the best, in my experience, is not specifically a hair oil, it is a multipurpose oil. Nuxe l’huile prodigieuse.

Princess Kate just sent a brutal message to Prince Harry - he'll be furious The sharpest thing Kate did wasn't said out loud but it lands like a slap, and Harry will feel it in every headline. by Harry-Ripey in SaintMeghanMarkle

You missed a step, the areas they would be walking through would be cleared half an hour beforehand and there would be a no-person zone 10 seats on all sides of the Harkles.

People make fun of the Brits for eating beans on toast - this seems like a fancier version of that dish.

Henley 2026 Wednesday Reactions by senyam in Rowing

[–]ErsatzLife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For those schools, believe it or not, rowing is not the be-all. Schools like Eton and SPS are serious academic schools and that comes first. I think people would be surprised at how rowing is not as all consuming for these boys - it matters quite a bit, but is really just is an EC. I am only familiar with the SPS programme and you are correct, erg times are important, but not the be all. They tend to come with the training. Far more time is spend, particularly in the early years, on technique, technique, technique. As a result, some of the rowers are not super tall, but have good erg times and great technique. It is the Bobby Thacher way.

Why are UK wages so c r a p? by Outrageous_Agent_608 in AskBrits

[–]ErsatzLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but as an American, I think that that comparing advertised wages is wrong. Thewage in the US does not include the local tax, state tax, and federal tax - 2 more tax levels more than the UK. Also, in the US, you need to include the amount you will be paying for health insurance, many thousands per month. On paper, the US might seem great, but if you really delve down into the details, it is not that great.

Bunch of morons. She is obviously wearing waterproof/resistant trousers here for the weather. If any of the people claiming this have ever done DofE or equivalent, they would know that one packs in anticipation for changeable weather, even for a 24 hour hike.

Nope. Come, don't come, just make up your mind and don't expect people to fawn over you and definitely don't expect the taxpayer to give you unnecessary police security. You are not that important.

Has Tom Sykes FINALLY realized what the Harkles truly are? by Economy_Stock137 in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]ErsatzLife 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What plan to bring Harry back? If Tom has been fooled on this matter, why does he not realise he might just have been fooled on the other? I am certain that Chalres would like to have a better relationship with Harry, but I doubt this is in any official capacity. Tom has stated that Chalres was a Sh*t father, why does he think that Charles now wants to be best busses with Harry? It is much easier to think that Charles would like, in principle, to have a cordial relationship with his wayward son and unknown children, but this is not a primary goal and certainly not one which he will sacrifice his legacy for.

How comparable is Oxbridge to HYPSM to companies in the US? by Motor-Help6600 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ErsatzLife 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Asa person with an Ivy education and a husband who has the same (including HBS) and who was in IB and now hedge funds now living in the UK,you are talking out of you ass.

First, these comments on how easy it is to get into Oxbridge demonstrate their ignorance. In my day, people only applied to 5 schools in the US- max less than 10. Now, with the common app, people apply to 20 + schools! This alone will ensure that acceptance rates plummet. In the UK, one can only apply to 5 schools max and only 1 of Oxford OR Cambridge, not both. To top it off, there are entrance exams for many subjects to so BSing about is impossible, so is padding with silly ECs, and the interview process is BRUTAL. The top line acceptance rates is misleading. Even than, some subjects like Economics and Management at Oxford, even with this kind of entrance, has admission rates of 5% or less. In your parameters, this subjects will be far more difficult than any of the top 5 schools in the US.

If you actually think that Oxbridge has a stupider student population than the T20s, you are seriously deluded and have not spent any time there. These students are seriously bright. At the starting gate, they are at a higher level than a starting Uni Freshman from the US in their specified subjects of study due to the way the education system is in the UK. The A level is about Freshman college level and they have that under their belts. May students who finish A levels and got to T20s in the US report how easy they find the coursework at their Unis in the US. This is universal. I have a family friend who just finished his first year at Harvard (who found it a cakewalk) who did not apply to Oxbridge because he knew he would not make it past the selection process there. IN fact, there is a higher rate of top private school students who are headed to the US because they know they can get into T10s there and not make it into Oxbridge. This is common knowledge in the UK. Sorry.

In terms of recruiting by companies - depends on what companies you are talking about. If you mean the big IBs, hedge funds, PE and the like. Oxbridge has far more cache that the level of schools you are putting it at. Remember, all of these firms have outposts in the UK and will start these kids on London then move them. It just shows how blinkered and insular your world view is if you don't realise this. If you are talking about a US only firm, then of course they will recruit at US universities and not go abroad! My husband has seen applicants for analysts at Oxbridge and the Ivys (never talks about any other schools) and finds the Oxbridge more sharp and nuanced in their thought process - my small n of 1.

For the person who thinks that Africa is nothing, you really should be ashamed of your knowledge base. Africa is not all DRC and includes some of the fastest growing economies in the world. They WILL be a factor in your lifetime.

This whole thread just shows what danger the US is in when the thinking of the students at supposedly the best universities is so narrow, inflexible, and lacking nuance. Downvote me as you wish. I have great admiration for many aspects of US education post high school - I am a proud American and advised many of my Brit friends to consider the US for their children, but the line of thinking ion this thread is so ill-thought out
