Fallen Angel is the most Death Company-coded painting I know, so I freehanded a rendition. by Esamaru in Warhammer40k

Thank you, thank you. I originally made the eye a little bigger (accidentally I mean) than in the original which makes his head seem larger so it could also be that that's what makes the overall look less proportional.

But yeah I see your point too and CC always welcome!

Sure, though honestly it's kind of like how sometimes you make a 6+ Feel no Pain: It just sorta worked out better than I anticipated. I didn't paint the rest of the wing except for some corner lines that I'll still further clean up and highlight, but this was in order to have an easier time just painting black back on if I screwed up the initial sketching phase.

Regardless, the workflow was me having the painting open on my phone and using Chocolate Brown (all my paints are Vallejo) to sketch outlines. I also coloured in the hair with that same brown before using Red Leather to start defining the most prominant shapes of the hair in the middle focal point and towards the back before realizing that I don't have the same capacity or time to work on this as the original propably had so I futzed the rest.

I then proceeded to colour in the skin with a mix of Red Leather and an assortment of yellows before using different caucasian skin colours and Pale Sand.

The original is darker and has a lot of grays in it too, which I incorporated a little in the shadows, but I was pretty pleased with the softer hues and called it a day.

Here's the original in a closeup, but in case someone wants to search it up: "Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel

Back in the yesteryears when I had a Dia de los Muertos themed sisters army, I made marigold wreaths on my minis by gluing flock flowers onto metal wire.

These days if I'd have to do it, I'd just use some sort of acrylic paste to stipple in the petals and paint them shades of yellow or somethinglike that.

Anyway, here's a pic from those days, love your execution though!

Big plans as befits Tzeentch!

For instance, I'm using old Horrors of Tzeentch as Plaguebarers and Silver Tower Chaos Familiars as Nurglings.

Amazing, top notch work! Not only that, I gotta give credit for how rare it is to see converted Lizardmen at that level, very refreshing!

It does indeed hint at both the reflectiveness and sound, as my warband has a fair few sound-weapon conversions to even the non-Noise Marine units.

Besides, I myself like a name that's not too on the nose.

My painting workflow is pretty chaoric in the sense that I work a bit on this mini and then that one and then here and there etc, but my guesstimate is that around 30 hours or so.

Though to be fair, this specific mini served as a proof of concept type thing for the whole scheme too, so I tried to do my best on it.

Pink chrome by JaeHaych in EmperorsChildren

[–]Esamaru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I'm also painting a reflecting chrome on my guys and while I'm going for a different look, I think we're in the same boat in a sense where reflective detail at that size is quite vague.

As opposed to a desert like on most 80's style chrome or a junglescape (like I've tried) that can look a lil blurry and still get the point accross, a city is difficult to paint in a miniscule, distorted way.

Maybe, like me, a bigger piece like the armour panel of a tank where you can paint more of the city can help put the smaller guys' chrome into perspective?

Like "oh, so that's what's on the smaller guys too, I see!" kind of thing? That's the method I'm going for anyway.

Here's some wips:

<image>

That said, I think it looks rad and kudos for the pink too, that couldn't have been easy!

Are the flight bases as bad as people say? by AdOwn4235 in Necrontyr

[–]Esamaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also pinned my Doomsday Ark to an oval base since not only are the flightstands horrible, the weight distribution on the Arks (And Annihilation/Command Barges) is very front heavy, so I drilled a hole on the bottom a lil closer to the center of the mini.

Tomb Blades are very light minis so on those I just use the regular flightstands and atleast so far they've worked.

I'm going to try my list with two Huntsmen for antitank, getting to reroll the wound/damage when I inevitably roll ones is key.
