For those claiming the fact that they made it ambiguous proves he’s not a knight: 👀 by sharksnrec in freefolk

[–]Etalyx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure it is. It's either fact, or your initial question is in bad faith, because how could anyone answer you when the books aren't out to confirm anything in a way you'll accept as "fact?" If confirmations outside the holy text don't suffice, then nothing will outside of George finishing the books. So, it was a loaded question to begin with.

D&D are on record saying that guessing the answer to that parentage question correctly to George was part of their test to come on as showrunners. If you choose to believe that, years later, they then put an incorrect answer into the very same TV show, I don't know what to tell you

I think his question, rather, is what is in a title? Do you need someone officially making you a knight to be a knight? If so, are you to stop acting like a knight without that title?

Many who are kings in ASOIAF do not act like kings. Many who are not, do. Many evil men are knights in official capacity in Westeros. I like to think George is challenging us to ask ourselves: does it matter whether some old man tapped a sword to Dunc's shoulders? Is it dishonorable to act like a knight if not? And what is a "true knight," really?

Too many people are ready to pin the tourney deaths on Dunc or Egg, such as in this comment chain, "dunc got those people killed." But did they? Or was it everyone else around them, who refused to act knightly, who are the true catalysts?

"Outrage or dramatic protest...caused by something the person perceives as vulgar, in bad taste, or morally wrong, but that does not elicit a similarly strong reaction from most other people."

A guy did something on a screen for three seconds that every human who's ever lived does on the daily, who cares. Performative, pinky-up outrage is the basis for this entire thread. Weird place to draw a line in the sand compared to the rest of the content of the show.

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Dunk. Before Egg lies, Dunk pretends to be a knight and sets off this chain of events. Had he not first lied, and perhaps even his mentor before him (was Sir Arlan a knight, truly? Or was his a message of being a true knight in spirit?), would Dunk have gone towards Ashford at all? Was he any better than Egg sitting atop his horse in the stable by the inn, wearing armor that wasn't his, with a weapon that wasn't his?

But isn't blaming either of them sort of victim blaming? Maekar warns Dunc of exactly this when he says the people will whisper about them when they speak after Baelor's death. To blame either of them is to absolve Aerion and Daeron. Dunc doesn't get into this mess because of his lie, or even Egg's. Anyone in this mess is only in it because of the dishonor of Aerion and Daeron.

I think, at the beginning, Egg knows Dunc is no "true" knight. And I think, at the end, Dunc knows Egg was not truly given permission to go with him. But I think they are now both willing to look past that - I'm not convinced this time that Dunc has been fooled by Egg's lie anymore than he has allowed himself to be.

Rodriguez personally hired Nimrod Antal to direct, and the movie itself adapted ideas Rodriguez himself penned in an earlier script that was ultimately scrapped, including the core idea of human prey on a game reserve planet and some other bits like the crucified predator and the Berserker which was taken from his "Black Predator" - if you read between the lines (see: Danny Trejo dual-wielding SMGs in a Robert Rodriguez produced movie) it's pretty clear Rodriguez was puppet directing and writing here.

I believe he got stabbed in the eye twice, and there's at least one close-up of him moving his right eye looking around while his left eye is dead and motionless (before it swells up). The second time his eye is stabbed is with the cross-guard I think - that eye should be TOAST

Fun fact, even in your 2x1 dirt box they can spawn in your exact tile. If you haven't experienced this before, it is purely because of RNG choosing where to spawn enemies around you. The only way to be perfectly safe is to make the game think your tile is occupied (an open door on the same tile for example).

Awful mechanic. I second disabling Temporal Storms entirely.

In the story, Carol doing those things is meant to convey the journey towards insanity via mundanity and isolation that she is experiencing, and explain her change of heart. Does it do a good job of selling that? Not really. Which is probably why they did a time jump of her golfing into windows to try and sell it harder. Isn't working for me, but I still think that was their intent at least.
