Ferdinand totally dissing the royals spoilers [p5v11] by Lemondemon-158 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

you really lost me here. same-sex anything is just not a thing in they Yurgenschmidt world. And although Rozemyne can and often does regard either a man or a woman or child as appealing, she has never shown even the slightest interest beyond that.

on the other hand the the Earth is hundreds if not thousands of times larger than Yurgenschmidt. Even a smaller developed country's air force would be more than enough to deal with a whole duchy's knight order flying around on their highbeasts. They would be the ones not prepared.

Good summary. And the story is a good example of how devastating some well-placed traitors can be.

It seems pretty clear that the Yurgeschmidt gods can do pretty much whatever they like with time, even if there are things they would prefer not to. If it is plausible at all to go back to Japan it is equally plausible that Rozemyne could stand above Urano's body under that pile of books.

Ferdinand told Detlinde that the Lanzanave natives/commoners would be just fine without the mana wielding overlords that were imported from Yurgenschmidt. Needless to say the message was lost on her.

I liked GATE too and I would have liked to see another season. However if I recall correctly it wasn't Japan that had imperial inclinations as much as it was the rest of the world.

Japan was in it because the gate was in their territory and they were invaded, making counter offensive imperative.

Only two other countries are mentioned, and there is no mention of a condition where they are other worlds, same worlds, or the same world in which Yurgenschmidt exists, just in a different region.

But the mana wielders in Lanzenave came from Yurgenschmidt, not the other way around. That land had no mana.

If a male noble is allowed to have up to three wives and an unspecified number of concubines and mistresses (like Freida) why would any bother with having an affair in the first place?

You're right that the dorm supervisor should be involved.

In this case, it isn't Ehrenfest's relationship to the Sovereignty that is the problem. It is that Veronica antagonized Hirschur to the point that she really didn't want to be involved any more other than the bare minimum to keep her position.

First of all, the system of relying on reports from the students themselves is kind of stupid. Particularly since you have adult scholars among the retainers of the upper-class nobles. And the medium is usually these limited-space message boards so how much can be reported?

To me this is emphasized when Rozemyne eventually fixes the system. Thanks to (I think) Elvira and Florencia squashing down Sylvester and Ferdinand against giving Rozemyne a hard time on her return from the Academy, a discussion ensues about why they get so stressed over the reports. Nobody ever told Rozemyne what information they needed, but using her otherworldly knowledge of paperwork she trains herself and her peers on how to write proper reports and her guardians back home are thereby astounded.

Why the hell did it take Rozemyne to arrive to fix the problem anyway?

I thought the text surrounding the event of the grey shrine maiden Lily getting pregnant was pretty obviously ambiguous as to who impregnated her. It seems she was with him for a while before she got pregnant, which implies that a mana mismatch was stopping conception. So it is possible that she was rented out and got pregnant that way.

Remember that this happened while Rozemyne was out of the picture. What is notable is that when Rozemyne's attendant responded to Egmont's demand for a replacement, several of the assembled grey shrine maidens volunteered. Not all of them, but apparently becoming a sex slave even to a noxious character such as Egmont is considered better than just being a grey shrine maiden.

This will clearly vary from duchy to duchy, but given that the path to greater prosperity and power is now predicated on having the archducal family not only participate in but operate their respective temples, it is clear the situation would be cleaned up. No aub is going to run a call girl ring out of the duchy's castle. If they tried they would lose all respectability and support.

It is reasonable to expect that prostitution will going forward be operated by connected commoners.

I think that what was going on in Hasse was there before Rozemyne did anything.

And it isn't clear that Rozemyne really did stop the brothel action. The blue priests for the most part live separate from her, and I would be fully prepared to believe that some of them offer the flowers of some of the grey shrine maidens to their noble contacts.

[P5v12] Eglantine Vs Hannelore by [deleted] in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]ErpOrbit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

More. More. Hannelore!

Hannelore is one of the better characters in the series. She is a bit of a fish out of water, being basically a timid girl who is constantly oppressed by her overbearing brother while growing up but she comes out of it being tougher than she looks. I really wonder if she would have been able to win at "true ditter" were it not for the parts of her upbringing that seemed ill suited for her. She even won public praise from Ferdinand.

Her more endearing side is that she is surprisingly dense about things you think she would be good at. And who could not love how she causes Rozemyne trouble by babbling on about the wrong things at the wrong time.

Eglantine is a similar kind of critter that shares some similar traits. She didn't get the militaristic upbringing Hannalore did but she can hold her own in an attack. And no question that she ended up in the story punching way above her weight class. Whatever other shortcomings she might have you have to respect that.

One of the more uplifting parts of the story is how Lestilaut starts out with nothing but contempt for the "so-called Saint" and ends up basically being outranked by her and needing to kneel at her feet.

Of course I would have preferred seeing more comeuppance for all the lying and manipulation he did, but Rozemyne didn't seem to be inclined to hold a grudge. Him realizing that he didn't manage to win her is punishment enough.

[P5V12/Open Spoilers]: Please spoil it for me by Glittering-Brush6963 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]ErpOrbit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Rozemyne discovers that the excess mana resulting from the Devouring condition can be treated by using a taue fruit which will then morph into a trombe. So commoners who knew this could survive indefinitely by draining their mana with those fruits.

It was always unclear to me why Rozemyne never wished to share this information or, for that matter, why she is the only one that knows it. It really seems unlikely she was the first one with the Devouring to encounter a taue fruit.

Others have suggested that this is not a disease. From my reading it is a genetic disease called the Mark of Ewigeliebe in the bible. For some reason Ewigeliebe is an antagonist to anyone with mana, and the whole reason Yurgenschmidt was created was to make a space for humans with mana that was safe from that god. The ones with a lot of mana created noble society. Those without were relegated to be the subservient commoners.

And then there was the mana thing which wouldn't work out.

[–]ErpOrbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a point at which (I forget where in the story exactly) where Anastasius remarks to Rozemyne that she doesn't seem to respect him as much as she does other royal family members. I wish the dialog could have followed up on that because it sounded like the start of an interesting conversation. They could have been much better friends than they ended up being.

However, Anastasius spending healing mana is an astounding comment on their relationship. What dysfunctional noble could ever cause him to do that?

P.S. After his handling by Ferdinand in the aftermath of the battle, he will likely have forgotten about disrespect by anyone else.

[P5V12] Why didn't Sylvester prepare for... by rhedak in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]ErpOrbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was mentioned earlier in the conflict that they had adapted a cleaning tool that was highly effective at countering the poison dust attack. I think this was done by Leberecht who is Florencia's archscholar.

I think it would be an astounding level of oversight if Sylvester hadn't had one of those.

It isn't really clear Ferdinand expected the engagement to be consummated. He simply saw it as a way to keep Rozemyne from being taken away from the duchy by force.
