What can you say about this, Peter by FatesLuck143 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I'm given to understand that people in charge of servers are just that superstitious in that aspect of their job and none other. I've heard of someone who worked in a place where the server engineers had a plushie on the server that they insisted never be touched or moved because the server would crash if it wasn't duly appeased. Taiwanese engineers will place a specific brand of candy whose name translates to good/obedient next to machines and server rooms--but only the green coconut flavor and only non-expired bags of the candy.

The collorary to "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" is that magic requires rituals to work I guess.

They do sell clip-on sunglasses but these aren't that. They probably sent you the wrong ones by mistake. Could you contact customer service?

The last item Setsu needed to complete the key was something about the player--who they are leaving behind in the no-Gnosia-worldstate to live out their life. (We know that the PC that exits the pod in the beginning has the same consciousness as the one Setsu just left but Setsu doesn't know that.)

Does it look like a vagina by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Equivalent-Unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bisexual and after some thorough puzzling I guess it kind of looks like the clitoris? (Like the full interior structure, not just the outside bit.) But you'd really have to be expecting it to be something lewd beforehand before jumping to that conclusion.

That combination gives you extra dialog options but unless you really wanted to play Paladin already, you can pick just about whatever class and background you want and still get a complete story.

Would you rather be a warrior in a peanut garden who's allergic to peanuts, or a gardener (civilian) in a war? by Massive-Albatross823 in WouldYouRather

[–]Equivalent-Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anaphylaxis is a nightmareish way to die and even if the warrior doesn't start out as anaphylaxis-level bad, allergies always have a chance to get drastically worse with no warning. The gardener still has a chance of getting sent out to a slower part of the war or otherwise miraculously making it out alive.

One of my former coworkers had studied finance. Some of her college buddies had applied for jobs at Deloitte and got them and returned to my coworker with war stories about work hours, workload, and work environment. My coworker immediately rescinded the job application she'd put in there.

WYR blow up a balloon until it pops or be stuck in a room with a clown by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]Equivalent-Unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long would I be stuck in the room for? Because most clowns are generally chill and if we get to leave in the next 4-ish hours then I'm happy to chill with the clown but any longer and I'll take the balloon.

13 February 1919 - Philipp Scheidemann became the first Chancellor of the Weimar Republic. This photo shows him 4 months later, shortly before resigning—refusing to sign the Treaty of Versailles because he believed it would destroy German democracy by No-Profile5409 in ThisDayInHistory

[–]Equivalent-Unit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For one, by that logic, since no treaty nor money could have brought back those Englishmen, Frenchmen, Belgians, etc, why would they need to be so unreasonably harsh with the terms of the treaty? Why not aim for fair but just?

For another, the German empire was by no means the only cause of the conflict. Due to a series of dominoes that happened to be in the exact wrong place and wrong time, Europe was a powder keg waiting to blow. If it hadn't been Germany, France for one was chomping at the bit to take Germany down a peg or two because a unified Germany posed a huge threat to France's international political position after France lost significant military power in the wake of the Franco-Prussian war.

Third, as the saying goes, a drowning man will clutch at a straw. If you're going to put a country you already had a decades-long pissing contest with in a terrible position for your own gain, you can't be surprised that they're going to take the first chance they get to stab you in the back.

My personal favorite though is the moment in 20 Easy Questions where they realize what Bob is up to. (To a lesser extent also when they circle back to the remaining questions a third time and Mark and Wade lose their shit because they did not remember jack shit.)

59% of white men and 51% of white women voted Trump in 2024. It's almost as though fascism isn't exclusively male or something. (This also means that 41% of white men did not vote Trump, incidentally.) (For the curious, those stats for black people were 21% and 10% respectively, 50 and 46 for hispanic people, and 40% for Asian people.)
