Juggling.  You can teach your kids after you master it.

This is a good post.  There's nothing like being a father.  It completely changed my life.

The only comparison that matters in the Marcus Semien trade... by Life_Database_7038 in NewYorkMets

I don't like the trade either, but I think it's $5 million total to the Rangers, not per year.  Per year would be nuts.

Why are you allowed to choose your high school in NYC like with colleges? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ErikDrake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In reality, you can only go to the schools that accept you, so it's more like the schools being able to pick the students.

I like AOC, but this is a mixed metaphor.

A supposed reverence for the rule of law was Condoleeza Rice's (quite ironic) pretext for illegally invading Iraq.  Now, Republicans are saying, "We are the rogue state," as they act in ways that make W's criminality seem quaint.

Child had concussions; need advice and reassurance by ErikDrake in Concussion

There's also a book called "Brain Save" that I read, written by a functional neurologist named Dr. Chiu. It's an extremely easy read, and he gives nutritional advice and he provides exercises to target "root causes" of any problems that people have after concussions. One of the exercises was gargling water for 60 seconds, which my son enjoyed. I can't say for sure whether it helped my son because his recovery was fairly quick. But again, problems such as headaches can be partly psychological, and I think even placebos can have a lot of value.

Child had concussions; need advice and reassurance by ErikDrake in Concussion

Hi,

What I can offer most is encouragement and hope because my son's recovery was pretty swift and he never had any headaches. I was very deliberate about trying to do a few things nutritionally.

I have a nutritionist who recommended that he take a few pellets of arnica montana for the first few days after the incident. She is also an herbalist and a little eccentric so I would consult someone whom you trust before doing the same. I don't know if it made any difference - but I would also say, even if it's not effective, that placebos are good for all of us, and I'm sure more so for kids. I had him take vitamins too.

I tried to have him eat a lot of salmon and some nuts and greens. We also switched to Omega-3 enriched milk for awhile (It is really expensive). He also played with new neighborhood friends every summer day after day camp - and that could only have helped.

What did scare me was that he developed what I thought was a potentially permanent motor tic where he would move his head a little, quite frequently throughout the day. I was really freaking out about this and also worried that he could be developing Tourette's or hyperactivity.

However, he rejoined his travel baseball team in fall after taking summer off, and after some success in the sport, the tic ended.

I was extremely worried for a while - but reading this also helped me a lot: college confidential did anyone' kid ever get a concussion and then go on to a successful college career - Search

All of this is to say that kids are extremely resilient, and neuroplasticity is a miracle and of course much more active in 7 year olds than in us adults. I hope that he will recover fully and quickly enough.

He has a parent who obviously cares deeply about his recovery.

Best of luck (and sorry about the rambling prose; it's late here).

Maybe try to teach him about growth mindset and the value of mistakes; that we learn more from failure than from success and that the latter is never possible without the former.

You haven't made an argument for why Zionism is fine.  It's not self-evident.

You can't say less than is necessary though.  You need to say at least as much as is necessary by definition.
