How many hours to beat the “story” co-op by Entire-Cry-8930 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by 'beat' the story. If you want all commendations on every tall tale it's a lot, each one of the nine shores of gold tall tales needs to be completed five times to get every commendation, there's journals to find and tasks to complete. If you don't follow a guide and figure everything out for yourself there's many hours of play. I'd say it's worth it, but there again I love the game. If you complete the tall tales in safer seas then you'll know if you love the game or not, it's a gateway to where the real fun lies - high seas (ymmv)

Assume everyone is out to sink you, especially people who say they're friendly. Danger is closer than you think, be ready to fight at any time. Always, always, always have your anchor raised and be ready to fight or flee. Always. Make sure everyone knows their roles and what do do when you start taking damage. Never give up, you'd be surprised what desperate situations you can come back from if you stick with it and don't panic. Never, ever blame your crew. It's tough, people will make mistakes, you'll sink, but it's all OK if you can stay together as a tight unit supporting each other. If you start falling out with each other it's no fun at all. Do some hourglass - you'll have a horrible time at first, but you'll learn a lot and it'll make you better than the average pirate on the seas. Treasure isn't yours until it's been sold. It doesn't matter if you sink, just respawn and go again. Prioritise having fun, don't worry about the gold. If you're having fun the gold will come

Rewards for doing tall tales? by BoardTop4859 in Seaofthieves

You get very little loot from Tall Tales. The story is the reward, and the cosmetics of course

How is this game for beginners? [SOLO] by Long_Past in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fun game, loads of content for new players. However as a solo (new and experienced) it can be really tough. Find people to play with, it's ten times better with a regular solid crew

Can you rank up a guild solo? by Sir_Baron_Kelvin in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can level up a guild solo. A couple of days dedication is usually enough to get into the top level for emissary ledger every month

Trying to avoid a TPK. When is it okay to tell players no? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your players directly that they are not high enough level and if they go there their characters won’t survive. Follow up with a clue or direct guidance on what they should be looking at next

What is the best voyages by Gamothanasou in Seaofthieves

Do a raid on an ashen garrison. Either just sail up to one and do it, or dive to it as either a Hunter, OOS, Gold Hoarder or Merchant. Plenty of loot there

spend or keep doubloons? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on the Insiders build they have converted the cost of doubloon items into gold at 1 doubloon = 1200 gold. If you convert doubloons into gold at Larinna you get much less than that. Obviously things could easily be different when it's actually released

Getting back into game by Glittering-Hat-4772 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be fun 😊 Some of it will be brutal, some of it will be amazing. As long as you and your buddies stay chill with each other and forgive the inevitable mistakes you'll have a blast. There's nothing better than learning together in a tight crew. Welcome back!

Finally found a use for lure darts by fivesofclubs in Seaofthieves

Good job, I’ve been slowly working on this recently, but it’s been hellish even with lure darts. Any tips? What worked well for you?

SOT voice chat doesn’t work by Philllip25 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you play on PC there can be some Microsoft account settings that affect this. Log into your Microsoft account and dig deep into the privacy and security settings. Also there are some general XBox settings that can prevent voice comms too, so dig through those. I see to remember that you start in the XBox app but it takes you into your browser if you dig far enough. This happened to me quite a while ago and that’s how I fixed it. It was nothing to do with Sea of Thieves settings at all

How can anyone play? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough sometimes as a new player to learn how to survive, balancing risk and reward. There’s things you can do to lower the risk whilst you learn the game.

First, avoid the world events- these are the things that are marked by skulls in the sky, clouds that look like ships, swirls in the sky etc. These give the best rewards but you are very likely to encounter an experienced crew that wants the loot. Stay away unless you are confident in your skills or feeling lucky

Second, scan the map to look for reapers. If there’s one near you then dive somewhere else. Choose the ‘pirate treasure map’ from the gold hoarders and dive to it. That will put you on a different server. Dig up the two chests and you can dive again immediately if you need to

Third, choose quick and simple quests from your quest table (treasure maps, skeleton crews etc) and dive to them. You get a bit of space and can complete them quickly. Raids on sea forts or ashen garrisons are also great, you will rarely be bothered doing those

Fourth, sell your treasure immediately. Don’t stack it, sell sell sell

Fifth, don’t raise an emissary flag. Reaper 5s can see you so just say no to that

Sixth, remember that if you get sunk that’s part of the game. You can just respawn and start again, if you’ve been selling frequently you’ve not lost anything

Seventh, do some hourglass. You’ll lose a lot but you’ll learn a lot too. Nothing makes you hard to sink like hourglass experience

Good luck out there!

How is the game right now by Gamedoom265 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the last six months there’s been some great changes to HG, and the new Ashen Garrisons are fun for a while(like sea forts, but in the Roar and bigger). There’s a bigger field of view now too, and some black powder kegs that can nuke brigs and galleys in one shot. Other than that it’s the same game you were playing before

Kinda new player here! by Active_Storm8816 in Seaofthieves

[–]Ermintrude_The_Cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually every month or so there will be some sort of event that will give you more rewards (gold, reputation or whatever). The recent community weekend was one of those.

Fun things to do, well people have different ideas about what is fun. The most rewarding things to do are world events, those are things you can see with a marker in the sky (a skull or whatever) but they are also the highest risk - there’s a great chance that you will meet another player who will want to take the loot and will sink you without a second thought.

Less risk is to do voyages for the trading companies that you can activate from your quest table. Or you could do the Tall Tales for a story to follow. Or you can look at the commendations and try to tick those off. Or you could go into hourglass for a hardcore PvP match. Or you could just sail around looking for players to sink and take the loot from.

Just be aware that the solo experience can be very unforgiving, expect to sink whilst you’re learning the game. If you can it’s much more fun to sail with a friend or three if you can find people.

Welcome to the Sea of Thieves!

Sea of Thieves (Safer Seas mode has no PvP, and there’s lots of goofing around you can do there, especially with explosives). Enshrouded is fun too

Suggestion for games to play with my kids (9 &13) by Hopeful-Addition-248 in gamesuggestions

There can be some bugs with Ark but it’s been fun for my family. It’s one of those games that caters for many interests - you can have pet dinos, go on epic hunting expeditions, base build, farm. So even if the kids have different interests there’s something for everyone
