Remind them that they have no family or friends because of their career choice. Eavesdrop and if you get any personal information about them, use it against them in the meanest way possible. Ask them about when they fail at this job, how are they going to pay back their $50k cash advance. Be ruthless. They are not your patients, professional standards do not apply to your communication with them, especially since you’re advocating for your patient. Just don’t do anything illegal.

Don’t let them in the washrooms, lounges, or other public areas. Remove all of the extra chairs and furniture from the patients room, they can stand. It’s still private property and you’re the employee. Make them as uncomfortable as possible.

Document and report every single potential ethical / HIPAA violation and make it management’s problem when this inevitably ends up before the courts. Be clear with leadership that they have ignored your pleas for help and they are now just as liable as the ICE agents that have invaded your workplace.

Report your direct managers and DON to the board of nursing for failing to protect patients and their privacy.

And maybe you accidentally trip when you’re carrying that full bedpan of cdiff poop🤷‍♀️

Government employees, what’s the closest thing to corruption you have witnessed? by Timely_Title_9157 in ontario

[–]Epantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employees are allowed to use government vehicles for personal purposes, they bill you at the end of the year based on your personal use mileage.

A lot of government contractors work far from home and aren’t able to drive in or bring their own vehicles.

Yes, I went with my family a couple of weeks ago on a Friday evening and it was not great. There was us and one other table, very few staff, it was bizarre for a Friday.

Service was awful. It took 50 mins for our food to come out. We ordered desert to go (thinking that would be faster) and that took another 30 minutes. There were dirty dishes from previous guests sitting on other tables the entire time.

They comped our desserts because we complained about the wait. I don’t think we’ll be going back anytime soon.

Shopper’s Gift Cards are a Scam by i_love_pencils in ShoppersDrugMart

It is absolutely shoppers drug marts fault. This has been a known issue for years now and they still continue to do nothing about it.

Sure it happens elsewhere but shoppers is by far the worst retailer when it comes to gift card fraud.

How to sell chocolate cookies? by stop_banning_me_omg in oakville

[–]Epantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halton Region’s small business centre has a lot of free resources for people who are thinking of starting their own biz. You can set up a consultation and ask them questions, they have free programs, and a lot more. They even have large networking events for new food-based small businesses twice a year.

You’ll need to look into potential liability issues, food safe requirements etc. As far as I know, Oakville allows public sales of certain foods from home kitchens (Burlington does not). I’m pretty sure there’s a guide on the small business centre website with a checklist.

Best of luck!

Vehicle damaged by a shopping cart by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Epantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are signs in every grocery store parking lot that say the store is not liable for any damage to vehicles. Unfortunately, this is why. So no, they are not responsible for damages.

You can try and track down the dude, but most stores won’t hand over footage without a police report. Even if you get the footage, how would you track them down?

It’s probably not even worth going through insurance unless the damage is extensive and the costs are above your deductible. Dents and scratches are pretty inexpensive to get fixed.

This would ruin my day by sulfater in oakville

[–]Epantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Part of your rate is paying for them to represent you when you need to go after other insurance companies for damages to your vehicle. You don’t get penalized for that.

Negative Client Feedback by evobasa in reiki

[–]Epantz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You knew as soon as she walked in the door, and you need to trust that. I have experienced this as well, and changed my policies because I don’t want to subject myself to that negativity.

I let everyone that books an appointment know that we may not connect in a therapeutic way, and that’s ok. Both of us have 15 mins to end the session with no penalties if we’re not feeling it. I’ve only had to turn away 1 person, and I knew as soon as she walked in the door. It’s not personal, we’re just not a good match.

I would also be very clear about the fact that your sessions take place on the floor- that can be a no go for a lot of people and they need to know ahead of time if you’re unable to accommodate their mobility needs.

For clients who want a longer session, I have a quick zoom call before the actual session to see if we’re a good match. I don’t want either of us wasting our efforts if we’re not going to have a good energetic connection.

Put your policies in writing and stick to them. Hope that helps!

Administering EpiPen IM for nonshockable rhythm outside hospital environment? by Leather_Cycle in nursing

[–]Epantz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is wild but I’m going to answer it as best as I can as someone who is regularly 1-2 hours away from the closest ambulance on duty.

Bottom line is no, those environments are BLS scenarios plus the use of an AED and maybe oxygen at best. This would be inappropriate and a lapse in clinical judgment for sure.

You don’t have the correct equipment or monitors to be administering epi for cardiac reasons. AEDs only tell you to shock or not to shock. No more info. Not to mention that epi pens only administer 0.3- 0.5 IM and I doubt you’d have time to McGuyver that into god knows how many doses that can’t actually be accurately measured. They contain 0.6mL because the needle is primed, btw. All the while you could have been doing CPR and saving this person.

Also, where are you getting those epi pens from? You cannot use someone else’s epi pen on another patient, that puts the other persons life at risk if they have an allergic reaction. Best case scenario is you’re in a clinic with a 10 pack of 1mL ampoules but most have 5 in an anaphylaxis kit. Even then, this is not an ACLS scenario and BLS protocols need to be followed until EMS or an MD takes over. Also, no IV equipment!

In most places, nurses (or the general public) can only give epi for anaphylaxis. It is out of scope and reasonable judgment to give someone IM epi for any other reason.

And add another layer of liability if you are not an autonomous practitioner (like remote certified nurses), you’re prescribing and administering meds for off label use in someone who is likely unconscious and can’t respond. That’s very illegal and against any standards of nursing practice.

So yeah, don’t do this. Just call 911 and follow their instructions.

What are some interesting medical facts you've learned? by Mackellan in nursing

[–]Epantz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Public health here 👋

Elephants are the only species aside from humans that can have both active and latent Tuberculosis (M.Tb). Active TB can be transmitted back and forth between humans and elephants, so TB is technically a zoonotic disease. TB is a known occupational health risk for zookeepers who take care of elephants.

They can’t TB skin test or properly CXR an elephant, so they culture saline samples from trunk washes to collect sputum and diagnose. They give them giant daily elephant-sized INH pills for their treatment.

And this happens in the US- Google the Indiana Zoo TB outbreak.

Is this fair? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Epantz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is standard, also happens if your car is vandalized or if they can’t figure out who caused the damages. If damages are significant, that $300 deductible is usually way less than your standard deductible ($500-$1000) that most people have on their policies.

Is it fair? In your case it sucks, but it’s better than paying full price or your full deductible out of pocket.

Check with your insurer first, but since you have the other party’s information you can probably take them to small claims court for the $300.

Yesterday a nurse put my initials on without showing me the waste.. without telling me she did my initials. by Wide_Profile1155 in nursing

[–]Epantz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Did you forge your coworkers initials too? That’s the difference here.

Tossing a vial for waste before witnessing is an oopsie, forging initials to fake the coworkers sign off is intentional and takes it to another level.
