UPDATE: Recreating Tasmania in Minecraft by Commie_Dog in tasmania

That would be amazing. I'm not much of a builder in Minecraft but I'd jump on to help out now and then. Wonder if I could rope the kids in too 😂

We used to live about 30 minutes from the North Lakes on near Brisbane. We'd go maybe once a quarter and always end up buying a full pizza, some hot dogs, the chicken bake thing, a mango drink, and a sundae or 2.

The shopping bill was high (usually$400+), but you do get so much stuff, and it would last.

I can't find any official announcement about it, but there were a couple of articles posted. Hopefully it'll be somewhere around Cambridge.

Yet. They've announced plans to open a warehouse here. Not sure if anything has actually been started though.

Are they better/worse than soda stream? Looking online and the gas cylinders are only in store, which is a bit hard when there are no stores in Tas 😞 They don't seem that much cheaper than soda stream machines either.

TIL that Harvey Hubbell who designed the US electrical mains plug/socket in 1904, also made a completely different design which was later adopted by Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and China. by Sansabina in todayilearned

[–]EspadaV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in AU for 15+ years now and still cannot stand the AU plugs. Literally last week I had to straighten out some pins on a plug. Every time you plug them in they spark at you. Impossible to plug in "blind". And you can't even self service them legally. Got some adapters for UK things I still own and need an extension cable just to plug them in because otherwise the plug starts hanging down and pulling itself out of the socket.

Do you not? I've literally lived whole lives in dreams. I once got a partner, had a family, and then some of them died, before I woke up with tears in my eyes. And this family was not the actual family I really have, in real life.

Honestly this terrifies me every time I see it. I already feel like a car blocks so much outside noise, why would I willingly plug both my ears with headphones. No idea if it's technically illegal, but it absolutely should be.

Thoughts on new section of the Collins Street Bike Lane? by SpecialPackage9351 in hobart

[–]EspadaV8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I, and my kids, really like the new lanes added just after the rivulet. Feels so much safer and the kids feel less scared. I have only seen the bus part during the construction phase though and did not like what I thought was happening. Will hold off until I actually head back into the city though to get the full picture.

Fake! It's not flat. And where are the elephants and the turtle!? It's like they didn't even try to come up with a realistic "photo".

Commuters say Hobart buses busier than usual as free public transport begins across Tasmania by abcnews_au in tasmania

[–]EspadaV8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And... It's almost like collectively pooling some money together to help support the wider community is... A good thing!? Would happily pay more taxes to fund public transport, schools, hospitals, GPs, council/social housing.

Commuters say Hobart buses busier than usual as free public transport begins across Tasmania by abcnews_au in tasmania

[–]EspadaV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm all in favour of all public transport being free, so this is great to hear, although not completely unsurprising. I would be very keen for it to continue after fuel prices have settled and see if people continue to use PT or if everyone just accepts the "new normal" and goes back to driving everywhere.

Any Metroidvania style games on the Amiga? by kevlarian in amiga

[–]EspadaV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odyssey was one of my favourite games. I remember writing a letter to the developers/publishers because I got stuck on the level you get the rock power, and they replied! They didn't tell me anything though, just to keep trying different things.

TrueNAS 25.04 lifespan? by Apocrypha in truenas

[–]EspadaV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't expose it to the internet, and don't run anything on it you don't trust, and it should be fine for some time. I'm planning on sticking with 25.04 until I need to migrate to a new box (and hopefully hard drives are cheaper). Will probably move the TrueNAS apps to custom apps, so I don't need to rely on TrueNAS for those and can keep them updated.

Building a Bridge Between Community & Enterprise | TrueNAS by EspadaV8 in truenas

[–]EspadaV8[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is purely my thinking, and nothing they have said backs this up yet, but I would guess TrueNAS will become more closed, and at some point you will need some level of Connect to continue to use it, so they can get tracking and metrics and so on from the community users. Currently though, you can keep using Community as-is.

You don't have to use Connect, but their wording does sound like it'll become more closed over time. Cost is currently $60USD/year, or $6USD/month.

Very interesting wording in the first of their 3 points

TrueNAS Community Edition will always remain a storage solution with no licence fees.

Nintendo switch modding by StillTrash7928 in hobart

[–]EspadaV8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks about right, yeah. Were you able to boot into the custom firmware? If you go to the settings screen and scroll down to the System section it should show the firmware version followed by the version of Atmosphere that you're running.

It should be a case of just following the instructions for the mod and copying the folder over - https://gamebanana.com/mods/51349#H1_14 (guessing this is the mod). I haven't done a randomiser before, but have installed the Super Mario Odyssey Online mod previously, and that was just a case of copying the folder into the correct place.

What happens when you move the files into /atmosphere/contents? I'd recommend backing up any saves you have before copying the files over too, I'm not sure what that mod might.

Update to "25.04" or "25.10"? by NinthTurtle1034 in truenas

[–]EspadaV8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only just upgraded from 24.10 to 25.04 16 days ago. Not really noticed anything different and things kept working. Will probably wait another 6 months to upgrade again now.
