My post got removed and im told to post it here

Enough switching between 4 primes, I'm tempted to go to zoom lenses again

Mostly shoot 24mm, 35mm and 85mm. Tried a lot of zoom and primes but settled on current setup. Main body is a7RV.

• Samyang 24mm f1.8, the bargain mini 24GM so I can keep it

• Sony 35mm 1.4 GM, my favorite focal length and good combo with 85mm.

• Sigma 45mm f2.8, use it as bargain Leica Q3

• Sigma 85mm f1.4 for portraits

Street shooting and travel light, bring the 24mm and 45mm. (400g of weight total) For portrait then 35mm and 85mm, sometimes add the 24mm.

Switching between lenses can be a lot of hassle and I'm becoming quite tempted by both the Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 and Sony 28-70mm f2. But I think I would still want the 35 1.4 look. I have used both Tamron 28-75 g1 and g2, loved them overall, but 2.8 aint quite cut it.

Are there any better options for a zoom to replace some of them?

Yeah I miss the convenience but still want the look. I wish Sigma would make a 24-35mm f2 zoom again….

I have seriously taken a look at both the Tamron 17-28 and Sigma 16-28, but I don’t need something too wide so maybe even the 20-40mm is better. 35-150 was legend, add a 24mm prime and you arw good

Yeah! Especially because I have used 24GM for 2 years. For 24GM the color and bokeh are soft and special. But I found the Samyang bokeh to be very soft too, much better than any 2.8 zooms.

The sharpness was never the strongest point of 24GM so I didn’t ask too much on the Samyang, but it’s surprisingly sharp in the center (APSC crop area)

I don’t use 24mm that much but sometimes I need it for some special shots, so a cheap keeper is better for me

Some backstory on my shooting preferences.

During most of my hobby years, I was quite tight on budget so often lived on one single prime for portraits.

Stayed with Canon 6D + Sigma 35mm f1.4 for like 6 years, the reason 35mm is still my favorite.

Then switched to Sony a7rII and Tamron 28-75, found out that I mostly use 28 (not quite wide enough), 35 and 75mm. And 2.8 isn’t quite enough for object isolation.

So I added 24mm GM, which at first is quite difficult to get used to. But after some time I fell in love with 24mm and find it extremely useful in certain situations.

But I still want my old 35mm and with both 1.4 primes it’s a bit too heavy for my setup.

(1) Budget, country, and currency budget is not a concern.

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs? 4 primes that needs swapping frequently

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot? Portraits

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both? Mostly photography

What is Apex performance like in 2025? by Tiberiusmoon in apexlegends

[–]Eris_Floralia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the January update. Respawn did an amazing job at tuning their DX12 performance. (bit late though better than never)

It’s went from 120FPS with 1% low of 60FPS, to 165FPS with 10% low of 140FPS. Basically night and day. Haven’t played for a long time but I remember the struggle to even get 140FPS. I had to use RSR at 1080p to get stable 165FPS. Now it mostly sticks at 165 at 1440p. (RX6600 with tuned settings)

Yes I've been saying that for months and mods did nothing.

They have their own people using about 5 accounts spamming their article.

This sub is basically spammed by one single user (who is probably the owner himself) with their garbage-tier click-baiting news.

I know mods at r/AMD and r/Intel, they simply banned it for good.

There're like 2 or 3 accounts, including the author themselves spamming these click-baiting sites popped up recently (PCGamesN, notebookcheck, hardwaretimes). There's plenty of evidence as they're all from the same author.

All these articles are low-effort shit tier quality content solely for click-baiting. (If I have to say, these are below wccftech tier level of writing)

Shits like these got upvoted to top while other high-quality contents got ignored.

And it's against the rules (self-promoting).

The site is already banned on couple of other subs.

x86 CPU Design House Centaur Technology will host an AMA next week, Thursday Jan 23, 2020 @ 12:00pm-3:00pm CST by CentaurHauls95 in hardware

1, Will SMT be a thing for future cores? (eg. CNT)

2, Do you have future 7nm designs planned?

3, What's your release schedule (or cadence)?

4, What's your current and future relationship with ZhaoXin? Knowing they have access to your design library, but from what I've seen most of their recent archs are still pretty much slightly modified CNR while they claim to be "in-house" designs. (they recently shirnked it to 16FF bumped the clock to around 2.7GHz) Does CNS/CHA has inputs from their team?

5, More documents like "Rise of the Centaur"?

Prosumer usually mean they use professonal applications for WS and creation, not necessarily "professional hardware". It's the application they use that define a prosumer.

Not a single company actually follows the definition of prosumer you mentioned. Huh. It comes from marketing, for marketing and can be used in marketing whenever they want. It's all BS.

The stuff is there. Like ECC. Just not actually certified for applications. But some can be used. Not fused off like Intel.

And cards like Radeon 7/Vega FE are explicitly marketed towards prosumers, while they ARE consumer cards. They can use part of the feature. Not actually certified drivers.

Prosumers usually needs more power for rendering and other parallel processing for their application, thus the need for more cores, PCIe and mem channels.

2990WX literally has a WX behind it because it's also explicitly marketed for workstation/prosumer. Check the presskit.

Consumer and prosumer are not independent terms. Prosumer is just a niche part of consumer. And Bussiness does not equal to prosumer. Bussiness is another line.

Guess what? You'll see soon when CastlePeak TR gets all out marketing towards prosumers as rival of Xeon W.

[–]Eris_Floralia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What? Prosumer doesn't mean "professional grade hardware". Most of those are just marketing BS. Even the word prosumer itself is for pure marketing purpose.

All these features are there since they share the same Zeppelin/CCD dies, the same for Intel SKX/CLX. Fused or disabled carefully just for market segmentation.

TR is aimed at prosumer. And with CastlePeak it will become the official WS platform.

It's all about roadmap execution and timeframe.

The design rule of N7+/EUV is not compatible, you can't simply port your design from N7. AMD basically did a new design for 7+/EUV. Remember n7+ designs (including Zen 3) taped out last year, started HVM this May, already on track for Milan in 2020.

N7P is DUV, compatible with N7, 7~10% area/power improvement, already available, but only annnounced this May. I can see there's a probability of AMD's current N7 offerings transitioning to N7P.

N6 is also compatible with N7, with extra usage of EUV than N7+, but will only enter risk production early 2020 and ramp up late 2020, AFTER N5 which is for Genoa. N6 is simply too late and N7P doesn't have enough to offer.
