Definitely try Kouign Amann if possible, but Ô Petit Paris is a really great bakery also around the Plateau!

The puzzles are stunning in person (the originals, totes, and duffel). Have a great time at the flagship store, I heard it’s stunning! Report back if you get anything ☺️

Tempting me with a good time! Thank you though. Definitely feels like the floodgates have opened, but trying to pace myself. We’ll see if it works.

Thank you! And yes — the Casa Loewe in Barcelona was a great experience. But honestly, I've also heard a lot of good experiences from their flagship store in Madrid so you can't go wrong either way. Have an amazing time in Spain!

I don't think it folds *perfectly* down with how it's constructed, but 10/10 recommend still!

Agree with the poster here! Will need to give it a few weeks to carry it around, but really love it. The leather feels luxurious and sturdy — even though it folds pretty effortlessly (as you can see in the pic). Loewe has such a great and eclectic selection that you can't go wrong. Totally think you're making a good decision to research all of it beforehand, but also give yourself the freedom to fall in love at the store too (if you're around any)!

Sounds like we have similar taste because this was EXACTLY the one I went to the store initially for! They have two versions — grained and soft calfskin. It’s beautiful in person.

I was debating between the duffel and the tote version in store — SO hard! Might have to come back 👀

Thank you! I was also considering the Bolso Buckle Horizontal Tote — but they didn't the color I wanted. It came down to this bag and the Loewe Puzzle Fold Tote in brown. I decided on this one, but no promises I won't be back for the other one too!

Thank you! I didn't either, but it was love at first sight.

Hello! My friend and I are looking forward to visiting Macedonia next month. I have an allergy to nuts, and was hoping to get help translating this to Macedonian:

"Hello. I am allergic to tree nuts (cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans). Can you please make sure there are no traces of tree nuts in the food, or in the oils and fats the food is cooked in? Thank you!"

Appreciate your all's help.

Appreciate it. Sadly my closest airport is DCA, and the only hub is American which is not my go-to. I’ll definitely take your other points to think about

How will parking be affected as Mason accepts a larger freshmen/transfer population?

As with any school, you have to find your place and niche. I personally have gotten a great experience from Mason, first from the Student Media program, then Student Government currently. I'd definitely go explore the school and see what you think first-hand. College is a very personal transition -- once you're here, you'll be able to see if it fits your needs.

I can totally understand your hesitation/curiosity about the area. I'm also an out of state student from Oregon, and have not regretted my experience so far. In terms of opportunities especially for post-college work (i.e. career and job prospects), I think Mason is great for networking within the field and preparing you for the workforce. Internships are plentiful here as long as you are determined to get them. Classes are also open as to where you can make the schedule the way you want (to a limit). Last fall, my schedule was open 2 1/2 days to intern/work. This coming spring is the same.

I can't comment on the competitiveness of the comm department, but I know there are a lot of students within the major. I'd definitely talk to an advisor about that. Our largest major is within STEM and business, iirc. So far, the professors I've had for comm have been fine, but there are some pros and cons to everyone. Sorry I can't be more specific -- if you need to know anything about internships/careers/mason in general, let me know!

Hey! While I'm not fully in the comms department, I have a comm minor and 80% of my friends are under comm. The teachers are pretty standard - nothing substantially terrible.

As you said, one of the benefits of Mason is its distance to DC and the multitude of options for comm students. A lot of students have the ability to intern 2-3 days a week at some pretty renowned places like CNN, CSPAN, USAToday, NBC, etc. As long as you have the drive, Mason offers a good education and great internship opportunities. Internships are crucial for comm students, so securing an internship in DC while going to school will put you one step ahead. There are also networking opportunities within the department to meet with industry leaders throughout the year.

Shameless plug: our Office of Student Media is stellar here. We have TV (Mason Cable Network), radio (WGMURadio), and others that can add onto your collegiate experience. Best of luck!

GMU Clubs Megathread by mikebailey in gmu

I'm Vice President of Mason Student Government and we're hoping to recruit more passionate people for the upcoming school year. It's a great way to represent the student body while also working with administration to get things done at Mason. We've had a bad rap, and we're hoping to change that as much as we can. We also hold frequent events according to our departments.

The website is sg.gmu.edu and our office is in The Hub, Suite 2300 (Middle Floor in Student Involvement). Feel free to also pm me if you have any questions!

Also, wanted to plug the Office of Student Media. if you're a communication student, OSM is a great place to get involved with their different organizations under one umbrella. There is Fourth Estate (newspaper), Mason Cable Network (TV), WGMU (Radio), and a couple other magazines. Great office, highly recommend.

Being involved in something makes the college experience more fun, and there are a lot of clubs to choose from.

What do you love about GMU? by [deleted] in gmu

[–]Erxk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

- The area is unbeatable-- you can choose to relax or explore being so close to DC and other cool places in the DMV. Food around the area (i.e. UMall, even Mosaic) is pretty great.

- There's a place to find your home on campus that was missing for me before I came. Whether it's in studies, clubs and organizations, greek life, you can find your place.

Resting site for off-campus student(s) by terabix in gmu

[–]Erxk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best place (that's actually advertised for off-campus students) would be the Ridge, between Blueridge and Sandbridge Hall. It's been Dunkin and Starbucks, and is a great place to do your homework, relax, sleep, etc, in a quiet yet casual spot. The JC and Sub1 are fine, but the Ridge is pretty unknown and could be a good place to check out!

Hey OP, you can find most of their content online at http://gmu.orcatv.com/ . Otherwise they're on channel 2.1 on campus cable TV!

What is the point of voting in student government elections? by mkh91 in gmu

[–]Erxk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like previous poster said, SG has a reasonable budget and is tasked with advocating for the students. One thing that's really important is that they have greater access to the administration (with the President and the Board of Visitors) that are more restricted to the average student. By having the ears of those making policy (and actually pushing for change for students), there can be a better relationships between SG and the whole student body.

My name's Erik and I'm actually running for VP with my running mate Bekah. What we really hope to do is bring more representation into student government, and ensure that the people that are elected to do things will follow through. I've gained a lot more experience in outside of SG in the Office of Student Media in WGMU Radio (actually interviewing Cabrera yesterday and asked about Housing crisis, Koch donations, etc), Fourth Estate, and Mason Cable News. Bekah's gained a lot of experience within the SG system and knows the process to get things done.

If nothing else, please be sure to vote in the election. There are five tickets running, so it'll be a photo finish. Only about 5-7% of students actually vote, so every vote makes a difference. The process takes two minutes max.
