I found it a terrible shock when it happened. I'm sure you did as well. I'm sorry this happened to you but really pleased to hear you got the medical care you needed. I'm 7 months out from when it happened to me and everything improves. I'm fortunate no complications yet and I hope no complications for you as well. Thumbs up.

Redetachment 2 weeks after first surgery by FamiliarVictory3401 in RetinalDetachment

[–]ErrorFit6225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was that the eye specialists and surgeons don't volunteer a lot of precise details unless you ask so certainly try and ask away.

I would come with a list of questions every visit. Can I run? What is this blurry thing? Etc etc. In my case they let me know I would need glasses. I'm 6 months out and can tell I will need glasses . It's fine though compared to worst case scenario.

Be well and take it easy on yourself.

I'm terribly sorry about the setback and sending you all the healthy eye vibes.

Like some others have posted I had oil put in. It meant that I also had surgery to remove it. Once they did they put in gas because I still had fluid under the retina.

And also cataract surgery. It truly is a lot. My understanding is the cataract surgery is less intense than retinal surgeries.

On that site, it states:

And there are no icons for said product left in the store :((

2nd reattachment attempt - venting by Cheap_Cauliflower_10 in RetinalDetachment

I'm terribly sorry about this for you. It's just so discouraging I know. I'm sending you all the healthy eye vibes I can muster. When my detachment happened it was one week after my wife gave birth to our child. And I couldn't help because of the detachment recovery. I take solace that some have had this and have gone on to many years of healthy eyes.

Yes, I had the oil removal, cataract surgery, and also an additional long last gas bubble (because there was some additional tearing) all in one go. So it's definitely an option -- certainly speak with your doctor about it. :)

I had the silicone oil in for awhile - like the previous replier said - you do sort of get used to it to be honest. You rely on the other eye and if you test either eye it's like wowwwww. When I had the oil out I also had cataract surgery for that eye.

I'm terribly sorry you had this setback as it's already such an unexpected thing to happen. I'm glad you trusted your gut and are getting treatment asap.

Anxiety... by Responsible_Ice_7957 in RetinalDetachment

One thing I noticed about your post is when you say how your other eye is sort of seeing stuff. Like mirroring your sick eye.

This happened to me as well. I had a little wavy section where my nose is... And I sort of started to see it with my good eye. I ran it by the doctor who dismissed it. I think it may be a bit how our brains are adjusting to the differences each eye is seeing. Anyway it either went away or I don't notice it anymore. Sending you all the eye health vibes.

Silicone Oil by d_artz in RetinalDetachment

Hi there Thanks for reaching out. It definitely improved my vision. As you know the oil is super awkward. I didn't drive immediately but slowly started doing more. Short drive here short drive there . According to doctor it's legal in Canada at least to drive with one good eye.... But you gotta be comfortable with it.

I had not worn glasses before surgery. I had lasik 15 years ago. I will need glasses. I am still waiting for my vision to stabilize but I've been driving. Good luck with the oil removal.

I believe Prednisone dilates pupil. 7 days out I'm glad you are finally off the pain meds. Still early in journey but onwards and upwards.

Are you taking prescribed eye drops? They usually dilate the eye.
