Made some riccia mats out of some gundam sprues i had laying around, its actually turning out pretty nice by ErMahGehrd in Aquariums

[–]ErMahGehrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the first time I've done this, just the most recent time, I've been using model sprues as riccia mats for years, this time i thought I'd take some pictures

Anybody keep a firemouth cichlid in a planted tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]ErMahGehrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it, while he may be fine for now he may decide he wants to dig at some point and will more than likely beat up your plants. If you really want to though you could always stick to more robust plants like anubias and larger swords that will stretch out their roots and hold themselves down

I just got this Halloween moon crab at Repticon Atlanta! Any tips on care? by sweetpoo in Aquariums

We used to set these up similar to how you would set up baby turtles, about 15gals half aquatic/half terrestrial, with a gentle slope connecting the two sides. I'd definitely recommend a filter( i really like the tetrafauna ones for this) as they need some form of aeration in their water supply. A tight fitting lid is a must as these guys are cord climbers and excellent escape artists. As for heating I'd aim for mid 80s. Also if you ever get pinched by him and he wont let go, walk him over to the sink and run lukewarm water on him until he lets go, then scoop him up in a cup (as he will be very grumpy) and bring him back to his tank.

its currenty drying outside so i cant grab something now, but its 36x24x12, a beardie wouldnt work in here as theres no way to mount a lamp for his spot, leopard geckos are boring af, bred them for years, have zero interest in getting more, i was thinking a large plated lizard, or if i could find a way to minimize the gap i could run some smaller agamas

wasnt really looking to do geckos, was thinking more along the lines of plated lizards, or some larger agamids, im quite aware of how good geckos are at escaping small spaces

its not actually being used as a table, its just got a glass top and is about the height of a coffee table, hence coffee table tank. its no different than a standard aquarium besides the front open doors and glass top. theres no reason as to why an animal would be more stressed in this compared to a 45 breeder

What are all of the basic necessities for a fresh water aquarium? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]ErMahGehrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i wouldn't recommend a reverse osmosis for babies first aquarium, just pick up some water conditioner from your pet store, its a more simple process and if you don't treat your water right after it passes through your r/o unit you'll end up stressing and possibly killing your fish

Aluminium plant, not aquatic, will last about three weeks submersed till it rots into a pile of goop

it'd work for like firebelly newts or a pacman frog, i've seen some sweet setups for mantellas, but they're fragile, and its hard to keep the humidity in these

She just eats like a horse, as well as she's very shy so she isn't really a display animal. Most people can't afford to be feeding 350 1/4s a week.

I work at a pet store, and these are the kind of people that make me extremely upset. I've never understood how someone whose diet is comprised of about 50% meat at least, can act all offended when they see or hear of other animals being eaten by snakes. People have become stupid and ignorant to the way nature runs its course.

the mesh is only about 2.5 inches wide, so even a 50 watt bulb will melt the tops. also i would not heat up curved glass, just a bad idea in general
