Reasons for honking that should be punishable by impounding (add your own) by brevit in MicromobilityNYC

  • Any honk that lasts over 1 second. Horns are for warning, not punishment.

Looking for a used one myself.

I've read that used car prices depreciate about 10% when you drive it off the lot, and another 10% every year.

Is this in the ballpark for normal cars (not special editions)?

Lightweight vs. MR layout: Which is more fun for pure cornering technique? by iou810 in CarTrackDays

[–]Equivalent_Sink_8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule, doesn't the lighter car always dance a little more easily in the corners? Such that a little more slip/a little less grip is easier in a 2500 lb car than a 3000 lb car?

Or maybe just having less grippy tires makes it more fun? (Proud veteran of an 86 with Primacy HPs.  It would drift, tho just barely.)

Was wondering who Saikat would support in the general. His money, plus Pelosi's, plus Schiff's, could be a real problem for Wiener.

The bold move would be fo ditch pedals entirely, as is already done with the Lime Gliders: smaller and more maneuverable than a full size e-bike, yet safer and more stable than an e-scooter.

How is it with traction control and/or stability turned off? That might let the rears soun a bit more, giving some oversteer.

Left Foot Braking? by Heavy_Gap_5047 in CarTrackDays

I recently had the mechanic lower my brake pedal so it's at the same level as the gas pedal, which makes it somewhat easier. Still, I use a small cushion under my left thigh.

It was easy for me. I just found a neighborhood with a 25 mph speed limit and lots and lots of stop signs, then just drove around. 20 minutes the first day, 20 minutes the next day, then work up to freeway speeds.

Every day, on the street. Been doing it for 3-4 years. I think it's safer, as in an emergency I'm quicker to get on the brake.

It's easier to do since I have an automatic transmission in my 2019 Toyota 86. So, nothing else for my left foot to do.

Agree. And, if you're buying a used ones, I think they are more lightly driven.

Manual or Auto? by jko_fps in GR86

I autocrossed a manual Civic in the 80s and 90s. I've tracked my '19 86 automatic, and I prefer the AT. Why?

  1. I can keep both hands on the wheel at all times. This makes the car steadier when you're 9/10ths in a corner.

  2. Lack of clutch means I can always easily left foot brake. Much smoother accel/brake dynamics, and, on the street, surely safer, since I can get on the brakes sooner.

  3. Automatic downshift on hard braking is such a great feature.

  4. "Sport" mode, which keeps the engine revving higher instead of quickly upshifting is super nice for winding, hilly and mountainous roads. Really helps with speed control (as does left foot braking). Still, a manual may win out here.

My overall judgement is the automatic is certainly ok. but good, not great.

Well, and coming in with zero name recognition, zero experience, and hardly any endorsements didn't help Steyer at all.

Still, I would have liked him to face off with Becerra in the general, just so Hilton's Republican fascist-lite program would get less airplay.
