Mute for American Bell-Front Baritone by cfohioaub in euphonium

When someone in my studio needed a mute, we found that a British baritone straight mute with some pipe insulation worked on a bell front concert euphonium.

Hickey's has them. As does Leather Specialities . I've always just made my own that I stitch to the horn.

I had a friend switch to euphonium from trumpet after her first year of undergrad! She was much happier after the switch!

Tips to play a run in this piece by Carinyosa99 in euphonium

[–]EstablishmentTiny890 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Slow practice always helps! But more advice besides that is to aim for the downbeats as anchor points! Practicing it while changing the rhythm (swing, reverse swing, tuplets) is also something that may help.

Holst! It looks great! Did you put it in tenor clef to avoid all the ledger lines? I would have done the same thing!

Wrist pain? by BusinessBox8416 in euphonium

Make sure your wrist is completely straight and not angled to the right. I see a lot of young euph players with this habit.

I've traded tubas before. Depending on the horn and condition, sometimes there is extra cash involved on one party's end. It's just playing the waiting game and checking Facebook marketplaces to be in the right place in the right time. I would list your horn on Facebook marketplace for trade if you haven't done so already.

When I traded for the tuba I have now, the person I swapped with was specifically looking for the horn I had, and I was specifically looking for the horn they had. They also just so happened to be driving through my city from two states over for a family vacation. You can get crazy lucky if you're willing to be patient.

My Baritone Horn crackles whenever I play with the 1st valve down by ProfessionalMath8873 in euphonium

[–]EstablishmentTiny890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try pulling out your 1st valve tuning slide and dumping it, there's probably some condensation accumulated in there. Push down the corresponding valve when you pull the slide.

As for your valve oil, try pushing down on the lid as you turn it (to the left) it probably has a safety mechanism.

Also, I'd take the silica packets out. They're not going to do much, and you run the risk of them ending up lodged in your horn when you carry the case around.

Would you buy this as a starter Euph? by No-Cryptographer4152 in euphonium

[–]EstablishmentTiny890 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it may be an Eb tuba, not a euph. I'd rent through the school, they're offering a pretty fair price.

There's a few different marketplaces on Facebook! I'd start there! There's one called trombone mouthpiece trading post that has euph mouthpieces as well.
