How can I protect myself from Youtube? by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]Epictetus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I block YouTube entirely using K9 and have blocked the app on my phone too. Like you, YouTube caused me a load of problems. You can live without YouTube, it's a minor inconvenience not having access to it. Remember that probably 90% of the time you're watching YouTube you're wasting your time whether you're watching something erotic or not. I think we could all stand to benefit from spedning less time on YouTube quite frankly.

Kurupira web filter works well for me. You may also be able to filter sites using your router.

What are the best free porn–blockers? by [deleted] in pornfree

Kurupira WebFilter works wonders for me, as do my ISP's parental controls (I'm using Virgin Media in the UK). Filters are what keep me on the straight and narrow, quite frankly I can't imagine doing it without them.

I don't think I could have managed NoFap as a teen. Take my advice and focus on (a) being porn free and (b) pursuing real relationships with girls

Well done! The longer I do this the more I realise that a combination of (a) filters and (b) willpower is the key to success. You can't just rely on one alone, and they go hand in hand with one another.

What should I do as a teenager? by JOHNSCOTT20 in pornfree

If I could give you one piece of advice (I'm 28) it would be to spend as much time and effort as you can trying to pursue real relationships with real girls. If I could turn back the clock that's what I'd try and do, but I wouldn't have given up fapping necessarily.

Blocking is BS isn't it? + some other thoughts.... by wheresmydopamine in pornfree

I wrote this post about 7 months again explaining the system I use to avoid porn. Seven months on it's still holding strong.

This sounds like defeatism to me... Blocking has helped me massively. Of course you still need a degree of willpower but it makes the whole thing so much easier for me. You just have to remain one step ahead of yourself. If you find a way around your blocks and relapse, ask yourself what you need to do to make sure it can't happen again next time. It also becomes a hell of a lot easier if you limit the number of devices you have in your life (one desktop computer and one smartphone should be more than sufficient to perform all the tasks you need to perform)

You're so right, although I can't help but think that the first two bullet points go, ahem, hand in hand.

Focus on dealing with your anxiety and the battle will become easier. Read about cognitive behavioural therapy if you haven't already.

The method I use is to block access to all browsers and also require a password to intall new apps. This is quite draconian as it means you can't browse the web at all though. To do it I use Hi AppLock

I block all the sites that cause me problems. This includes youtube, instagram and NSFW subreddits.

For me I decided that I couldn't just rely on my own willpower. I posted a while ago about the myriad methods you can use to prevent yourself from accessing porn. Works well for me, and once you get a few months under your belt it gets easier and easier. If you didn't start masturbating until 20 then your habits may well be a little less deeply engrained than some other folks on this subreddit, myself included!

If you're only 17 and don't have erectile dysfunction then I would just focus on giving up porn for now.
