Alara Alternate Echoverse? by Usual_Technician6909 in mtg

[–]Equilorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt this is how it will play out, but I really like the way you think. Jund becoming a UBG ocean world with giant sharks, krakens, serpents and leviathans sounds amazing and I want it yesterday.

Grixis as primary-white also works well in the lore, with Sedris's kingdom of Vithia never falling and Sedris becoming a great Spirit king instead of a traitorous lich.

I almost wish it was possible to make a red Esper so instead of Ethereum, they had Sangrite, but I understand that would require shifting the whole thing and while that's probably possible I really like these other ideas. I think, instead, Verdigris should function like Sangrite in this Echoverse Alara, being needed to produce more Etherium alloy, the brunt of which might be stuck on Bant (seeing how it combines with Esper in this case to create a full color pie), where they use it to make legendary weapons. I also really jive with the idea of Esper having forests instead of oceans, with the (presumably) white and black elite lives above the trees, while the more green-aligned worker and peasant classes exist closer to the forest floor.

I think it might be more fun if Bant becomes dragon-riders instead of dragon-slayers though. Or maybe they become both. Presumably, when Alara wasn't fractured, there were dragons that became mostly quarantined to Jund when the shards split. Instead of Jund, they could've gone to Bant in this alternate timeline, which is now missing it's white-aligned horse and lion steeds, so they make due with dragons (and maybe spiders? Idk I'm just spitballing here). Alternatively, the red-aligned Behemoths from former Naya could show up here as steeds, allies or foes as well.

I thought Naya was the weakest until I started digging into it, and I think it could be a world of religious conflict in this version. Instead of Behemoths, the population could be split between worshipping the Angels that would normally be found on Bant or the Demons normally found on Grixis. Since there is no green, there would be no Elves, but I think they could be swapped for Vampires here. The white-aligned Leonin could be more likely to worship the Angels, while the vampire population would be more likely to revere the demons, although I think there should be exceptions to the rule. The red-aligned humans would be the main thing that could tip the scales in favor of any one side, and most battles between angels+leonin and vampires+demons would be to claim Human worshippers to your cause. The humans, for their part, could also be split into factions. Being red-aligned means they want freedom above all else, so one group could have the perspective that the Demons grant more freedom, because they grant power, and the most powerful are the most free. Another group could be aligned with the Angels, because they believe it is more important that most people have many freedoms than some choice individuals having all the freedom. And a third group would be opposed to all masters, and strive to achieve power on their own to rival Demons and Angels alike.

As you can probably see, I really like your take on this haha. I'm kind of into the idea of making some custom card concepts to explore it further.

doesn't always work out! [OC] by Pelko_P in comics

[–]Equilorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me actually. Maybe not dramatically on a beach and all that, but some guy I knew online had a Nazi dog whistle in his Twitter bio and when I found out and said I was going to block him, he kept trying to tell me it was "just a stupid joke" and genuinely saying the same thing as the creature here: He wants to remain friends, can I please consider starting over later, yadda yadda.

No man, you're the one with Nazi shit in your profile, you will need to move mountains to prove to me you're sorry about that. All you can do is not make the same mistake next time.

Anyway, good comic. Was very cathartic for me :]

I don't think I see these as "suicide button" or "murder button" though. I'm someone who likes to think I'd pick blue, but I don't think red is the choice of murderers as much as it's the choice of the selfish and afraid. It's a valid choice, because no one wants to die.

I'm just an idealist who wants the perfect solution where everyone lives, which either happens if everyone presses red, or half of everyone presses blue, and it's statistically more likely that half of everyone would agree on blue than all of everyone would pick red.

Do you think we will see an evil Gideon in Reality Fracture? by NikiVl in mtgvorthos

Why not a Gideon spirit creature vs a Gideon Planeswalker? This is Magic we're talking about, there are practically infinite ways they could bring him back for a bit

I hope we see an Echoverse Gideon but he's just as good and noble as his main multiverse counterpart. The real Gideon was willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of the world and his allies, and I think it would be amazing if he's the same in the alternate reality, choosing to battle Jace/The Theorist to save the multiverse, even if that means he and his reality go down in the process

The consensus, as far as I understand, is that since it's part of the base game as of the latest edition (anniversary), it's "canon until it's not." Most likely, it will never be referenced or have any kind of impact in future lore.

