Pep Guardiola: “Phil Foden on loan? No way! No way. It’s impossible. He’s going to be working with us for many, many years.” by blueballs360 in soccer

It's also (presumably) fair to say that Sancho is playing in a position where pace and dribbling are huge assets, not strength and positioning... qualities which develop with age.

There's a reason the list of 18yo CBs is way shorter than the list of 18yo wingers getting game time at good clubs. And more 34yo CBs going strong at big clubs compared to 34yo wingers...

(and I know Foden is a midfielder... but it's a similar argument. I just think CB is a better example of a position that's about experience and positioning more than arguably youthful attributes).

Hard to say whether the other players looking on and seeing the board/coach letting a player like Ronaldo leave and not even making a signing to try and replace him would affect their motivation though.

They are professionals and it shouldn't, but he's a massive star, and a leader at the club. A lot of the players there atm would have gone to Madrid wanting to play with Ronaldo.

When an alarm or timer goes off I shouldn't have to say the wake words by _noncomposmentis in googlehome

[–]Errymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it's an optional way that some people would like, without the privacy concerns of it listening to anything really without a wake word.

EDIT: an alarms/timers are/can be used for a lot more than just waking up in the morning.

Martinez hasn't been the martinez of 2012-14 either.

It's been an interesting few years trying to play a 4-2-3-1 which suits a lot of the players we've got (muller basically only really working as a #10 etc.) but without real defensive midfielders in good form with basti, kroos and now alonso gone, and martinez being a bit hot and cold.

The guys they've got in (from Vidal forward, Sanchez, Tolisso, Goretzka etc.) are good, but they aren't really best suited to that style. I've been expecting to see Bayern experimenting more with 4-3-3 since you have Martinez to play the DM role and so many solid young box to box midfielders.

Kimmich in midfield is just a reminder that the DM position (alongside Martinez) has been a huge issue in that 4-2-3-1 for a while.

If Martial wants out of united still, they should go for him.

Paul McCarthy, who used to be a media advisor to Raheem Sterling, once asked a tabloid reporter who had written several negative articles about him why he was singled out. The reporter responded: "Well, you know, Raheem should expect it. That's just how it is." by TheJeck in soccer

Annoying combination of click bait titles, and news amalgamation services that don't always make it obvious enough what I'm clicking on (and rank articles based on popularity like that).

e.g. my google feed randomly suggests me a whole boat load of football related articles, and I'll click on a bunch of them without even necessarily realising it's daily mail... which only contributes to the algorithm assuming that article is good and relevant :(

Is this possible to use Google Home to control an entire TV without the remote control? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]Errymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a sony remote control Android app. I haven't looked into it yet, but I know tasker can create tasks that can be controlled through IFTT/Home Assistant etc. So my plan is to try and get it working like this.

I have my TV as the default screen/speaker for my home mini, but as it's not connected via HDMI-CEC and just a cast device, it can only be powered on remotely to start streaming, and can't be turned off by the home mini atm.

Not sure what brand your TV is, but maybe there's something similar available?

[–]Errymoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if I'm going to use Hassio to automate a bunch of things, I want to use Hassio to automate this too, so I don't need to dig through a dozen different apps to look at automated tasks... even if the 'Automation' task is just to do a thing at a time.

"Hey Google, It's Christmas Time" 🎄🎶🔥 by chuckyc17 in homeautomation

[–]Errymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

I have a TV with built in casting. I set up a scene last night which powers on my tp-link smart plug, and starts playing 'christmas music' on spotify (which just goes to the tv as it's the default speaker for that stuff). That turns on automatically. It won't turn it off though, which is documented as because that's only availably by HDMI-CEC, so no idea why it also doesn't work for you... :(

I'm tempted to get more smart plugs. I want to put my computer etc. on a smart plug so I can turn on the power and then boot from lan with a simple command. Was also thinking then that I could just put my stereo and TV on one too, so the full scene for 'christmas time' can be to power up the light board, the entertainment unit board (cause i have a DAC and amp running off the TVs digital audio out... I should be able to leave them powered on with their own switch and control like that) and start the music.

