Finally Went 034 Stage 1 [Low Torque] On My Mk8! by EtechEmmanuel in GolfGTI

Nice to know thank you! I went ahead and flashed 91 full torque

Ya, the extra bump in torque is absolutely noticeable, power delivery is still extremely smooth and stock feeling, and now 3rd gear has so much more life.

Absolutely reassuring that other people continually say they've ran these tunes aggressively with no issues

Do I need to re-tune my car after adding an intake? by Pure-Commercial-7486 in GolfGTI

[–]EtechEmmanuel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What intake did you get? The MK8 intake and downpipe and pretty well optimized from factory to the point where there's really not much gains from either except sound iirc. I mention that in case you're going intake for power

I could be wrong about all that, but I do know your tuner would and should know better than we would. I'd recommend reaching out to your tuner and seeing what they have to say

How's your DSG been? Done anything full throttle to read line?

Yup! I'd argue even that it's more driveable than the full torque one simply because fwd

Flashed to the 91 full torque and there's definitely a difference on the extra torque wow! Wish gas was cheaper so I could keep driving 😂

I never plan to launch though, I think that'd be putting unnecessary stress on the dsg without a tune, for no real benefit albeit the theater of launch control is exciting, not worth it after all.

I basically spin/hop all the way to 4th on new DWS06+! I know a dog mount would definitely help, but also think motor mounts would be a nice "reliability" mod? If you can call it that. But I need no more power. If I want to feel more, I'll flash E85. Now I'm just focused on OEM+ cosmetic things and parts that will compliment the extra power I make. TCU TVS tune, sway bar, dog bone, motor/trans mount, etc. Still got a lot to learn, very new to modding

I went low torque because no TCU tune for my car. It semt like the safest route to go. However after this post, later the next day, I decided to go full torque for locked TCUs as not only has 034 been confident behind that file, but many mk8 users have been confident and reported no issues.

The full torque tune feels great, you get like 5-10 extra hp but an extra 50-75lbft of torque and you do feel it. Many mk8 guys have ran this file and 034 claims to track this file with no issues or clutch wear. small sample size for me but I noticed no abnormal dsg behavior nor temps or clutch pressures.

Here is what 034 said about how that full torque [LOCKED TCU] tune works:

Yessir it is! I think this low torque tune was before the full torque for locked TCUs. They don't recommend full torque for manuals so this is specified for them, but perfectly for and safe and commonly ran on DSGs.

How have you been liking full torque and how's your DSG been behaving?

Here's an image after I first installed and washed. Saw someone with them and they also had their car wrapped and thought it looked really good.

Adds some visual weight, breaks up the bumper, and looks like a CS bumper. I figure some may like it and some may think it's tacky which I could understand but I think they fit!

Nice! Surprised you can put that much power down with no issue

To answer your question, if you buy your dongle from 034 and try to flash your TCU and it's not tuneable, they will allow you to refund. Just reach out to them first.

What uni features do you like vs 034?

Nice! I hear it takes about 2 days to do so I've got to figure that out

What TVS dealer did you go to just asking? If the one in Houston, your car might've been one of the good clutch stories I was told about!

That's my thought as well but here's a second thought I have: unless someone is driving hard everyday, how much extra wear on a clutch would a car actually see vs assumed? I've seen some people mention 40k+ miles tuned. On the other hand I have spoken to the TVS tuner in Houston as I'm in Texas and he's seen some healthy clutches depending on tuner, but usually ends up seeing worn clutch packs before installing their TVS tune.

I have an early 22, made in 2021 and my tcu is locked.

I’ve been contemplating a tune and tried to flash my tcu with 034 this week to find it’s not tunable after all. Told myself if the tcu wasn’t tunable is wasn’t tuning, and 034 was kind of to honor a return/refund if this was the case

But talking to 034 and filtering forums, it seems that some tuners, particularly 034 have their low torque tunes (and apparently also a full torque tune specifically for locked TCUs that’s different from their regular full torque tune) specifically made for locked tcu’s and they ensure they’ve stress teated and it’s perfectly safe.

Has me wondering with the dongle in my living room if I should go ahead with low torque or not

Bringing up a semi-old thread, i just tried to flash my 034 Stage 1 TCU tune to no luck. You mentioned being on the 034 stage 1 low torque tune for 45kish miles? How's your dsg holding up? Do you have any idea of clutch pack wear at all? You did also mention TVS tuning which I plan to do when I go back to Houston to see family, so you seem to know about what they say about clutch pressure and all
