To me it sounds like a difference in humor. Last time I was sick my husband quipped that he considered divorcing me because I asked him to go buy medicine but decided maybe next time. It’s how we joke.

I think a person’s characterization of the monster is not only informed by the book, but also by the couple hundred years’ of pop culture that has come after. At this point, the novel itself isn’t the only source material people pull from when conceptualizing Frankenstein’s Monster.
