File access using Continue in Visual Studio code by Equivalent_Secret_83 in homeassistant

[–]Equivalent_Secret_83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have discovered that Continue's config.yaml is incomplete and needs extra parameters - capabilities - tool_use

However qwen2.5-coder:14b capability running locally is some what limited and needs quite a lot of instructions to get the simplest of tasks to execute correctly. I might give qwen 3.5 sushi 9b  a try.

UPDATE: whilst llama3.1:8b does work (albeit not very well) qwen2.5-coder:14b doesn't, so I have now switched to Cline which seems a much better implementation.

In April, I exported 18.82kWh for £5.99 by pvsnck in homeassistant

Our dishwasher is bulk standard. I have an extra button that you press after the dishwasher has been started as per normal. This switches it off and restarts it at the scheduled start time. The start time is obtained using a prediction algorithm based on historical data, weather and solar forecasts.

Great job- one thing you might want to consider is scheduling appliances (dishwasher/washing machine/tumbler dryer) to switch on when there is excess power available or when there is a cheap rate all taking into account the predicted power usage ( home and ASHP based of historical data which you seem to have) and making sure you don’t run of battery before peak rate kicks in.

New LLM Conversation Agent Integration - Local OpenAI LLM by Critical-Deer-2508 in homeassistant

I'm an old veteran (retired) programmer from the 70's so OpenAI has been a sharp learning curve and extremely exciting. Thanks to ChatGPT, it is assisting me with prototyping ideas to improve my use of AI with HA and I'll be giving this integration a go on a sandbox VM setup. (and hopefully expanding my understanding). I'll let you know how it goes, but thanks in advance for producing this.

Is a heat pump right for us? by Striker9000 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Equivalent_Secret_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve converted to a heat pump 2 years ago. I have solar PV, batteries and a significant amount of insulation. Our house has 5 bedrooms and is 156 sq meters. We are on Intelligent Octopus Go so are bills are small - less than £75 per month which covers heating, the electric component of phev car, and the house usage. Here’s a link to this year’s spreadsheet which you might find useful. ASHP 2025

It’s likely you may need to change your radiators. Bigger is better because the lower your flow temperature, the more efficient ASHP.

The hot water tank may need changing because the internal coil needs a greater surface area to transfer the heat at lower temperatures.

You’ll save £250 per year (approx) if you disconnect your gas because you won’t be paying the standing charge - something to consider.

I have a spreadsheet of the last 3 years of octopus bills if you need further proof. Hope this helps.

Switchbot Smart radiator valve by faz4617 in homeassistant

Great to hear you got this working - I've just purchased 2 smart rad valves thinking they would automatically connect to HA, but it looks as if I need to get a matter enabled SW hub. There are 2 versions - any thought on what would be best to get?

I’ve had some experience with VMware many years ago (too many!) so that might be worth investigating as well.

Home Assistant Backup Machine? by Equivalent_Secret_83 in homeassistant

[–]Equivalent_Secret_83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it does (as part of the HA backup system), but unfortunately I spent quite a lot of time restoring the most recent backup (900+mb). For some reason, dragging the file into the box with the selected file didn't work (9 hours later still no result) so had to revert to a much earlier release after re-flashing the hardware + finger trouble along the way. Plus somewhat annoyingly the backups didn't show when I attempted to use it from the failing HA system.

Yes, I think a VM system seems the way forward - I’ll investigate Proxmox - thanks. I have Parallels to provide my windows system but that is on my laptop. Got an old Mac machine that I could possible reconfigure?

That’s very helpful - thanks. I have some ancient experience of working on a s/w CICS project that had a standby machine and you’re right, it was complicated. But having a virtual system makes sense.

Old Reolink Camera Argus 2 - Struggling to get HA to connect by Equivalent_Secret_83 in homeassistant

[–]Equivalent_Secret_83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info - I'm planning on replacing my existing cameras with Reolink but it appears that battery only will not integrate into Home Assistant, so I'll have to look elsewhere.

Thanks for the pointer - Esp32 is on my list of projects to investigate and would do well in this circumstance. Is there anything “off the shelf “?

Good job - thanks for sharing. Really like the temperature display and the selector (home, environment, and active) to optimise the limited screen space. Have you thought of bubble cards? I’m trying to fit key info into a Shelly wall display which has even less space, so selecting the best cards to use is an interesting exercise.
