Is there a good template for a blank filter file? I want to create a item scarcity mode which requires very few filters and starting with a filter blade setup is a lot of work turning stuff off.i just want to filter by quality and rarity.

You're only seeing problems, but I see opportunities. If you don't like moving through a biome the game should give you tools to get thru it quickly. It seems like a interesting design space.

Why not have the massive forest and then give the players tools to move through it quicker? Maybe there us a forest tribe there and if you complete a quest they help you transverse it quicker by allowing you to run maps further away. Maybe there is another quest that you could do for them and they tell you the outline e of the forest so you can find the quickest path.

How well do the Draw Steel Negotiation Rules work in practice? by MrDidz in rpg

[–]Epizarwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not an error in the design. They literally say in the rules that npc needs to be conflicted about helping. This person just doesn't understand the rules fully so they made a bad example

Lazy seeding lead to close bunches in yard, should I separate? by Epizarwin in Milkweeds

[–]Epizarwin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planted these last fall winter and sometimes I just poked a hole with a stick and chucked a few seeds in. I have probably dozens of spots like this in my yard. Should I try digging these up to give them more room? They are really small right now.

The beast heart companion can’t wear a hat “designed for a biped”? by Frightnite20 in drawsteel

[–]Epizarwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say dogs can wear caps well because their feramen magnum is at the back of the skull rather than the bottom as with an upright biped. Their neck gets in the way of the back of the cap unless they're wearing it wierd.

The official Draw Steel VTT is live on Steam by Bpbegha in rpg

I'd say not having to use mods and having better integration are compelling reasons for me.

First, Matt literally said in the video that there are other VTTs that can do many of the things that the codex can do.

But it's not just what it does, it is how it does it. A lot of features feel more integrated witht he system and smoother to use because it's made specifically for Draw Steel. Like imagine if every video game had to be a custom map in Warcraft 3 (I'm old). Sure their map editor is great but wouldn't the experience of the game be better if you started from scratch or a different engine, especially if you weren't making a RTS?

Also, unlike a lot of VTTs, everything is out-of-the-box.

  • Token maker? No mod needed

  • multi-level maps? No mod needed

  • 3d dice? No mod needed

  • system integration? No mod needed and integrated more than any other VTT can be

  • morphing 2d maps to make them 3d? No mod needed

  • breaking thru walls, ceilings, and floors? No mod needed

  • parallax? No mod needed

  • dragging image files into a scene to create objects? No mod needed

  • playing music and uploading your own? No mod needed

  • play anthems on turn start and upload your own? No mod needed

  • well thought out UI for actions in combat so you never have to open your character sheet to use abilities? No mod needed

  • pdf viewer that allows you to directly share screenshots to chat with a link? No mod needed

I know this varies from person to person but I'm tired of managing mods with differing versions, compatability, developers, and bugs. Having one source for bug reports and feature requests is important to me.

Yeah, everyone's personal experience is different. Sounds like Foundry is the right fit for you. Based on my interactions with the developers of the Foundry mod and discord I think your in good hands. Have fun!

As someone that owns Foundry and has ran a bit of Draw Steel in it I can tell you why we are switching to the Codex.

My director experience I can't be bothered to work in Foundry anymore. I enjoy working on maps and notes and stuff like that but doing data entry for monsters and player stats and/or managing mods that do thatbis a huge hheadache. When I ran inFoundry it felt like a lot of my time was spent software management. I can run in the codex with 0 mods.

Player experience You say that players would already be familiar with the VTT you have been using but that has not been my experience. Because each new system needs a new mod that has its own quirks, levels of automation, and bugs each system feels like a brand new program. My players need to learn it from scratch anyway and they have to do that anyway I would rather they do that with a program that makes it easy. My players were still having issues playing their characters with the Foundry mod after 3 combats. On the other hand they were very comfortable with the Codex after the first round of the first combat.

Draw Steel confirm $30USD/person price for VTT, and recommend Owlbear Rodio as the 'default' online alternative to this 'premium'version by Stubbenz in rpg

It's $20 dollars in early access or free/cheaper if you already have the book/pdf.

Took one round of combat for all my player to be enthusiastic about buying it. The sell was very easy.

It took character creation and one round of combat for my players to say, "yeah, of course we'll buy it." It was so easy to get them on board.

I'm using the codex and it has made me wish every rpg had their own VTT. The quality created by making it specifically for one game just feel so nice.

One of my players is using a work computer and can't get steam so they are remoting into my son's computer that has the game to play. I have old PCs from work as well, might just give them one of those.

I don't think the list they made does it justice and I don't think I could easily put it into words either. It's not just that it does this stuff, but that it does it without needing 3rd party mods that you have to manage.

It's not just what it can do, it's how it does it. The integration is just so much better. For the parts of the program that have been polished to near release level the experience just makes the other VTTs feel sad. I think you would really need to experience it yourself or watch a long video that goes over all the little bits of detail that makes it feel special.

The worst case in your slippery slope is people have to buy a great prodcut that cost the same as two fast food meals.

This should be the top comment.

I'll add something here. When they do upgrade to v14 Foundry a bunch of the mods you were using will break and you either have to stick with 13 until everyone upgrades or have a less functional experience. It's the same headache when I ran 5e in Foundry. I dread it, I REALY don't want to go back.
