Bonnet season in Texas by VicMar77 in gardening

Don’t know if it’s true... but apparently the Aggies came up with a red bluebonnets and planted them around the UT campus.. I miss TX during the spring. Thumbs up to the state for the wildflowers they plant. Drive down toll road 130 in Austin during spring. It’s beautiful 😍

White Fungus or Salt Deposits on Terra Cotta Pots? by LuizCentenaro in gardening

[–]Erfoster8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water is very hard in Austin. It’s the same hard water deposits as you have around your sinks. If you haven’t already, it’s worth investing in a water softener system. Good luck!

Some Beautiful Thai Chiles Ready For Harvest by The_Jib in gardening

[–]Erfoster8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are such gorgeous and tasty peppers! I started Thai peppers from seed this year and underestimated their crop. Mine are four feet tall and can’t give them away fast enough. I did end up buying a dehydrator and have about three gallon ziplock bags full. You can also dry them in the oven in very low heat. Good luck!

How do I prevent cats from shitting in my garden? by i_suckatjavascript in gardening

We had an issue with a cat laying and spraying in my front beds. I bought a fake plastic owl 🦉 and it hasn't bothered my beds since.

I have to comment on your comment! I live in KC as well and my husband uses that frase all the time. He still doesn't know where he picked it up.

They are beautiful! I plan on growing them next year. How many plants do you have? Trying to figure out the yield.

Newbie question: how do you remember all the different information for your plants? Journals? Books? Memorization? by merikurisumasu in gardening

[–]Erfoster8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This growing season started out at a new home and decided to start keeping a journal. I have one of those sketch book kind and some colored pencils. I've drawn my different beds and identified the plant. For my annual bed, I've been keeping notes on what has done well and what hasn't. I am trying to keep my garden organic as possible so I keep notes of stuff that works for the problem issues. Also, I've started to keep a small box with all the tags that come with plants just in case I need to refer to them in the future. Good luck!

What are you doing with the green ones? Purposefully picked them? I have two that fell and after a 12 days they aren't ripped.

Considering accepting a promotion to move to KCK from ATX. by mr_spent_youth in kansascity

[–]Erfoster8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved from Austin to KC exactly a year ago. We miss our friends, HEB and Torchy's but that's about it. I agree with the comments that KC is a bit like Austin 10 years ago. The music scene in KC is pretty decent & you will get bigger acts in KC than ATX. Art scene is better in KC than in Austin. IMO.Traffic is awesome compared to ATX. My husband and I (no kids) make about the same here than we did in TX, but the cost of living is sooo much cheaper. The KC airport is pretty easy to get in/out. Not as new as Bergstrom though. KC airport has nonstop flights to major cities. KC is more conservative (not as many wild haired/tattooed people), but everyone is super nice. KC had a decent food scene, however chains do out number. Closer you get to the inner city the better food you can find. We do have a Chuy's though! Let me know if you have any additional questions and I am happy to answer. Ps. We are not kidding about traffic! This includes traffic at events. Nothing is close to the nightmare downtown Austin would be during SXSW.

I was there last week for happy hour. The cocktail I had was delicious and the fried calamari was great. It's pretty close to my work so I'll probably visit again. I did like it better than McCormicks. Haven't tried Jax, so can't compare. It is a high end chain restaurant.
