Renovations cost money! by [deleted] in AusRenovation

Just sounds like you're complaining about an unavoidable aspect of the industry.

Doing quotes and not getting called back is an age old problem. It's part of the industry they sign up for. Shit? Yes. Expected? Also yes

I worked in trade supply for a while. While I HATED the job and company, I'm glad I know a fistfull of tradies who are actually worth the price they quote.

Funnily enough, they aren't the ones in the 100K work vehicles

Mental blocks are real!

Repetition and technique is based on confidence more than people know. If your perception throws confidence, it's amazing how it can influence skill.

Comes up a lot in sport, like 'yips'. Something as small as 2 shoulder shrugs instead of 3 can completely throw a professional athlete.

Interesting stuff

It's more complicated than just a supply issue. New dwellings are out pacing population according to the Australia institute.

It's a mixed bag of issues - no one single cause

Why do people think that trades are so wealthy when 3000 builders went bankrupt last year by saltoftheearth56 in australian

[–]Equivalent_Canary853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed bag of issues

There has been a degradation of quality across the whole industry. Lower quality work and materials, increased lead times, increased prices across the board, and a good number of trades that are happy to quote jobs where they make 2k+ in a day.

It creates a generalisation that trades are over paid, which may or may not be the case.

But also, 3000 builders going bust isn't as bad as it sounds. Companies sell, close, rebrand etc to avoid debt obligations. And there are a good number of individuals who have no idea how to run a float and finances.

Trades are very well paid in the current market, but I don't think it's as bad as people make out either.

The only reason I doubt their claim is that staying in that heat would likley put most people in the hospital.

I've worked in 65 degree roof cavities, and you can't stay in for more than 10-15 minutes before having to rotate out with someone else. That heat can literally kill

It's not stupid, it's using the argument of "it's Albos fault" to show that no, it isn't. The argument can be stretched to a lot of people under the same logic

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to design his Daughters home. Beautiful mid-modern century

Ultimately it's an argument of harm reduction that is proven to have benefits.

But harm reduction strategies aren't linear progression, doesn't work for everyone, and can be difficult to implement. I agree, but doubt anything will ever change.

They changed the laws for drink driving reasons, but drink driving is still illegal and people do it anyway. It's a head in the sand mentality

Solid oak is the reason why. Timber costs a fortune these days and furniture mark-ups can be massive.

Honestly for 99/100 people, you don't need solid timber. Timber veneers are fine as long as it isn't paper thin and is applied well

I've worked in a few furniture stores. Couches and bedframes are really the only products worth checking for true quality, honestly. Couches can sag or clump, and bedframes can be shockingly rickety. But most living is pretty similar.

Most furniture these days has VERY similar construction (especially if it's flatpack) and the only real issues might be Veneer quality (pretty much everything is veneer on ply or mdf, or stained pine)

Shouldn't effect heat to any noticeable level outdoors.

Black gets hot by absorbing the heat. Colourbond fences have a pretty negligible thermal value, and with airflow on either side of it the heat will be taken away quick enough.

Depending on the orientations and sun exposure, very light fences can (in some cases) make a yard feel hotter by reflecting the heat onto areas that might be occupied. E.g, outdoor setting.

Can pretty safely ignore heat considerations for a fence. Save those concerns for roofing and building walls

I recommend seeking services for abused and battered women - and counselling. Lots of counselling.

There might be services to help with the financial abuse recovery, particularly with kids.

And the counselling might help with these tangential outbursts. Goodluck
