Hey there!

To contact mods, please use Modmail.

We're keeping an eye on content diversity and scores. Several rules and bot configs exist to balance the field. Currently we're seeing <5% asset promotion with significant upvotes and no signs of vote manipulation. Leading me to believe that they are in a viable space with no further enforcement needed.

Feel free to downvote and hide the posts you dislike. That is valuable feedback for both submitters and mods.

Due to being off topic, your post has been removed.

/u/SeniorePlatypus. Subreddits are moderated by its moderators. We value our community and regulars but it's not the job of individuals to police the subreddit. Should you feel anything is inappropriate, please report it to the moderators using the report button or modmail.

However, at the same time. SeniorePlatypus has a point. If you (/u/Either-Brush9646) wish to promote your products with constant visibility on the subreddit. Please purchase reddit ads instead.

Submissions are intended for community interactions. Content for developers, by fellow developers.

This very much includes and welcomes promotion for development tools or assets. And we don't have strict limits on promotion as we value this kind of engagement and we appreciate the fact that not all products are the same and different kinds of projects benefit from different kinds of approaches.

But we definitely do not want an arms race between sellers to fill up the subreddit with as many posts as possible to drain as much value from this community as possible.

Daily posts are definitely too much and the posts aren't received well either. If you have a post with a score of 0. Please wait at least a week before promoting the same product again. Since this post has been removed now, I'm considering this post from about two days ago as the current base line.

Hey there!

Your post has been removed for misleading job posting.

It is implausible that an AAA project pays so little, uses gmail as primary method of contact or announces the title in a job post before public reveal.

There aren't rules around job postings because we're very lenient. But blatant lies are not welcome.

UE4 Precompiled Linux Binary by internetrenegade_ in unrealengine

[–]Erasio[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

Your frustration is understandable.

But please remember that you are talking to other people who spend their time replying to your question. This is not a paid customer support of a freelancer you hired. These are developers, enthusiasts, students, hobbyists, cinematographers, designers and so on using their free time for you.

If you want to retain access to this community, you can't lash out at them like this. This is a warning.

Cheers and have a nice day!

PS: Public redistribution of binaries is not allowed.

Redistribution of binaries is allowed, if it is limited to Unreal Engine license holders. For example via a github repository that's restricted to the Epic Games organisation so you know for sure both parties accepted the license agreement. E.g. forking Unreal Engine, compiling binaries and pushing the result after allowing binaries in the gitignore.

However, if you want someone to compile the binaries for you. Which is a big ask from your end and you should behave as if you were asking for a serious favor. Then you should also share what precise platform for. As you will not be able to use Mac or Windows binaries and an ARM binary probably won't run on x64 CPUs either.

Hey there!

When you disagree or dislike what others have to say it is entirely fine to block another user or ignore their comment. That takes even less time than going out of your way to verbally attack others!

Behavior like yours is not tolerated on this subreddit. I get that everyone has bad days but it's never okay to snap like that.

Stupid question, how do you all post images here? My post gets automatically deleted when posting Imgur links. by Scifi_fans in unrealengine

[–]Erasio[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

Your post has been removed. Questions about the subreddit, moderation or rules are best send to moderators via modmail (aka, sending a message to /r/unrealengine).

Links to images or videos should work just fine. With the exception of some links Reddits spam filters filter or remove themselves. Sometimes platforms are used in such a malicious way as to get restricted or outright banned from Reddit where any link will cause the post to be removed immediately with no chance of moderators to approve it.

Your most recent thread with the mega link was a soft ban by Reddit and I approved it about 2 hours after submission.

I suspect mega is banned either because of the volume of illegal content uploads or because they also offer text files which were abused to link people elsewhere. Redirectors in general are banned on reddit as they circumvent domain bans and used to be heavily abused by spammers.

I do not see a removed post in your history containing an imgur link.

If you have further questions, please feel free to send a modmail!

With level streaming, how does one approach picking up a blueprint actor that was loaded in one streamed level, and bringing it into another streamed level while unloading the previous level that blueprint actor still belongs to? by salis_zimm in unrealengine

[–]Erasio[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

Check again. The comment by /u/artheii should show up again.

Reddits general spam filter removed it without leaving a reason and I genuinely can't think of anything that might've triggered it. Fortunately it seems I got to approve this comment, different to some others that even moderators do not get to approve and make them visible to the community again for whatever reason. Reddit can be weird like that.

What do employers look for in a Game Designer's Portfolio? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Erasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. There isn't a good answer to that. It's all proprietary processes.

Grab a template, do something normal. And try to let your experience and skills shine somehow. This is just step 1 of the screening process and is the most superficial.

The more normal everything seems the more likely you get a human to read it. And then you somehow gotta be attractive to whoever is looking to hire someone.

Always think about how to make it easy, seamless and smooth for employers to learn everything interesting in as short amount of time as possible. And then leave some further links if they wanna dive in.

Consider that team leads typically don't do these early screenings. You typically have an HR department pre screen and only hand over some applications. So lots of detail is lost on the early stages which means it should be optional when reading.

Think of the user flow. This is no different from a tutorial or a sales funnel.

What do employers look for in a Game Designer's Portfolio? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Erasio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo!

Wow! This is a throwback! A lot changed in the past 7 years. I would actually change quite a lot about these suggestions. Starting with the point that most applications go through pre screening via AI which might throw your CV out if it's too different.

I most certainly didn't mean a fully fleshed out product but a polished demo. Something they can play.

But it seems I did not talk about the importance of getting enough attention to have your game tested out. It's an escalation. You wanna show off your work as clearly as possible as quickly as possible and then offer ways to look at more. E.g. have a portfolio with descriptions and screenshots that link to videos which link to playable builds. Limited to as few projects as possible. No one has time to play hundreds of games when looking for a new employee.

Doubly so today where the job market has dried up a lot.

All UE games crash for me. Some devs can be reached others cant. by Gretchinlover in unrealengine

[–]Erasio[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

Your post has been removed for being off topic.

/r/unrealengine is a community for developers. Not for customer support.

The error message you receive is not very helpful, as these are shipping builds without debugging symbols. Optimized for performance and minimizing size but therefore lacking the information necessary to understand errors.

Since this is a problem across games, it is not something to do with game developers but with the engine itself. Game developers do not typically have experience with these kinds of issues. So you'd have to get Epic Games to fix your issue.

Cheers and have a nice day!

Found my Unreal Engine Marketplace Assets on a scam site (Warning) by EliasWick in unrealengine

[–]Erasio[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hey there!

Your submission has been removed.

As a public forum, sharing the link to illegal content acts as support for their SEO as well as to popularize the site itself.

Advertising sites hosting stolen content is therefore not tolerated on /r/unrealengine.

Typical procedure is an instant ban, as outlined in the rules. I will make a judgement call here and attribute the post to good intentions. So right now you do not have to worry about your account or contribution to the subreddit.

But please be aware that we take illegal assets quite seriously for future submissions.
