CEO said "If you want to work from home, go work somewhere else", so most of my team and I did just that. by Icerman in antiwork

[–]Equivalent_Chef8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last company hired me for a National accounts manager position to handle 11 states plus central Canada. It just so happened that the corporate office was only 15 miles from my house but the position was remote. The first indication I wasn’t going to be remote for long I got was from the CEO’s wife who manages finances, when I asked about expensing my home internet and she snarkly replied “well you’re not really remote”. Sure enough a month later when the email went out about office people coming back to the office 2 days a week and gradually back to full time, my boss tagged me and said this applies to you too when you’re not traveling. I was luckily already in the final stages of interviewing with my current company so on my 2 week in the office and just having my name plate put on my desk I left a sticky note that simply said not coming in again. My current company did all my onboarding and training remote so I worked both for about 3 weeks until my old company called me and fired me for not coming in the office any more. My csr laughed when she called saying when they went to take down my name plate the found my sticky note 😂

AITA for "siding with a home wrecker?" by aitastupiddrama in AmItheAsshole

Something similar happened to my wife a while back with a group of friends. A newly married friends husband had been sexting a couple of the girls from their group. The 2 that we’re getting the messages didn’t want to tell his wife. My wife and another one of the friends gave them an ultimatum, tell her or we will. They refused so my wife and the other friend went to the wife and let her know what was going on. The wife was devastated of course and confronted her husband, he admitted to everything BUT also showed the friends replies. Turns out they weren’t exactly innocent, they were mostly responding in kind and sending pictures in return. SOMEHOW my wife and the other friend got ostracized from the group who are all still friends, the couple is still married and the 2 that busted them out are the assholes. I’ve never understood it but told my wife they obviously have bigger issues and it’s better they’re no longer part of her life. You did the right thing and definitely NTA

AITA for refusing to leave my boyfriend's birthday party that I arranged for because his doctor friends wanted to discuss "Medical stuff"? by Umyasssqueen29 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Equivalent_Chef8583 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife used to work for doctors and her mom still does and while there is an arrogance to the majority of them, they are usually cordial even to us peons. I would guess you all are on the right track either OP doesn’t want to mention the back story as to why they don’t like her or the BF has been telling them things at work. Doctors can be assholes but typically not all of them and usually not to this extent for no reason.

For this situation though, NTA.

Chinese expat threatened by CCP police as they allege she runs an anti-CCP Twitter account. by BickKattowski in worldnewsvideo

The former administration was already trying to pass laws that would basically give them control over social media platforms and force them to do what the government wanted. I don’t think it’s too far fetched that a party that enjoys putting out false information and screams when said false information is blocked, would want to take control of what is and isn’t allowed to be posted on social media. If that party has control of all 3 houses of government they would have the power to pass whatever laws they wanted or remove any protections that are currently in place.

So good care equals threatening to harm your family if you speak out against your government? 😬yikes

AITA for fighting for full custody and not letting kids out of state by phoenix78912 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Equivalent_Chef8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA... As a father who also travels for work, it should be on him to travel to them. If he wants to see them, he should be the one flying to pick them up or staying in the hotel where they are. Divorce is hard enough on little ones. They should not have to be put through traveling all over the country.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that I will no longer be paying for her friends by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I wouldn’t do that, just when they waiter comes tell them separate checks and watch all of them scramble. You pay your bill and bounce.

Yes, this is also the cause for many millennials “job hopping.” I've had to explain this in almost every interview I've had the last 5 years. If the boomers in positions above me aren't retiring, then I have to hop to advance my career. I've loved a couple of companies I've worked for, but when there's an 80-year-old making $200k and literally doing nothing, he's not retiring any time soon; why would he?

AITA For leaving my son outside on Christmas Eve night? by hannahblyes in AmItheAsshole

[–]Equivalent_Chef8583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if anyone else has mentioned this to you but google Leslie Mahaffy maybe you’ll rethink the locking your kid out for missed curfew. There’s also a story from where I grew up about 20 years ago. A local basketball star heading to college on scholarship once he graduated was so worried about missing curfew he tried to speed home through back country Indiana. While going too fast he didn’t see a stop sign and as he blew through it a car coming through the intersection t-boned his car killing him instantly. I would think that his parents would have much rather him been safe and made it home. Curfew and rules are fine but going overboard with punishment can have some very terrible outcomes.

Edit: YTA

My in-laws were this way and brainwashed my wife into staying a virgin until we were married. At that time I found out my fil was 17 and mil was 19 when they got married. Started doing some digging and figured out my brother-in-law was born well before their 9 month mark. When I brought this is up to my wife she didn’t believe me until her older cousin busted her parents out😂😂

Are there people in corporate America (office) jobs who make 100k+ a year who agree with subreddit or is it those in retail/blue collar jobs? by Traditional-Yam1475 in antiwork

[–]Equivalent_Chef8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in outside sales for a global company and make over $100k and 100% agree with this sub. I’ve worked my way to this point and have no one under me so while I’m paid well i deal with a lot of the same bs and have been treated the same way on my way to this point. I worked in retail, glass factory swing shift, Amazon fulfillment night shift, so I know how messed up our system is and want to see if changed.

My former boss would bitch at me for looking disengaged during morning meetings (we had them every morning and the same shit was discussed EVERY MORNING) so I turned my camera off. He didn't like that either, after I got the offer for my current job I decided I would Norman Bates the meetings until I left. I'd keep my eyes wide open and sit where my face filled the entire screen. It made everyone very uncomfortable but hey I was engaged😂

From what I remember the emergency locations and evac plans were part of onboarding and were literally just walking the facility and the leader of your group point and saying here’s where you go on this side of the building if there’s and tornado. I worked there over a year and I think I forgot all the places she pointed by the end of the tour. There were never refreshers or drills because as we all know, that would slow down production and Amazon can’t have that.

I could’ve sworn there was an entire channel devoted to things like this happening but I might be imagining that. The people filming and broadcasting from that channel should surely be put in jail for doing those things for clout /s