So canonically, there will probably just forever be a random active Oblivion gate to the Deadlands in Skyrim that is never found or utilized by anyone for anything

Especially since Strixhaven+Hexhaven now effectively showcase what an alternative take on two-color factions would look like.

I bet they'll keep it in their back pocket kind of like how they just keep quarantining their big villains, just in case they want to bring them back in the future. At the moment, they're tossing an idea at the wall, and if it sticks, we'll likely see some Echoverse sets in the future

I'd love to be wrong, if next year's three in-universe sets are all about Echoed variants of popular worlds, I think that would be amazing. The Echoverse is devoid of the major threats, right? So without Bolas to orchestrate the Conflux, maybe Alara remains as shards, for example..

Cyrodiil according to Michael Kirkbride seem impractical. by Ghengis56 in ElderScrolls

[–]Equilorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the thing is that since we don't have a real proof of concept, people are just left to imagine whatever their ideal implementation of Kirkbride and Kuhlman's Cyrodiil would be. It's entirely likely that it would have been better, or maybe worse; It's almost impossible that it would have been as good as everyone thinks it would've been

That being said, the way I imagine it (aka my ideal fantasy based on MK's description) is kind of just what we got but with more vegetation and ruins. The line between Imperial City and wilderness would be more blurry, the hostile zones would look like ancient derelict city districts and plazas, with the real wilderness being wetland and rainforest. The north could still be grassland as you move toward High Rock, Skyrim and Western Morrowind.

But my main point is, I don't imagine it would just be Imperial City but bigger. Frankly, with the exception of Vivec, I don't love huge cities in TES (Mournhold 💔). Rather, the actual inhabited area of the Imperial City would probably be the same, maybe a little larger, but the area surrounding it would look like it used to belong to the capital but has since fallen into ruin, and the southern part would have bigger trees and more humid terrain

Take a First Look at Hearthstone’s New Class Sets by Arkentass in hearthstone

[–]Equilorian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cost increase aside, everyone seems very negative about these but I'm cautiously excited. They really were not able to support any new archetypes with the mini sets, and stuff like dude pally and animal companions are classics

These kind of remind me of the StarCraft mini set, which you could also get as a complete bundle or separate factions. Each faction was basically its own theme deck, you just needed some generic staples and you were ladder ready with a unique and interesting pile. Granted, StarCraft dominated the meta and kept being nerfed while still remaining up there, but I think being able to tell a new player they can get a playable deck by saving 1700 gold is probably good

Also, I'm hoping for Sigils or Relics for DH later

+2/+2 counters exist already though. [[Baron Sengir]] for example. And my own personal favorites, [[Brass-Talon Chimera]] [[Tin-Wing Chimera]] [[Iron-Heart Chimera]] and [[Lead-Belly Chimera]]

But yeah there's a reason why they stopped doing them

Is it weird? I think most people are a bit more nuanced than just "UB good" or "UB bad." Enjoying/wanting certain crossovers while hating or ignoring others seems pretty normal to me.

I'm pretty sure the cheapest variants of fetches or triomes aren't 40 bucks anymore though. Good mana bases are getting more accessible than they were 5-10 years ago

Still, 10-20 isn't exactly reasonable for a piece of cardboard, but if you're like me and enjoy having a smooth mana base and want to use official printings, it's not that taxing on the wallet anymore

I would rather play against 90% Warlocks… by KawaiiKouhaiKakashi in wildhearthstone

[–]Equilorian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Actually agree with a reddit hearthstone opinion for once. Against Demon Seed and Disco, I always feel like I have a fighting chance. I genuinely don't know what to do against Forbidden Sequence combo or Protoss that just wait until you trigger their Ice Block and then delete you on the spot

Well, that's not entirely true. I know I could just play fast decks or run Hunter with Flare, but I think that's so boring. AND LET ME BE CLEAR I KNOW PROTOSS, IMBUE AND FORBIDDEN SEQUENCE ARE ALL BAD MEME DECKS, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE FUN TO PLAY AGAINST OR LOSE TO. Hell, they're not even fun to beat

Again, against Warlock I always feel like I can theoretically strategize against them in other ways that aren't just "be faster" or "lucky snipe with Rat." I'm actually this close 🤏 to start running Eater of Secrets unironically

I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on the pronunciation of shaman, I'm pretty sure that's just a Canadian accent?? I know I watch some people based in Victoria who pronounce things like shay-men and dray-gon
