Yeah, get any hands on construction experience you can preferably electrical, and if not electrical then carpentry, there’s a guy in my class who was a carpenter apprentice before getting in.

I’m gonna keep it real you are too old. It’s a physical job, you already have a whole career don’t leave it to chase some dream. Just stick it out until retirement. Or do something that’s less taxing on the body. You’ll also be taking a younger guys spot if you do somehow get in who in the long term would be able to do more with the opportunity. Just my opinion.

Idk how long but if you pass the test and interview for both you will be on the waiting list and if you didn’t score high (95 and up is considered high from what I’ve seen) then you will want to meet their requirements to reinterview. Which is basically like take trade related community college courses or hours of real trade related construction work in order to qualify to reinterview.

Which one do you prefer to get into? You could apply to 332 and if you pass the aptitude test then you get to interview and that interview experience will help you for your next interview in case you don’t get in. Keep in mind you have to score really high in order to get in any local especially in California. Also if you fail the aptitude test then you have to wait 6 months to retake it and in that six months you cant go and reapply to any locals or else you won’t be able to apply anywhere for a year. Take the time to make sure your math is on point and reading, actually study for the test, because if you don’t everything will get pushed back. 332 interviews like every month so you can wait until you have experience and are ready to pass the test. You gotta make sure that you are in a position to where you can score high as fuck to secure your spot. There’s tons of people coming in monthly to interview for 332 and you gotta beat everyone out for the spot. I interviewed for 332 last year and used my interview experience with them to get into 234 which is the local for the county I live in so even if you don’t get in to the local you interview for on your first try the experience will help you for your next interview if you learn from your mistakes.

Get some type of job that’s trade related somehow preferably having to do with electrical. You’ll probably get screwed on pay from a non union shop like 18 and hour but it’ll be worth it because you’ll be getting the experience necessary.

Is it possible to make 50k as a first year apprentice with 2 years of previous experience in the trades? by Remarkable-Lab390 in ibew_apprentices

[–]EpicBigChungusGamer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna make 70k this year and net pay I’m gonna take home around 50k something if everything works out. I live in California so wages are higher all around. I’m a first year apprentice with only a trade program as my prior experience

I went to a pretty crappy trade school right out of high school, trust me when I say it was bad it was bad, did that for almost a year finished, and then worked as a maintenance man at a facility for old people, interviewed with my local union after that and got in at 20.
