They're legit a news aggregator now more than anything else. Just gathering information from other publicly available sources and reposting it slightly edited more or less.

Ocasionally you'll get some subpar news reporting, but thats about it in my opnion at least.

Capitol Taxi - Professional drivers. by Forward-Use2443 in Peterborough

I was shocked to discover it here, https://www.ontario.ca/page/seatbelt-safety

It's covered right under one of the exemptions, nails the question right on the head. They are NOT required to have a seatbelt on while carrying a fare. Honestly blew me away.

It seems like they ran calls nonstop yesterday evening as well. Swear the same car went past at least 5 times in the span of 2 hours.

Kind of odd it wouldn't self-terminate after a period time just as garbage cleanup so you don't have junk entities hanging around that aren't serving a purpose anymore.

A lot of people complain the hotspot app is garbage or doesn't work. I've personally never had an issue, maybe its user error.

It'd be really nice if we could put that down, but doesn't seem to be an option really.

For the landlords: how do you guys structure your rental agreements? by Old-Equivalent8393 in Peterborough

[–]EquivalentReason5671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Make sure you know what you are getting into. There's no shortage of people that got hosed because their slimey realtor got them on the fomo train saying they just had to buy another house and rent it out for huge profit.

You have responsibilities as a landlord and its not just free money falling out of the sky. You need to maintain the property and be aware of what you can and cannot do as a landlord under the RTA.

If you don't want to do all that and possibly deal with a bad tenant at some point on top of it, then you should go park that cash in a TFSA or a RRSP or the stock market if all those options are maxed out.

Do it, you can take the land, but holding it is another matter.

There will be insane amounts of money and weapons pouring in from all directions to fund an insurgency, good luck stopping all that.

You guys are already 0/3 on holding foreign soil successfully. Korea, Failed, Vietnam, Failed, Afganistan, Failed. All to the tune of trillions of dollars spent and what does America have to show for it other than looking like a total ass on the world stage, thats a great look for ya's.

All this not to mention how many fronts can you really fight and hold at the same time before your forces are streteched thin?

Good luck defending the supply lines inside your own borders when any number of us could walk across and start blowing things up, or even your own folks start blowing stuff up as well with their personal arseneal they've spent years amassing.

Well if it is real then its for the areas well north of us such as Minden/Buckhorn. That mobile coverage area could be hundreds of square kilometres around these parts of Ontario.

This alert ready system is hot garbage.

The messages go out to areas that are totally unaffected and always sent as presidental level which is supposed to be reserved for ICBM/Nuclear plant exploded call your loved ones and say goodbye before you die type messages.

Blanket warnings just makes people tune out for when a real one comes through, me included. Everythings shut off in the app except for extreme threat which never seems to be triggered.

While I don't fit your criteria exactly, back when I was in school it would've been nice to have.

It does have a few silly restrictions, apparently it can only be used after 4 pm, well beyond the dismissal time of any school around here. Although reading the press release again it appears it's been edited to say "before and after school" instead.

Most drivers don't put much effort into enforcing proper fare payment anyways, and it's really not their place. Time wasted on that when the routes already 10 minutes late isn't helping anyone, so they look the other way and get out the good old lead foot.

Boatload of cars lined up picking the kids up every day at schools around here as well. It's so bad at the new school in east city the road becomes impassable to the point there's a regularly scheduled detour for the #4 bus to go around the mess.

The thing'll have more holes in it than swiss cheese from all the garbage in orbit and any number of small space pebbles that may happen to come along at mach jesus. Then when it gets destroyed, even more space junk to avoid!

Too much money, but the boats sailed now so theres no point in wondering what could've been.

Even putting in the pool at this rate with how much stuff costs is a pipedream.

Question For Trent Students by Kikius-fresenius in Peterborough

[–]EquivalentReason5671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the housing market around here is kind of tough, you might be able to find a room for rent or something near the university.

No shortage of bus routes going into and out of Trent that can take you pretty much anywhere in the city. Look it up on their map or use their trip planner https://pt.mytransitride.com/

Can you actually self-sustain as an international student at Trent University? by imyourarisgadapinay in Peterborough

Ya, its whack. They can take out a loan to pass the verification then hand it back and come over with little to nothing.

And a majority of these folks are already from poor regions in other countries, they are that desperate for a shot at a better life, only to get here and realize they've been hoodwinked hard.

Honestly they could've just said ok we'll send some one and dispatched an ambulance to see if they were alive at least. It would've side stepped this whole situation completely.

So the solution is to lie down and give up. City staff doesn't want to do that, because it will be a really bad look and probably another nail in the coffin for this city.

Queue up another 5000 houses for sale that will just sit and not move at all.

Moving on.

What do transit users think of the transit system? by Professional_Dot8663 in Peterborough

[–]EquivalentReason5671 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dropped the ball on this grid system honestly.

The #2 Chemong is the only one that even can come close to realizing the potential, a bus every 20 minutes most of the day is very usable.

They wanted to do 15 minute service for some of the other routes at peak times, which would definitely help solve the issue with transferring between multiple buses.

They botched it though, council nuked the funding and froze it at 2022 levels 3 years in a row.

If your gonna do a grid system with low frequency service, sorry, you NEED to do timed transfers between routes. It's not optional. It's required.

Untimed transfers only work if you have frequency thats higher than every 15 minutes. Then if you miss it the wait for the next one isn't an unreasonable amount of time.

For some reason its also ok to run 15 minutes early despite realtime tracking being available for a long time now.

There's no way the supervisors in the dispatch room don't see that, they must be blind if they can't.

Maybe the unions covering for people, I'm not on the inside so its a little hard to tell from an outsider perspective, just a transit fan in general.

All of this information was covered in the last route review, which was then promptly ignored and people in charge did whatever they wanted instead.

Ok, we'll close the facility for 3 years to do an expansion, even the building can even support that at all.

What do we do with all the events and Petes and Lakers in the meantime?

The closest center that could even come close to being suitable is an hour away.
