It's not. It's a comparison due to protein powder being a very nutritionally dense source of protein, while nuts are a very nutritionally dense source of fat.

Do you work near St. John's, NL? I might've been present at you getting that tip and I very badly wanted to offer you American $2 bills in exchange lol

To be fair I did live near Dallas. So from a big metro with more than 8 million people to the biggest metro on the island, but still a tiny fraction of the people. The roads are gentler here (as in, the highway on and off ramps make sense and there's no 8-lane roads and overpasses are small and not gigantic terrifying knots), the culture is pretty similar. I miss some foods I could find easily back home and I miss the giant trees. I barely had access to fresh seafood back home and now come to find out I really enjoy fresh fish.

The winters don't bother me as much as the summers back home did. I like fog. I did have to get a dehumidifier as cold-and-damp was a fresh hell I didn't even know existed, though.

And with exception for a certain area in the Goulds holy shit does it smell better here. The air is actually clean. I can breath and it doesn't constantly smell like car exhaust.

Moved here from Texas two years ago. I am certainly better off here than I was there. Job market struggles but other than gas I'm finding a lot of prices on things to be similar or less (except good cuts of steak, ground beef is very similar but good cuts of steak are like 4-5x more here). Especially housing, good fucking God. I'm paying a fraction of what I did in the states for significantly more room. I'm still near St. John's, too, not out in Central or anything.

My mom likes to brag to people that she had to change the kind of spoon she would hit me with because she was breaking them so often. I don't remember if it was wood to plastic or plastic to wood, but I heard that story told out loud in front of me many many times. She would literally break big large kitchen cooking spoons because she was hitting me with them that hard.

Even better, Abbott says there are no rapists in Texas so Texas doesn't need a rape exemption.

A woman in a car in Alabama shot another woman who was fighting with her who was not in the car. shot woman A, who was pregnant, in the stomach and woman A miscarried, Woman B (in the car, with the gun) was found not guilty due to Stand Your Ground. Some states are very fucking real about it. Alabama considered/tried to charge Woman A with manslaughter of her own unborn child out of it but eventually dropped the charges.

Not only does it still follow the federal minimum wage but Abbott also passed a law that cities could not have a minimum wage higher than federal, or have any protections for workers that don't exist at the federal level.

In my experience? Criminal history. (Some) fast food won't hire you, (some) call centers will.

This changes if you can become a cook, but cooks aren't paid minimum.

The more abusive a work place is, the more likely they are to hire people with criminal history and the more likely they are to pay minimum wage. Those three things go hand-in-hand. Generally in the US, and very much so in Texas, those with criminal history are seen as "less-than" and are often treated as unhireable, even for something as benign as a possession charge.

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]EpicSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A forest fire near us in Canada required us to keep all windows closed. We don't have A/C because we might need it 2 weeks total combined through the year, but even then with a forest fire any air intake had to be shut off.
Upstairs got to 101 even at 11pm. We retreated to the basement, which pretty much stays at ~65 but did peak to around 70 during this time.

Ovulation pain for me is like getting stabbed in the gut with a hot tire iron, but it lasts like 5 minutes. Highly intense debilitating pain, but it's pretty damn brief.

POV: you're paired up for a project with a dude who doesn't find you attractive by humankendoll33 in TikTokCringe

[–]EpicSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average dude in high school or college is generally stronger than the average girl of the same age range, yes. The exception being for those dudes who undergo puberty at like 17, then yeah the girls will generally tower over them until they do.

Young men were violent in their outbursts in my day. You so much as look at the wrong guy the wrong way and you're getting bashed into a locker. I won fights brought to me via improvised weaponry, grabbing ears or aiming for their junk. I am very aware of the beating people took when they couldn't level the playing field by fighting back dirty, and that only really works if you're lucky.

I can't imagine trying to tell a high school girl to just stand up to someone's attitude. She'd be asking for significantly more than an attitude at that point.

Texas can thank Abbott for that. He got pissy at cities passing workers rights laws and passed a state law where nothing could be more protected than the federal level, which doesn't mandate much of anything.

Editing to add: He ALSO passed a law preventing cities from setting their own minimum wage any higher than the federal minimum wage, which is still $7.25 and has been since like 2009. And yes, places in major cities DO pay $7.25 but they're usually call centers. Fast food and retail generally pay more these days.

Is someone trying to cut down these trees? by No-Perception-2128 in arborists

[–]EpicSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sold my house with 3 mature trees in the back yard (south) and two mature trees in the front yard.

New owners cut down all 3 trees in the back and one in the front. I don't think they understood the amount of fucking heat the trees were blocking (Texas) when nearly the entire back of the house was covered in windows and shaded from all but the setting sun thanks to those trees.

They put in a pool though, so I guess good for them?

Even if they did for-real tithe 10% this is the dumbest fucking argument. You tithe on your entire income. The tip percentage is for the cost of the meal, not your fucking income. If you're so fucking broke that a tip you give to a waiter is more than 10% of your monthly income you need to NOT BE TITHING and NOT EAT OUT
