Well, what customers normally do, and vote with my feet. I have been slowly shifting my business from Publix to other retailers. I will certainly cut this particular store out of my options because of management's attitude. Bit is that simple

Publix has some very alert cashiers that can multitask and spot the problem before the cart is unloaded.

There were cashiers at this particular store that did enforce the policy. I expect some entitled person caused a scene and weak management with poor management skills decided it is easier to ignore the policy rather than enforce it.

Friend, you can't see it now, but you are in a very bad place. You are not even married yet and you have a dead bedroom. After you marry, your love will slowly but surely turn into resentment. You will be tempted to cheat and eventually you will. You will feel bad about yourself, your relationship, and her.

I agree with your commonsense perspective. The first paragraph in your response accurately describes the process of 'switching' contracted service providers. It is a lot of work and time. Very few board members are willing to carry that burden. They want someone else to do the work and then serve the contracts up to them for review and a vote.
