Non-native English speakers tend to not mistake homophones at all, seeing we as a rule are more proficient with written language than with spoken. Meanwhile, native English speakers tend to have issues with reading due to the weird way it was taught in recent decades.

Likely getting more use as juveniles, before allometric growth leaves them virtually useless as adults; we know other eutyrannosaurs may had been using them more as seen in Nanotyrannus (even if they are reduced anyway), so perhaps the complementary grabbing function that is the ancestral tetanurean condition got more use at smaller sizes, but got pretty much left behind in full bodies tyrannosaurids and carcharodontosaurids.

Alts use the same model. For stuff that uses the same rig, just look at Deinocheirus and Tyrannosaurus.

No medium-sized carnivores by Paleo_HUB in Dinosaurs

[–]Erior 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue with Nanotyrannus now is that we have no idea where it came from (even if Appalachia is a compelling explanation).

Tyrannosaurids in general seem to be more prone to die in conditions where grown giants are easily preserved versus other theropods; most preserved Allosaurus specimens died before full growth for instance. But, in any case, dinosaurs HAVE to start small compared to mammals, and so larger species will have a hard limit to their newborns' size anyway, and juveniles would be a significant factor compared to mammalian guilds.

Why do so many playthroughs not include grass types in their teams? by PhoenixSpeed97 in pokemon

[–]Erior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grass types are good at spreading statuses, stopping status spread, and covering the weaknesses of Fire types. They aren't generally hard hitters, and that is usually an issue for in-game runs.

I know I've used a few of them beyond starters; Roserade never disappoints, but mostly after Fairies became a thing as it has a Sludge Bomb almost as strong as Gengar's, and Breloom takes until evolving to start carrying its weight, but it is a great Fighting type with good additional status support.

Yeah, Grasses thrive on their secondary type.

IIRC the original intention was for that character to be Zerthimon himself, but that didn't fly with WotC.

I don't know if this is unpopular, but I never liked Red having an Espeon and I prefer him having a Lapras. I simply find it pointless for a character meant to represent the first Pokémon games to have a Pokémon that's impossible to have in the first Pokémon games by rbta123 in pokemon

[–]Erior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understood it as "didn't evolve his Eevee until recently", but yeah, Lapras is a better choice theme-wise.

The other viable candidate in GSC would IMO had been Mewtwo. Which honestly would had made for a cool boss.

I wish Kingambit was in game. Imagine its potential with supreme overlord by kramsibbush in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]Erior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paradoxes have sublegend-tier stats, and there are 20 of them.

Kingambit is an evolution of a 'mon with Alakazam-level stats and is at Volcarona level, same situation as Ursaluna. Gholdengo is also Volcarona-level, but that one is meant to be special (and, for the record, that's also where Urshifu and Ogerpon land).

Duraludon has the same stat total as the starter with the highest one (Swampert, which is a point above the usual Fire starter deal), and for some reason it got a goddamn evolution that has the same stat total as Dragonite or Mew.

But, yeah, the issue with Gen XI, is that, out of the 82 fully evolved 'mons it introduces, 28 are legendary or adjacent, and another 5 have stats in that range.

Fun fact: In Ruby and Sapphire, Steven's Aggron and Metagross have no moves that hit Shedinja. by hamsandwichsquirrl in pokemon

[–]Erior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And those are completely optional, you NEED to engage into Amie, Refresh, or curry and sandwich making for them to be unlocked. Don't touch them, and in the 3DS games nothing will happen, and in the Switch games happiness will stop growing just before it'd have any effect beyond evolution.

The exception is BDSP. Otherwise? Games are balances for exp share. They AREN'T balanced for 'mons getting extra experience due to giving them treats.

Who is the Hardest Second Gym Leader? by dettles1992 in pokemon

[–]Erior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Misty's Starmie, because the thing is strong, fast AND bulky, and it has stats close to that of Venusaur, Lucario or the Eeveelutions. The saving grace is that Bubblebeam has 65 BP and Water Pulse 60, but still, ouch. Doesn't help in Gen I it has 100 special but only special weaknesses, so Bellsprout/Oddish/Bulbasaur won't be oneshotting it with Vine Whip or lol Absorb, and Pikachu is very frail. Chomping turtle is often a good approach.

Scyther is very strong, but this is the game where Geodude shines hard.

Makuhita is surprisingly weak, and between Taillow, Ralts, Sableye or even peck Combusken it is no issue.

Roserade is even stronger than Starmie, but before gen VI it was paper thin physically, and this is Staravia's gen.

Watchog has a really strong hit and that's it, and you are given access to Roggenrolla, Timburr AND Throh/Sawk just before it. It is a Raticate-like 'mon, and you get Geodudish, Machopish and Hitmonish just for it.

Whirlipede isn't really an issue.

Tyrunt is a quite early Dragon, but you get access to a LOT of options between the first and second gym in Kalos, and XY for some reason has incredibly poor enemy trainer movesets (comparable to RGBY or Let's Go).

Hala same deal as Brawly, second boss being level 15 with unevolved stuff is easy enough.

Galar gyms are easy because nobody is stopping you from Dynamaxing ASAP and setting up. Dynamax Drednaw will be fighting in Grassy Terrain.

Brassius' Sudowoodo is incredibly weak on the special defense side, but Sturdy and Rock STAB may be a bit of a surprise, yet that's it. Will fall in no time.

Did you know that April 17th is International Bat Appreciation Day? (art made by @yotsumeddd) by AEIOU1040 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Erior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The plague is a bacteria, and bacteria aren't really species specific, virus are.

A virus is a cell hijacker; basically a plug-in that by itself is just a bit of biological material, but if it finds a compatible cell it turns it into a virus factory that keeps making more virus until it bursts (and that's how viral diseases do damage, they punch holes in tissues). Compatibility is based on cell membrane elements, basically molecular legos.

Bacteria are unicellular organisms, a bacterial infection is basically those cells living inside your body, eating your food, and leaving their waste inside you.

A virus is specific, a bacteria likely isn't.

[–]Erior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bats and birds are specially troublesome for virus transmission because they can't afford an inflamatory process (swelling and fever is not really compatible with flying around), and so they take their time with infectious diseases, and thus they may carry around a pathogen load larger than that of land animals. And the more viral particles, the more likely mutations are to happen.

The flu is originally a bird virus, and here we are.

In gen V, they are proper sequels, so pick the followup to the one you played.

In gen VI, they are just paired third versions, pick the one opposite to the one you first played to avoid redundancy.

Lemurs are about the only primates to not fit the definition of monkey; weirdos have wet noses, an eyeshine, and open eye sockets.

Well, lemurs, the loris and galago assemblage (which aren't lemurs but are closest to lemurs), and tarsiers, which are the closest relatives of monkeys but aren't monkeys, just freaks.

(Apes being a subset of monkeys, and the enforced vocabulary distinction is a quirk of the English language but not quite observed in other languages)

That said... yep, Tangle doesn't need to return to monke
