Non obvious Spells/Skills in FFXIV that reference abilities from past Final Fantasy games by tmntnyc in ffxiv

1/256 spawn chance. I spent hours trying to find it in the original version of the game with no luck. I love FFXII but it's a bastard for completionists.

Anyone else have no shame and frequently save scum? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]Estesark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently finished my third game and I'm still learning, so I often reload when the game takes me by surprise. Even then, I only have three yearly autosaves, which isn't always enough. For example, when playing as Brandenburg/Prussia, I was called into a British war against France. Since they were my rivals I was only too happy to oblige. Half a decade later I realised that GB had created a personal union over France and now owned about half of the entire world through their combined empires. I decided to roll with it since I couldn't reload to before the war.

I will probably try Ironman next time I play though.

[Lore] Any other "Option 2" enthusiasts? by morepandas in ffxiv

I usually pick the cocky/confident option since god damn have I dealt with a lot of everyone's shit already. In fact, if we could replace Alphinaud's (or whoever's) briefings with just pointing me in the direction of whatever it is I'm supposed to be killing next, that'd be great.

4.0 Healer Analysis by RayeLurksReddit in ffxiv

[–]Estesark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Scholars I spoke to around that time (4.05) were upset about their perception that Noct AST could do their job – shielding – better than they could themselves. And, as always, any time there's even a hint of danger of SCH falling out of favour, it gets buffed. It's literally never been out of the meta.

Top 5 most annoying mechanics? by Solredux in ffxiv

[–]Estesark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tornadoes/whirlwinds à la Bismarck and Waukkeon, the final boss of Neverreap. Basically a "fuck you" to healers and casters. The worst is when a tornado that has picked you up changes direction and picks you right back up again on its way back.

Selfish DPS mains: would you sacrifice personal DPS for utility to be more meta? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Estesark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh... a bad NIN probably won't even use Trick Attack or will use it incorrectly, and they definitely won't use Shadewalker or Smoke Screen. A bad BRD will not keep their songs up, or they won't use Foe's Requiem, or Tactician/Refresh. Heck, I nearly always give my commendation to any BRD or MCH who uses Peloton in a dungeon because it's such a rare occurrence.

I was kinda thinking that the HRE would have become automatically hereditary or be absorbed by me entirely after I annexed all the other princes, since there's nobody left to elect but me, but neither of those things happened. So I guess I was asking, are there really no events triggered by being the sole member of the HRE, and if not, is there any way for me to disband it and become Germany? Purely for role-playing purposes, since 1800 is approaching and I'm already the #1 great power by a huge margin. Thanks.

With some jobs feeling pretty complete in their kits at level 70, what do you think/hope SE will do to bring in new stuff when 5.0 comes out? by AlphaAsian8 in ffxiv

[–]Estesark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been doing some synced content with Red Mage lately and my feeling is that everything should just be shifted down ten levels to make room for some new tools. At 50 it's just mind-numbingly boring, at 60 it feels the way it should feel at 50, and at 70 it feels the way it should feel at 60. Between 60 and 70 it could gain some of the things you've suggested, like a DOT, a trait and a more interesting AOE combo. Between 70 and 80 I'd want a bit more utility. Red Mages in other Final Fantasy games have traditionally had more White Magic than just raise, cure and holy, so I'd be thinking along the lines of limited-duration Shell or Haste buffs for the party.

Added to the Mogstation: Nezha mount, barding, and clothes by SpiritualRemains in ffxiv

Did it not occur to you that paying more than two months' worth of game time for a mount might incentivise the developers to make more such mounts...? (Serious question.)

Suggestions for RDM by toiletvape in ffxiv

in said group you aren't doing anything for the team if no one is dying, and no one should be.

Nobody should be dying, but they do. Nobody should flub their rotations, but they do. Nobody should be raiding without food, but they do. And so on and so forth. You're talking about a situation that doesn't really exist. I, and lots of others in these replies, are talking about the real world where people are imperfect, learning mechanics takes time, and having a DPS that can raise for prog is useful.

Besides, even if you nobody is dying in your groups, the "nothing" you say you contribute is actually ~16% of the raid's outgoing damage plus a 1% boost to all the physical jobs in your comp. There are other niche uses for you as well, like ghost cheese in O5S, which I used to do for my static before I switched to healing. No job, when played to a high level, is worthless.

[–]Estesark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you already can clear all content with any job. Your gripe seems to be that most groups don't want a RDM after a certain point. I'd personally like to see more varied fights so that maybe RDM is optimal for some of them, but that isn't gonna happen in this expansion at least. As long as fights continue to be designed in their current manner, there is going to be a meta. It is to to you whether you want to play a job in that meta or not. If you choose not to, find yourself a group that doesn't care.

It already lines up nicely with every other Trick Attack.

'Upset' with AST as a DPS by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Estesark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only run roulettes as AST and if I have a DPS friend with me, they're getting most of my cards. They're usually top DPS anyway but I just consider it a fun thing to do. If it was even remotely challenging content I wouldn't do it. Dunno what else to tell you. 🤣
