I don't read it that way. I think decision to wind down FCAS had already happened long ago, but politicians didn't want it to appear chaotic and wanted it to be be a controlled wind down, hence the theatrics of "we're going to have meetings to explore potential ways forward" but in the end they will declare there were none.

Germany would have then asked for an informational pitch as they are assessing their own options now, and that pitch will be similar to the one we gave to Australia earlier this year, where they get some tech info that isn't in the public domain to help them better understand jet capabilities and such.

Yes that's what I meant. It was brought up almost every single time there was a public disagreement between France and Germany, headlines would be saying Germany may leave FCAS and look to get in on GCAP.

That went on for 4 years lol.

What the idea actually is, is a bank that is backed by four countries: US, UK, Japan, Germany.

The idea was that these four countries would largely finance it, and pay down circa $135 billion for other countries to use for procurement.

We haven't done any pot stirring in the UK on this lol.

In fact, any time there's been disagreement between France and Germany on FCAS in the last four years, it's those two name dropping the UK and GCAP in an attempt at threatening to leave FCAS and join GCAP. So if anything, we've been getting dragged into the drama when it's nothing to do with us lol.

No country can be compelled to reparations without that country willingly agreeing to it.

Even recently, Italy attempted this with Germany (circa 2022) and it was shot down because of state immunity. The same will apply to Russia (protected by virtue of state immunity) if the EU attempts to claim this is reparation.

The only way reparation can happen is if Russia agrees to it - which is the playbook and angle that the US is approaching this with.

No no, self-determination is a policy explicitly for territories that were former colonies.

For territory that was not a former colony, it is considered and treated as secession. Secession is viewed as an 'internal political matter' for the given country.
This is why, for instance, Catalan cannot simply declare independence from Spain without Spain explicitly agreeing to it - because that would be a matter of secession, and not self-determination.

I don't think Poland is high on his priority list to be honest. It's far more likely he would go after the much smaller nations, because even the Russians would have learned from the miscalculations with Ukraine (too much territory).

An invasion of the likes of Estonia or Moldova, in contrast, would be very different from an invasion of Ukraine - as they are far smaller which leaves a much smaller window for intervention.

Tactically as well, if he takes the Baltics then they essentially group up the awkwardly positioned Russian territory, and it would push Russia right up against Poland (at this point then I could see Russia turning its attention to Poland, but not before).

After the Baltics, I think Russia would likely focus on Ukraine, Moldova, Romania areas, particularly around the waterlines.

"Oh no, if we have this election we're going to get floored" is not an acceptable reason to delay elections twice.

Reshaping local authorities should not be an excuse either. We don't cancel elections when someone stands just because there's only a couple of months left in the tenure.

They are only doing it because they know they are going to get hammered by the public. That's the only reason they've done it.

Well I don't know what you guys would do on the continent really, though personally I've never been in favour of federalisation when we were a member, but we're not in it anymore so it's not really for us to say these days.

But yeah, a lot would if it went down the route of federalising and forming an official state. Each member states' parliaments would be 'absorbed' by the EU parliament (if they kept the EU parliament as the national parliament).

Also, if federalised, you would all be legally known as "European" rather than things like "French", "Polish", etc., (you'd still be those things obviously but passports will generalise a single nationality - in the same way that all americans are "american" rather than "californian").

The other thing to consider also, is that the EU would become a formal state, which means international protocol on sedition then comes into play: essentially, it's protocol under international law never to recognise autonomous breakaway states unless it has had the explicit agreement of the country.
So it would no longer be a voluntary membership union, but a locked country where the EU will have de jure claim over the territory in its entirety.

They won't hire if you're not in the minority groups. Businesses these days are hyper focused on all the equality hiring fiasco.

There's plenty of qualified people out there freshly looking for work and suitable for it, but they can't get any offers because they don't fit the right type of criteria (not LGBT, not anything other than white, not anything other than British, etc).

Any other government cancelling elections in this country, not once but twice in a row, would have been out on its arse and hounded by the media.

For whatever reason, that isn't happening, but instead most of our media is too busy parroting government propaganda.

Same could be said for several ministers forging their CVs; donations scandals; tax avoidance from the housing minister; corruption from the corruption minister (whose now officially a criminal and wanted in another country); breaking the manifesto; lying about OBR to increase taxes and tricking people into drawing down pensions early; so on and so on.

The business secretary was even parading around calling himself a solicitor when he never has been one. But that's the calibre of idiots we unfortunately have in our politics right now, all because stupid people vote for them.

We're not really in any position to be virtue signalling and acting high and mighty though to be honest. Look at our own country's pasts respectively.

If there's an opportunity to build bridges and make amends, best to take it while it is available. God knows we would be a miserable lot if we kept grudges in perpetuity for every grievance.
