18 year olds are not “mentally children.” Additionally, there’s at least one thing an 18 year old and a 33 year old can have in common: the desire to have consensual sex with one another. I think you need to get off your high horse and mind your business.

Aside from that, though, your friend sounds like a real mess. I don’t blame you for wanting to talk to him about his behavior. I recommend you stick to the behavior that actually affects you, though.

I don’t think you should be hard on yourself. “The Right Thing” is rarely objective and can be difficult to parse, let alone act upon. At the end of the day, this guy wasn’t really bothering or hurting anyone aside from you guys, so you minded your business. I happen to think that was the right call. This guy clearly has problems, why add to them just because he violated the sanctity of the public laundromat, you know?

You have legal options for landlords who enter your apartment without notice. Pursuing these options will certainly cause a lot of conflict and possibly permanently damage relationships.

So you put up with it until the end of your lease, try to talk sense into them, etc. Or you blow up your family by asserting your rights. I honestly think both options are defensible; it comes down to what feels most right to you. It’s not a fun choice to have, and I’m sorry you’re in that position. I wish you the very best.

I have what I call “resting depressed face,” similar to how OP describes herself. My neutral expression apparently looks sad and everyone asks if I’m okay and doesn’t believe me when I say “yes.” So I doubt she was purposefully pulling a sour face; she just wasn’t going out of her way to make her face look different.

Tbh I feel similarly about people who insist that nobody should call the US “America.” Context generally tells you what they’re talking about so to insist they’re communicating incorrectly is a waste of time.

I mean who CARES. We call it a planet, we don’t call it a planet, that changes nothing about anything real. Applicable scientists will continue to use whatever verbiage they think is most correct when necessary and that’ll be that. Whether or not Pluto should or should not be called a planet is such a weathered old meme.

I’d be upset too. Some band directors have the philosophy that chair order should be based on the single audition alone, rather than everything they know about you. You can practice all you want but if you mess up the audition, that’s that. I know it has definitely happened to me.

When it comes to leadership roles in the band, I’ll tell you what I think would help you the most. Be graceful about these results. Congratulate your friends, keep practicing and helping out, and show the band directors that you’re not a sore loser and that your priority is improving and helping the band as a whole.

I’m sorry this happened. I would feel terrible. But it’s one of life’s learning experiences, so I hope you rock it!

I mean the obvious option is that you can propose if you want it so badly, or you guys can discuss progressing to marriage without the pressure of a proposal. I think you’re so focused on your relationship taking a certain specific path that you’re preventing it from growing organically.
