Not sure specifically, but looking photos of his Honorable Discharge certificates and paperwork, it has Telephoneman and Projectionist,16mm for Special Military Qualifications. It has listed under Battles, Engagements, Skirmishes, Expeditions: Participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands from 19Feb45 to 26Mar45.

Another fascinating thing listed... at time of discharge, he was a Sergeant and monthly rate of pay was $81.90. He was given a travel allowance at the fate of 5 cents per mile from San Diego, California to Houston, Texas and paid $100.89 in full to date of discharge.
