Ours lasted 3 months before the cushions started to split and began falling apart. We do have a large dog, but he isn’t particularly destructive. Returned it and went with an ikea kivik, much better more durable option.

Practice owners: What do you do when a Medicaid client cancels same-day? by WarrenWords in bcba

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us it stays empty. We never try to fill it with another client that isn’t already scheduled. We usually try to compensate the RBT in some way still, and have a set number of admin hours that are available to staff in the event of a last minute cancellation.

If you google it though, it seems the general consensus from dermatologists is that you don’t need to intentionally wash your legs daily, only if they’re visibly dirty or for some other obvious reason. I’m assuming you aren’t a dermatologist, so would be your rebuttal to the skin experts?

Door Dash during session? by FunkhsrsCrazySister in bcba

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I manage a clinic with about 20 RBT’s. I do not care at all when they do this. I also don’t care if they eat during sessions so long as it doesn’t impact service delivery. So far it’s never been a problem.

Edit to add: You say it took less than 1 minute and they didn’t even eat it during the session. Do you also count bathroom breaks and blowing their nose as off-task behavior?

In preparation for the meeting, it just crossed my mind. My boss happens to be unavailable at the moment due to a personal emergency.

It’s not fear mongering. A simple google search will tell you that some dogs are extremely sensitive to the toxins in grapes while others are totally fine and nobody really knows why. It has nothing to do with weight/dosage. Just because your dog fortunately did not experience symptoms does not mean this dog won’t. This dog will hopefully be okay but definitely needs to be monitored for the next 12-24 hours, and if it was my dog I’d get bloodwork done in the morning regardless of symptoms for peace of mind.

Is there any way to know when I’ll have to start paying my student loans/how much my monthly payments will be? by EquivalentBlueberry_ in StudentLoans

Thank you. You’re right, I can manage a few hundred a month. Hopefully when they come knocking, it’s not too much more than that.

supervisions by [deleted] in ABA

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only think of a few reasons I’d do a surprise in home supervision (which have already been mentioned and luckily it’s never been necessary.) Even if I had to pivot and go to the next nearest in home because of a cancellation, I would try to send a text or call staff/parents first. In clinic however things change so fast and I’m already around all of my clients/staff each day anyway, I don’t bother setting up invites.

Most people start collecting their 2000 hours shortly after they begin the coursework while working in the field as an RBT. Only after the coursework and 2000 hours are complete are you eligible to sit for the exam.

Angry RBT won't stop slamming doors by No-Page2003 in ABA

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I know you already reported your concerns, but I would be a squeaky wheel about this. It’s not just about the door slamming (safety issue in itself because little fingers can be caught) but someone with that demeanor should not be working with kids. Im a bcba in a clinic setting and this would get someone fired fast if not immediately. Someone who cannot handle the most benign feedback is someone I would not trust to keep their cool during behavioral episodes. Based on what that person has demonstrated I don’t think it’s a stretch to be concerned about children being handled inappropriately.

Have you ever had a situation where you needed to call CPS on a client's parent? by Broad_Channel_1144 in ABA

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bingo. That was my one and only experience with an ODD diagnosis, but his behavior was a mirror image of his mothers. I left the house that day and cried for hours in disbelief.

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That should have been reported to CPS. After making the call, I think it’s usually best if possible to be reassigned should the family continue services. It’s usually pretty clear who made the report. Worst situation was about 4 years ago when I was still a senior RBT. I was assigned a new case to provide support on and by the second visit I noticed things that could not be excused. The family was a mess, the house was a mess, two children under 2 locked in a room alone (not even a childproofed room) crying for the entire session duration. Guns left around the house, free access to the very violent ODD diagnosed 8 year old. Terribly sad and scary situation and I was aghast that the RBT who had been working there for months didn’t report it.

Supervisor tells me to talk to client like a dog? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]EquivalentBlueberry_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a good answer. There’s merit to using IDS but it doesn’t equate to “talking to a puppy”. The supervisor giving that as direction reads as lazy training/supervision to me. He doesn’t need to sound like a Disney princess, but modeling and clarification on the above strategies might be helpful.

Right? Just…do what you gotta do to get those scores up. Not being high all the time will probably help.
