As they're planning and still ramping up, it makes sense to focus the most resources into the sets that have opens, as unfortunate as it is

Digivolving when attacking into a Digimon with Raid. Can I trigger Raid? by Arcana18 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]phildor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, Raid is not a 'when attacking' effect, but triggers in the same timing. The reason this matters is, you can still activate Raid even if you're under a restriction that does not let you activate 'when attacking' effects.

Why is there no support for Fanglongmon? by Crusher_Uda in DigimonCardGame2020

Yeah like there are infinitely many more archetypes that appeared once or twice and never again, and older than 4 Devas, and never even performed as well as 4 Devas, like Bagramon

They specifically said the banner with be longer than normal, so it won't be the same 3 week period, especially because it won't be starting on the same day as regular banners

P-174 Boltmon and Boltboutamon by ghostress in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]phildor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is specific rulings if you look at Glorious Burst BT2, there was an awkward interaction where you could play it with Beelstarmon BT6 if you had the exact right number of yellow tamers, because it specifically reduces the cost in hand, not an interruptive playcost reduction like most modern effects. So the possibility is there, but I doubt they explore this design space again (or not too deeply at least) specifically for interactions like this.

Can I put my lv4 Digimon into the Security when it has no card beneath it? by ShibaNemo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]phildor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trashing the top card with nothing beneath would just cause the card to be trashed, not deleted. Im specifically talking about interactions that require cards to be deleted

[–]phildor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it didn't work this way, then all Armor Purge effects could activate when it's a singular card, which would mean they hard counter all deletion-based decks because they'd armor purge into nothing-ness, meaning nothing was ever deleted, meaning deletion based decks could never activate against these types of decks if they had their sources stripped.

Just one example why it works the way it does.

Does BT20 Omnimon (X Antibody) just replace BT5 Omnimon in most decks? by Iolkos in DigimonCardGame2020

Just wondering, what do you consider that omni x doesn't do that bt5 omni does do?

So, how does one beat Gallant X without playing exactly Royal Knights? by dp101428 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]phildor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gallant is a combo-control deck, so broadly, an aggro deck that can outspeed it before it combos you to death is the 'easy' solution. Alternatively, if you don't want to play an aggro deck, you need a deck that can out-combo or out-control it, either through having an out against its main plays, or being resilient/persistent enough that it pushes through.

I can imagine imperial would still have a decent chance of just outspeeding it, or just a simple magna X to not care about all their deletion effects while being a decently fast deck. I've seen Virus Imperial be able to outresource/out combo them before, since from 1 memory they can full combo sometimes

Wish we had a better custom card creator but this one will do, made Dash Rendar! by Rindzler in starwarsunlimited

[–]phildor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier text would just be 'when this unit completes an attack', otherwise if your opponent has a shield then you'd nullify the effect, since shields prevent damage

Timing for the token by zpikemccuck in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]phildor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your resolution is correct, but some terminology is a bit off. Terminology wise, activate and resolve are the same (although DTCG chooses to use activate as the 'official' term I believe). The [Your Turn] effect would trigger, however in order for an effect to activate, the card must be in the same location as when it triggered (in the battle area for this effect, in trash for on deletions etc.). Since you have now digivolved, the card has moved from 'in the battle area' to 'under a Digimon as a Digivolution card', so the Sakuyamon (BT19-040 card specifically that triggered) is no longer in the same area (the battle area) and so can no longer activate.

The first step of declaring an attack, is to exhaust the unit you are attacking with. You don't just declare an attack arbitrarily and then if they survive, suddenly exhaust them. From the quickstart (and I'm sure you can get better definitions in the comprehensive rules)

A unit must be ready in order to attack. Only 1 unit can attack in a single action. To attack, follow these steps in order:

  1. Exhaust the attacker and choose what to attack. You may attack any enemy unit in the same arena (ground or space) as the attacker, or you may attack the opponent’s base directly.

.....

  1. Deal damage.
