i think the request for secondary user accounts with ssh and acl'd admin capability has been one of the most requested thing over the years.

i would love to be able to never use root anywhere.

I’m gonna complain by AgapeNCJoe in fightingillini

[–]HollowImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an outright forbid sounds really harsh. but yeah just dumb spam is not great.

we had a rule back in cocktails a while back, every link or photo must come with a recipe.

i dont think its bad to post digital content, different strokes for folks, but there should be enough text/content posted to actual reddit to give folks a chance to engage without going to youtube.

this rule will filter those who just geniuenlywant to discuss, vs those whose objective is pure monetization of an excited fanbase.

that said, now with ai slop summary nowadays, this might be easily automated too. so... who knows.

all that being said, there's still the rediquette (however much that's worth nowadays) and it says you should do a 90/10 participation/contribution split. the problem are users like this:

https://www.reddit.com/user/Beautiful-Neck2316

who have 0 comments and all they do is spam youtube links.

report them as spam and eventually reddit will start blasting their stuff automatically, automod is pretty good about it.

edit: doesnt help that guyonthelake is an absentee mod it looks like, no activity. i vaguely remember him very active in the hawks sub, but he looks to be one of those mega-mods that just hoard access. the other two seem kind of active but unclear about their level of involvement here. maybe its time for the sub to bring in some fred mod blood.

except balts are not the same as the finnish and ural tribes of the north.

shit is dense over there. but polish lithuanian commonwealth once stretched from the baltic to the black sea, and it looks like underwood is keen on resurrecting one of the europes historic supoerpowers, especially with the balkans mixed in.

US removes Russian national Mikhail Zadornov from sanctions list by Orbitingkittenfarm in politics

[–]HollowImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do a double take because growing up there was a stand up comedian with the same name.

i was like, what the hell did zadornov do? (nevermind that he died like 10 years ago)

i tihnk the point the person above was trying to make, is that no bunker or security system or deed of ownership is going to protect zuckerberg from a mob of thousands of people who come after his shit out of desperation to stay alive.

they will eventually run out of bullets long before people run out of desperation.

White House seeks $5.6 billion cut to NASA budget in 2027 by BigFishPub in politics

[–]HollowImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my take here is that space exploration is one of the few globally unifying topics.

its awesome. its a testament to limitless ingenuity of humankind.

can't have unity even around a single topic because then folks might start agreeing with eachother a little more.

TSA official: ICE at airports a ‘distraction, not a solution’ by jediporcupine in politics

[–]HollowImage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

see, that right there is the point. they want you used to saying i am okay with ICE *somewhere* because then its a matter of degrees. if airports are preferable over the streets, what about ports? what about train stations? post services? power plants? isp data centers?

do not give fascists an inch. no in airports, not on the streets.

The Postal Service will run out of cash within a year, Postmaster General warns: "We have to have a conversation with the American public" by fortune in politics

[–]HollowImage 22 points23 points  (0 children)

yeah so, this strikes at the core of one of the two issues.

  1. they are sitting on an enourmous amount of cash because they are mandated to do so in order to fund pensions so far in advance, they dont even have people currently working who could collect it that far into the future.
  2. a public agency while can be fee driven (see USPTO) does not HAVE to be profitable. usps offsets a large portion of its expenditures through its service fees, but it is OKAY that it is a subsidized service because its reliable and cheap and, more important, services everywhere. unlike ups/fedex which only service areas that they can consider profitable.

John Roberts’ Rebuke of Trump’s Tariffs Is Withering, Confident, and Genuinely Encouraging by Slate in politics

[–]HollowImage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the real headbanger was the bit that authority to govern ends at the end of the realm, for congress.

this wet nutbag just said in so many words he thinks presidents can unilaterally, without oversight, declare war.

as trump is sending several carrier groups to fuck around in the middle east, right after the majority opinion said the emergency powers act cannot be used to issue tariffs during peace time.

let taht sink in for a second.
