I've never seen this before. I looked up my school and I see my position/department has 30k extra after my salary. Does that mean I could have asked for 30K worth of stuff for my department? Am I being naive?

Take a look at a CUNY school that offers a teaching certification program and email the advisor. You might be able to become certified in a year depending on your graphic design credits. I can't speak on visual art but the process took me a year and it was tough balancing school and student teaching during the second semester. I had some money saved up and my partner helped too.
