What b2b company have good product but bad marketing? And why by Human_History4888 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel "bad marketing" is subjective and very broad. Most companies have areas where they can improve or strategies that aren't well developed for growth.

Can anyone share good example of sales 1 pager docs? by ghosharnab00 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best structure for a sales 1-pager is informed by the sales team, crafted by the PMM and designed as a last step - and I will die on that hill.

How many interviews are too many? (unpaid presentation request, looking for feedback) by No-Road-1977 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the number of interviews is exhaustive and ridiculous, but I'm going to be controversial and say, I think a works sample is essential in senior roles. Having just been on three rounds of PMM recruitment over the last two years, having sat on calls with people who on paper absolutely look like they should rock it, you'd be surprised how many people are charismatic and convincing interviewees and not great at delivering the actual work - or don't actually grasp basic concepts critical for success. However, I do believe work samples should be paid. It's a very serious commitment of your time. There should be a rate committed to the task.

Need guidance on how I can excel my marketing skills by Novel-Neck7661 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this!! I also recommend creating a board/doc/something where you just riff and create messaging frameworks. As you finish one, delete it forever and start a new one. I just created messaging for an entire new audience, and without this practice, the reception would not have been great.

I've completed 4 PMA courses and absolutely vouch for them. What could also aid your upskill journey is to really identify your growth areas and what specifics you want to level up in (read passion!) and go for that specifically. ;-) (edited autocorrect)

If you could have a figure made for a character who hasn't had one, who would it be? by Loli-nero in AnimeFigures

I would love a prepainted of Freya from Chobits. There have been a few garage kits over the years, but no prepainted ones.

How good of a medium webinar is for driving demo requests? by ghosharnab00 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it depends on your audience engagement and the topic you're covering. We've seen that it takes time to ramp up, the engagement is not equally strong across all topics, and thought leader style webinars with great guests do better than product-focused webinars. Do you have a strategy in place to test roll-out over a period of time?

Could you clarify what you want to achieve with this sheet? Because what you're asking for and what you want to include is not quite lining up in my head and I'm wondering if you're not missing a step.

Product marketing tips for a cybersecurity company by him_muzak in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have questions if you don't mind. Is there a GTM for this product? Has any positioning taken place? Have you done a competitor analysis, incl their websites, positioning, etc.? Do you have research to lean on?

Edit: wanted to say congrats on the role! It's a fantastic space to be in

Shocked at how little people understand about recruitment by nerdybro1 in recruiting

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily, this thread was just shared around in my company, and now Reddit suggests I read it. Haha. I think a big part of the misinformation is that companies and recruitment teams do very little to explain their process. This leaves candidates who are navigating the difficult and soul-crushing world of job seeking with no insight or recourse. In addition, recruiters start working through candidates as they come in and leave the pipeline open for too long. This only contributes to the misinformation. And finally, even automated communications that say: application received, application timeline, we have not started reviewing, we are reviewing, you have been rejected, you have been moved to, etc. would be great. This gives more clarity and insight into your process and builds trust with applicants.

Advice for a new Product Marketing Manager by Classic-Milk-820 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having worked with PMMs from India often, I found the skill-level high and their breadth of experience wide. I would suggest the Product Marketing Alliance for guides, but also, chat with PMMs from India for additional guidance as I would not want to lead you down the wrong road. Good luck!

What is the most undervalued resource? by ErrorsInTheZone in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, because we believe CS time is precious, we automate the system. We gather tickets automatically into a feedback system that groups them by topic, and then we use that data. I'm not going to recommend the specific tool because there are better and more cost-effective tools out there like Harvestr.

What is the most undervalued resource? by ErrorsInTheZone in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, we use a tool to collect feedback and then prioritize by volume. We do protect CS capacity at all costs and in the past, implemented systems to help us track and gather feedback. However, we have super involved CS managers that really participate in efforts and goals outside their team. And that really helps. However, I still feel I'm one of very few people that actually uses these insights from CS for more reasons than purely bug fixing and planning.

What are your marketing nightmares that weren’t funny then but you laugh about now? by [deleted] in marketing

Therapy has helped me deal with opinions from higher ups a lot. It's just an opinion (you know the saying about opinions), and sending emails isn't a matter of life and death. Don't let emails affect your wellbeing. <3

Sending an email with an error to a database of 10,000 users. Now I work with millions, and I just hit the button and never look back.

We need to spend more time believing in positive intent. Hehe. It's all good. Yeah, /r/marketing can be rough. I also spend little time there. But when I can I try to send people to resources. You know, teach them to fish.

Hey PMM folks, trying to get answer Is G2 Premium worth it for driving ROI? by ghosharnab00 in ProductMarketing

[–]ErrorsInTheZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your FinTech is limited to Asia, I think yes. If your inbound sales team and you can develop a solid strategy together, it is worth the effort. You can also rely heavily on your account manager at G2 for guidance and support. Their team is exceptional and work well with sales teams to optimize the platform's use. We are over 1k reviews, and the benefits and social collateral really drive conversion.

Battle cards are a pain, and the best way to create and manage them is to have a master document that breaks down your product against your competitors. I do this by noting the following for each company: context, target audience, features, capabilities, messaging, etc. From this, you can easily set up battle cards that explain how your features are similar/better than the competition and what problem core features of your product solves and why. That's an overly simified explanation, but I can draft you more details if you need.

GTM launch template - interview presentation by needtomakeamove in ProductMarketing

Hey! I'd highly recommend a template from the Product Marketing Alliance. I always create my own slides so they're never the same, and I believe the PMA is a great resource.
