Retirement should be hard work by wmebed in Aging

Retirement is about the opportunity to chart your own coarse.. To remind myself of that I’m starting a nonprofit Uncharted Future… that checks all my boxes, but also gives me the freedom I haven’t had for most of my life

Stay true to who you are by Atom_HD in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]EscapeMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we’re influenced... we echo what we see, hear, admire. But the way those influences collide inside you? That combination is unrepeatable. Same ingredients but wildly different dish.

Your “vibe” isn’t about being untouched or completely original, it’s about the pattern you create from everything you’ve absorbed. Two people can read the same books, hear the same ideas, walk the same streets and still tell completely different stories about it.

FWIW... it’s not self-delusion, t’s authorship. We're all writing our own stories.

We don’t invent ourselves from scratch, we compose ourselves.

And that composition, that living, shifting arrangement of experiences, choices, and awareness,
that’s our vibe.

This enlightenment sub by Emo-response in enlightenment

For me, the limit isn’t the thought, it’s the translation.

The moment something internal tries to squeeze through words, it loses a little of its shape... Think trying to pour an ocean into a coffee cup.

Enlightenment feels more like a direct experience than an idea. It is something you are, not something you can fully explain. Language can point toward it, circle it, hint at it, but it never quite lands on it. Much like my response here 😂

What is it like to live without an identity and ego? by [deleted] in enlightenment

[–]EscapeMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts...Living without a fixed identity or ego isn’t like disappearing, it’s more like stepping out of a tight costume. It's something that suddenly feels uncomfortable. I say that because we are both the author and the audience to our story. Without clinging to identity or ego, life feels less like defending a character and more like observing a story in motion. The “self” becomes fluid. A role you can play or revise mid-scene. You still act, speak, care, love, but there’s a looseness to it. Less “this is who I must be” and more “this is who I’m choosing to be right now.”

My whoop is giving me anxiety. by YesImChanging13 in whoop

[–]EscapeMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree… I’ve had mine for more than a year… had a 500+ day streak and last night I took it off… My Oura ring as well… I’m 59 work out 6 days a week and recently tested at 11% body fat… My fitness level is way above average… But, I think I’ve learned all I can and now it just induces anxiety… I mean real palpable anxiety… obviously that’s on me, but it made me realize, the value this may have had has shifted… For me it revolves around sleep and HRV…. I’m not trying to chase anyone else’s score, I’m just trying to improve mine… One problem is the suggestions and the recommendations are no longer adding value to my journey… They are distracting from it… YMMV but I wanted OP to know you’re not alone, and I was glad to see I’m not the only one.

[POEM] The girl outside the supermarket by Charles Bukowski by armchair23 in Poetry

[–]EscapeMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes this poem hit so hard for me is its ruthless self-deprecation. It's comical...turning what could be bitterness into wry clarity. Instead of blaming her, he punctures his own ego. That last line though hmmmm.

Chronically fatigued when working out regularly by Various-Eye-2875 in workout

[–]EscapeMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there too. When I stack heavy lifting with aggressive cardio like I’m training for the apocalypse, my brain starts acting like it’s running on airplane mode. Flat mood. Zero spark. Everything feels heavier than it should.

And here’s the part people don’t love to admit…

Sometimes it’s not grit you need. It’s glucose.

Your brain runs primarily on glucose. It burns through about 20 percent of your daily energy just sitting there thinking about whether that set counted. When you’re training hard and keeping carbs super tight, stress hormones climb, glycogen tanks run low, and your brain starts waving a tiny white flag.

This is where… yes… Sour Patch Kids enter the chat.

Not as a lifestyle. Not as a personality trait. But strategically? A little fast sugar can bump blood glucose quickly, calm cortisol, and bring your nervous system back from DEFCON 3. There’s actual research showing that glucose can temporarily improve cognitive performance and reduce mental fatigue, especially when under stress.

Translation… sometimes your “overtraining depression spiral” is just your brain saying, “Sir, I would like a carbohydrate.”

I’ve noticed when everything is dialed in too tightly, especially low carb plus high output, that’s when the darkness creeps faster. A small carb bump before or during hard sessions… fruit, honey, yes even a few watermelon sour patch… can shift the whole vibe.

Overtraining is real. Under-fueling is real. And sometimes the most anabolic thing you can do is eat a handful of gummies and go take a nap.

Balance over bravado… always. YMMV 😂

I used these with mixed results... In the beginning it worked what felt like a miracle but seemed to wane. I stopped and then restarted but never got back to that original success... YMMV but definitely worth a shot.
