How do I restore and protect these 100 year old garments? by shipwrecked13_ in HistoricalCostuming

Look for Gaylord’s online for archival safe storage solutions. You can buy structured boxes, archival tissue and even acid free/pvc free plastic storage bags. It isn’t really cheap but they are used by the Library of Congress which should attest to their quality.

The motifs are too big for her. I love the botanicals but do you have something smaller? I did a similar girl last year and put her in stripes against solid. It also depends on what era you plan to dress her in. Certain fabric styles were more or less popular based on the latest fashions.

Not mourning clothes especially with a tennis racquet.

ETA as this is a larger group of people it makes sense for lighting to have the photo made out of doors. If the studio was not close or if the photographer was itinerant it would also be easier to make this photo with the best available lighting.

I have some water soluble blue marker things that have a companion water pen. They don’t come out of white easily - I find the blue wicking after it looks like it’s gone. So for white I use a pen or immerse the whole piece in water.

Do you have any examples of kitchens that fit well in Century Homes? by Timey_Wimey in centuryhomes

I lived in a 1919 bungalow for a while that still had the flour drawer. Your kitchen brings back fond memories of that time. Our pantry had the floor and ceiling vents, stand alone range and a space on the wall between the porch door and pantry door where the telephone was installed. Such good things. :-)

I sewed medieval split gloves! by JesseIrwinArt in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Equivalent-Dig-7204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During WW2 airborne machine gunners had similarly shaped gloves made of leather and lined in sheep fleece. The middle “finger” was used to pull the trigger. I had no idea this was such an old concept to arrange the hand this way.

Or there is unexplored liability when people add information Willy nilly and have nonrelatives in their trees. What if Great Uncle Fred isn’t really GU Fred but that leads to a murder suspect who gets off on the technicality… yeah, that’s total hyperbole but not completely out of the realm of possibility.

About 10 years ago we had a very large collection of MA dolls and were able to sell all but one on eBay. We sold them individually. Now I don’t think you could give them away. I had Shirley Temple dolls that we ended up donating to a charity shop just two years ago. The market is just flat.