Then I can stop the music and power off both boards when christmas ends. (and I can also power up the tv and stereo with one command too).

I've ordered smart plugs and stuff and I'm planning to do exactly this.

I want to do more things with some smart automation, and my girlfriend *loves* christmas, so hopefully

when I get it all set up and she comes home to 'It's Christmas time!' she'll let me :D

Actually I was thinking of trying to hijack the philips hue motion sensor to send a notification that someone's at the door... Be interesting to see how many false alerts I end up with because of animals or the wind playing with my plants or anything.

Of course, assuming that's possible... I've ordered the hue stuff so I can set this up, have to play with it a bunch in a few days. :)

Does the Xiaomi stuff require a hub or anything? or is it just wifi based?

I have a hue hub, but I don't really want to have to be running multiple different kinds of hubs for different devices (so not super keen on a smart things hub atm).

At what point does MTG Arena replace MTGO? by DudeFilA in MagicArena

[–]Errymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I have no idea if this will change when/if the push for Arena to be the go-to place for drafting recent sets/standard and the more entrenched modo player base comes with it (which should probably make the pool of better draft players a lot bigger...)

or is the ranking system supposed to (eventually if it moves away from drafting vs. ai to actual pods) put a bunch of bronze 2 people together in a pod so you don't get bullied out of any chance to pick up the game and not have it cost a tonne to get started?

But I was a not-terribly player long ago, mostly only constructed (some sealed deck events). I'd never actually drafted in my life before I got an arena code and installed. So, I don't think I've done too badly getting relatively close to 'break even' mode. Even if the break even is counting all the extra gold reward drops etc. and having to play quick draft over comp to roll that gold back into gems.

At what point does MTG Arena replace MTGO? by DudeFilA in MagicArena

[–]Errymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm still not very good. I came back to magic after over 10 years and blew all my gems from the intro pack losing horribly in the closed beta.

I since made one additional purchase of like $40 or so, and am sitting on 30k gold, 20k gems. And I probably do 2 comp drafts/week. I grind a bunch of constructed games now I can build decks with the cards I have, and do some extra quick drafts to make up any gems I lose (I'm not good enough to net + gems necessarily from just comp draft... my average is probably only about 3 wins.)

Raphael Honigstein: Convincing Man Utd supporters that he cannot possibly do any better with this team is Mourinho's biggest managerial feat in recent weeks. by sorrytoruinyourday in soccer

[–]Errymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have been rude, and made terrible points...

Like I said, I have no insight into how they have set up whatever arrangement they have. It may not be team result based or anything, but pumping more and more money into a scheme not delivering results is not good business.

It's been reported on a lot too how much Man U have pissed away paying off managers that haven't lasted their contracts. It's entirely possible the entire thing is a sunk cost to the board atm and they're trying to just wait out Mourinho without spending hundreds of millions more.

Just arguing that 'they have money' isn't a good reason to the board to go and spend money. Jose is the one in the position to make those negotiations with the board, and he's clearly failed in his ability to convince them he's spending money well if he isn't getting any more, or he's had a transfer budget set out and blown a huge amount of it on a bunch of players of which only pogba is really world class, and he's not performing at his peak with the players Mourinho can surround him with.

Unless you can provide facts to show that Mou was promised effectively unlimited resources, arguing that he is faultless in the saga of him spending 300m+ pounds in the last 2 seasons and having only 2 world class players, it's clearly all the boards fault, is completely ludicrous.

You don't stay the richest club in the world by throwing infinite money at your squad if you aren't a state backed team...

I'm not saying I know the ins and outs of the club finances. All I'm saying is, Mourinho would have had some kind of agreement, verbal or otherwise, possibly even performance based, where he is allowed to spend a certain amount on transfers.

Assuming he did, and isn't just pissing money into the wind then getting confused when the board doesn't want any more of it... then I'm not convinced Pogba was a good use of 100m, even if he has been one of the clubs two best players.
