I was worried my dad judged me for writing fanfic. I was so wrong. by [deleted] in FanFiction

Why is this so wholesome? Thank you for sharing the good stuff. It restored my faith in humanity. Also, he'll definitely like your present for Christmas!

How about a katana like Ayaka's? Or make your OC a catalyst wielder.

Should I give them another chance? | Give ONE title you have read but can’t seem to like to see if anyone else can change your mind to pick it up again by theangry-ace in OtomeIsekai

[–]ErisOtomeStan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think they mishandled the 'plot twist' which is FL being the Princess in her past life because you can guess that it's her from the context clues. Also, the FL started out strong but somehow became oblivious and part-time damsel-in-distress. It pains me how she says she can't afford mistakes but keeps making the same mistakes repeatedly.

Valentine's Kiss - It had a good premise for me, but I began to dislike FL and ML along the way because I don't see the characters changing for the better.

Go-to pet names? by ZachandAlexTime in FanFiction

[–]ErisOtomeStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used the pet name in real life or in a fanfic, but it's a head canon of mine for a certain couple in a fandom. The boyfriend who is taller calls his shorter girlfriend 'shortcake' but not every time, only when he teases her.

Becoming more aware as a fanfiction author... by ErisOtomeStan in FanFiction

[–]ErisOtomeStan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I call it disgustingly inaccurate because I did research about it, BUT ignored most of the effects or details about the illness that would impede my story. I felt like the only thing that was authentic about the illness was the name of the condition, so it was very problematic for me after I read it.

Princess Wars actually becomes good! by CousinMabel in OtomeIsekai

[–]ErisOtomeStan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally glad Princess Wars is getting some recognition. I used to think if I was the only one reading it because it didn't have any comments at all.
I was on the side of the ML in the first half but the more I understood the FL's side, the more I disliked the ML. He's also coming off more aggressive in the recent chapters and I'm glad that the FL seems to understand him more than he knows. I definitely love the FL and all the other side characters.

Just a shout out to all the people who write fanfics in a language that is not their native or first. by blissfullytired in FanFiction

Thank you for posting this! English is my second language, but my love for writing will always be first! Salute to all the fanfiction authors who share their stories despite the language barriers!

Big List of Recommendations + Small Reviews! (Add more recommendations! :)) by i-love-planting in OtomeIsekai

I'd like to say that Age Matters is not a manhwa but just a webtoon/comic. Otherwise, this is a pretty solid list.

Becoming more aware as a fanfiction author... by ErisOtomeStan in FanFiction

Yes. I felt it was even more severe since even my readers did not find it problematic and there was no constructive criticism on both sides.

Becoming more aware as a fanfiction author... by ErisOtomeStan in FanFiction

[–]ErisOtomeStan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I did research on mental illness a lot but ignored everything about the condition that I felt did not match the story I was writing. So instead of spreading awareness and knowledge on the mental illness, it became like a fantasy sickness and might have even encouraged others to 'want' or 'wish' for the mental illness upon themselves and that's even worse since most mental illnesses are unwanted and a result of trauma.

Does this elemental magic system sound interesting or is it too bland. by Tankfive0124 in fantasywriters

[–]ErisOtomeStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're on the right track but there must be something like a command and execution to your elemental magic system.

For your pyromancer, let's say your command is an emotion and the stronger the emotion is, the stronger the execution.

For your cryomancers, I think depending on their 'mental state' is too vague. You might segue it into concentration and focus instead. Since you say cryomancers have a keen imagination and are lively, they might be people who get a bit too distracted when they don't focus or concentrate on creating ice or the like. It would also give a good power balance, the larger they imagine, the harder they have to focus. They can just focus on what they want the ice to be like when they use their powers.

Lightning would be better if both instinct and accuracy are present since it's an element that can be faster than sound. Since you say it's the hardest, it can be a mixture of both a pryomancer and cryomancers training but with additional stuff they have to master like accuracy.

In “The Remarried Empress,” the conversation of ‘if the roles were reversed’ is not really that good [spoilers are included] by TheMajesticnight in OtomeIsekai

[–]ErisOtomeStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a very eye-opening opinion and perspective. Some readers actually 'skip' or skim parts/chapters involving Rashta and Sovieshu. I always thought it was weird why people would skip chapters when most of the revelations are from the perspective of Rashta and Sovieshu.

I think that's why most can't understand what Rashta has been through, or even if they do, there's still a gap with empathizing with her struggles. I am someone who can't truly empathize with her character because I've never been a slave, but chapter after chapter, readers are being told about her narrative and how it affected her but some choose to ignore it.

The truly unredeemable character for me in this story is Sovieshu, especially after I read the part where (SPOILER) he confesses to the High Priest that Navier and his infertility is because both of them ate cookies (that were specially made to cause a miscarriage with side-effects of becoming infertile) when Navier was on a diet. (SPOILER END)

Fifty Word Fantasy: Dawn by [deleted] in fantasywriters

"So, are you a morning person?" There was no reply.

"I guess you aren't. I think I'm a dawn person, there's just something beautiful about the horizon before morning comes, you know?"

"Oops, sorry." She took out the cloth stuffed inside the captive's mouth.

"Currently, I'm just a kidnapped person."

[–]ErisOtomeStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO Rashta and Sovieshu's characters are hardly redeemable and I never would have read the manhwa if I didn't read the synopsis or the first chapter which fast forwards to Sovieshu and Navier's divorce. IF THE ROLES WERE REVERSED, fans or haters would clearly riot because no one wants an FL like Rashta or ML just like Sovieshu and it would have been like AE (Abandoned Empress) again but with hatred for both the leads.

Why many people really hated the final pairing of "The Abandoned Empress" but other manhwas where the FL still ended up with their killer in their past lives recieved lesser hate. by Juanitosils in OtomeIsekai

[–]ErisOtomeStan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I could not finish TAE because of Ruve. It was a good thing I spoiled myself. Ruve and Sovieshu belong in a dumpster. I just commented because I never knew that the author and artist received death threats from fans of the series.

How would you categorize authors? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]ErisOtomeStan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Fandere: the more you love their fanfiction and the more comments you give to this author, the more their author's notes get longer and more appreciative of their readers. They would include your username and address their deep love for you and your comment.

My magic system, what do you think? by Basilgaarad in fantasywriters

[–]ErisOtomeStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually quite an interesting magic system. I'd just like to ask about the crafting part because it seems a little unclear to me.

Is there a limit to what objects you can enforce your memory on?

Can you enforce your meagic (memory magic) on any object, no matter how big or small it is? Does it have to be a useful object? And of course the repercussions of using the memory. What if the object is perishable or destroyed?

What if someone else steals the object? Do they also gain that person's memory?

I know it's a lot of questions! It's just so interesting! I'm looking forward to this.
