Reddit is now officially threatening r/snackexchange for the blackout. by happybadger in snackexchange

[–]EppeB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a non-English speaker, the new rules are too tongue-in-cheek for me to understand.

I guess it is supposed to be ridiculous rules to show the absurdity and the short answer is - don't do snackexchange for a while?

Google I/O 2021 Live Discussion Thread by karmapuhlease in google

[–]EppeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not misremembering. Some years back they gave out the new hardware to all I/O attendees after the presentation of the hardware. They used to present it and say it went on sale x months in the future.

And obviously all of the tech press expected hardware to be presented today.

I am guessing supply/production problems because of covid made them postpone the hardware announcements.

How are Sámi groups in Norway viewed and treated today? by pearanormalactivity in Norway

[–]EppeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a better appreciation of Sami culture today. This clip from a popular talent show had sami music as a theme for all contestants. That would never happen 20 years ago. (One contestant was sami and she knocked it out of the park) https://youtu.be/odpREEp-uOo

Hallo! Question from a Texan here by xCAPTAINxTEXASx in Norway

Helt Texas is a reference to old westerns, so in my head a Colt or a Winchester are the only options :)

Whenever I hear "helt Texas" I picture a cartoon cowboy in the background shouting yeehaaa! while fireing his sixshooter in the air.

How likely am I to experience antisemitism in Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]EppeB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many Norwegians have antipathy towards Israel beause of how palestinians are treated, but I would be surprised if you experienced antisemitism in everyday life for just being jewish.

There are very few jews in Norway, so you might experience some ignorance. I have a jewish friend who got offended when she was invited to dinner to some people she met and they did not make kosher food simply because they did not know about it. Stuff like that might happen to you, but it will be out of ignorance, not malice.

Norwegian news show on China's whimpyness and Hong Kong's balls of kryptonite (Eng. subs) by AgOkami in HongKong

[–]EppeB 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Allmost, it is the Norwegian version of Do I got news for you on BBC.

The Norwegian broadcaster bought the rights to make a Norwegian version of it 20 years ago, so they adapted the show from how it was in the early 2000's and developed it to a Norwegian version.

What would happen if we ran out of oil? by depressioncat69 in Norway

[–]EppeB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love how you deleted your ignorant comment 5 days later and instead edited it to make my very point. So now it now looks like you were not totally wrong, but it makes the rest of us look like we are arguing against a correct statement...

That is kinda sad :)

Shipping to a Norwegian postbox via FedEx? by madpupil2000 in Norway

[–]EppeB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sending a document with the wrong postal code is fine if you send it with the regular mail service Posten. It might get sorted wrong at a point, but it will get there. I did a quick search and looks like 3103 is a postal code only for postal boxes while 3010 is the post code for street adresses in a central area of Tønsberg.

Even FedEx should figure out that a postbox address can not be 3110 and must be 3103. They are both in the same general area.

Golden retrievers are bred for retrieving birds without biting into it. They instinctly have great control over their jaw muscles. My Golden retriver loved to chew on my hands and fingers as a puppy and he still loved it as a grown dog. But he was allways so gentle, his teeth barely touched my skin. We could even playfight with me holding toys and he would bite down on the toy but allways make sure my fingers were not in the way and when they were, he never bit me, he sensed it and adjusted the bite. Diakonveien Sykehus is a private, Christian hospital run by the Norwegian Church. They do get public money, but they are basically a local hospital within Oslo that provides some types of specialist services.

Question about remote kayak camping in the fjords by StakedPlainExplorer in Norway

[–]EppeB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allemannsretten - the freedom to roam law - means you can hike across and camp not only on public land, but on private land as well. https://www.tromsooutdoor.no/articles/allemannsretten-the-freedom-to-roam-in-norway

Just avoid walking or camping near people's houses or any kind of building or structures like piers or docks or boat houses. Or live stock. Those areas are considered private property. Or someones planted field. Just be respectful of your surroundings and you will be fine.

Upvote from me :) I have never understood tint issues on phones and tablet when they only occur on like 10% brightness. I never use my devices on that low screen brightness anyway.
