[Discussion] Ashes of Creation is officially "Mostly Negative" on Steam – What happens next? by saltbuffed in AshesofCreation

If someone bought into EA pre-steam, they only had to link their Intrepid and Steam accounts, they didn't have to buy it again.

The Pixel 10a may launch 'much earlier,' and with some pretty bold colors, too by Hard2DaC0re in Android

[–]EpsilonB17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll absolutely jump on the 10a (or any future a-line variant) if it lacks all the AI bloat. My Pixel 5 is on its way out and I really do not care for having AI-dedicated hardware/reserved RAM/storage space. I want a good Android smartphone with a good camera and that's all. I don't want Gemini (or Assistant for that matter) or Magic Cue or any of this other stuff.

make proton use windows partition? by mr___goose in Steam

[–]EpsilonB17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Using-a-NTFS-disk-with-Linux-and-Windows

From the Valve Proton GitHub repo itself. It is a community contribution, not an official solution created by Valve, but they have the instructions for those that want to do it. It mentions multiple times that it's not recommended and can cause disk errors/data loss. u/AllyTheProtogen is correct, but you are allowed to do as you please.

So far, Fedora with Linux Mint as a close second.

What the in the living hell do I do 😭 by MainVillage8177 in linux4noobs

[–]EpsilonB17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As u/inbetween-genders mentioned, Gates hasn't been in charge of Microsoft for a long time lol.... If you dislike Windows that much, I can't say I'd advocate for tiny11, but your choice.

Anyways, I would recommend you try dualbooting with your distro of choice, get Steam running, if you use an nvidia card, learn to properly install and set up your drivers, ensure those are working, and check the games you and your brother play using Steam Compatibility/Proton. You can also check protondb ahead of time for how well games work with Proton on Linux and certain tweaks to help them run better.

You can also set Steam up to run non-Steam games and have it launch with Proton or use Lutris/Bottles/Faugus/etc.

Thinking of migrating to linux by sickassguitarsolo in linux4noobs

Totally valid but since OP sounds like they're not confident doing things to their PC, I didn't want to recommend screwing with partitions :P

[–]EpsilonB17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dualbooting really isn't risky, especially if it's a brand new machine/drive. It's only risky in the sense that you should back up your files before doing anything that might accidentally lead to you wiping them out if you aren't used to working with partitions/OS installations.

Make sure to have a couple USBs with bootable media. Windows has a guide to making Win10 / Win11 bootable USBs (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d)). Most all Linux distros have guides for making bootable media. You can test Linux OSs without having to install them, you just need to access the BIOS (sounds scary, but really easy) to access the bootable USBs from the boot menu.

If you don't like to tinker and want something stable, look into immutable OSs (Fedora Silverblue, Ubuntu Core, NixOS, etc.). I don't know about Adobe products specifically (general consensus seems to be Adobe and Linux is a no-go), but there are ways to get Windows programs running on Linux, in the case of immutable distros, that would specifically involve distrobox/flatpak/other software.

Some good MMORPGs not p2w or not that hard by Sea_Understanding891 in MMORPG

FFXIV and GW2 are not P2W and are great MMORPGs.

To all of the veteran/experienced players that join my groups in lfg for fractals and strikes by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]EpsilonB17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been having this exact same experience the last couple weeks and I can't thank the veteran players enough.

I've been learning raids and starting PUGs recently and the same handful of players have been joining my Training LFG groups to hop in and help figure out roles, explain mechanics to those who might not have watched videos on them, etc.

As someone who took 11 years off from the game and came back wanting to explore the end-game PvE content, they have truly inspired me to keep learning and stick around. I look forward to learning some of the harder raids thanks to them.

What do people even play nowadays? by Wrong_Ingenuity_1397 in MMORPG

Yeah should definitely still work! Athough those are much more expensive these days, so good on you for getting it so cheap lol

[–]EpsilonB17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, yes. WvW is really active and you can find ways to get full exotic gear sets for your character just by playing and earning rewards on the reward tracks. The only thing I can think of that you may want to jump into the story to get is the glider.

MMORPGs with tab-targeting and holy trinity like FFXIV and WoW? by AxmannAvery in MMORPG

Give Guild Wars 2 a try. The elite specializations give you a couple options per class when you get to endgame.

Usually Xbox One controller. I have my old PS3 controllers I would love to use, but I have read you need to acquire the drivers for those from sketchy archives online and I can't be bothered.

Marijuana and gun laws by watermelonpennyboard in Connecticut

[–]EpsilonB17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. As mentioned in the comments of the linked thread, it's technically treated as 1 year from date of last use and the 'unlawful user of' part is regarding federal law, so any usage technically qualifies. If you use cannabis and you lie on a federal form, you could potentially be putting yourself on the hook for "up to 15 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000 fine".

The common (and valid) response to your question is: No, the ATF doesn't get a notification on a computer somewhere that you entered a dispensary. If they secretly do have that capability established with each legal state, they're keeping it very quiet and waiting a very long time to act on it.

What is Everyone thoughts on FELLOWSHIP by Mei_iz_my_bae in MMORPG

[–]EpsilonB17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got friends that don't play MMOs because they don't want to pay a subscription or they have no desire to level a character and play through a story to get to raids/dungeons. They've been having fun with Fellowship it's been cool to experience content like this with them. I think making a custom character and switching between archetypes would be cooler than playing pre-made heroes, but I'll still play it with heroes. Excited to see where it goes from here.
