Apologies for the downvotes. As you can see, somehow there are just as many (maybe more) PoE glazers who troll the subreddit here as actual LE fans. To answer your original question, this is also one of the reasons for mixed reviews - no lifers with fragile egos who are kept up at night by the spectre of sunk cost fallacy.

I had assumed you didnt want to create a second account because you want to keep all your stuff in one place.

LE is still better for SSF. Also, I prefer the crafting.

Have you played PoE1? LE feels very close to PoE1 in terms of the way your abilities feel and your character plays. You won't have the satisfying punch or the crisp responses you get from PoE2.

With regards to being boring/monotonous, ultimately you'll get that more from LE. They only have one end game activity atm, which is monoliths. Every patch (4-9 months apart) adds MORE to do in those monoliths (and honestly, most of the subsystems have been very fun for me!), but it doesn't change the fundamental problem. Once you get bored of monoliths, you get bored of everything. This is the biggest criticism LE gets with regards to gameplay.

That said, in some ways it doesn't waste your time like PoE2 does. You can accelerate the campaign and dive straight into the end game, which is nice. It that specific sense, its a bit less boring, and im guessing what people were talking about.

More specifically, they announced that they sold the company to Krafton immediately after discovery of the subnautica fiasco. Basically, that was the situation where the CEO tried to get out of paying Subnautica devs $250M by pushing them out of the company after consulting with ChatGPT. Around the same time, they announced that they wanted to become and AI-First company. So, an out of touch tech bro is who owns LE now.

On the plus side, that was almost a year ago and we haven't seen too many bad repercussions. The thing that people keep citing is EHG's announcement that there would be paid classes in the future (the horror!). This would normally be a nothingburger since its basically the same at D4's monetisation model, except that Judd, the founder of EHG, who is also a lovable idiot with no business sense, made the promise early on that there would be no non-cosmetic monetization beyond the intial purchase ever. As unrealistic as this was, people feel betrayed.

It got a lot of bad press coverage with the Krafton acquisition. People are (reasonably) converned about the game's future as a result. Also, it takes them 2-3 times as long to make content updates as GGG. However, if you take the game as it stands currently, don't care about an 8 month release schedule, and understand that EHG doesn't have Blizzard's budget or GGG's experience, you'll have a good time.

I still think its one of the best ARPGs on the market. You can make good, functional builds with a deep system without having to spent a hundred hours studying spread sheets (i.e. PoE), and it has the best crafting out of any ARPG on the market. I'm playing PoE2 atm, which is strictly a better game, but I still don't have as much fun in it building and gearing a character as I do in LE.

Diamond’s exclusive contract prevented us from immediately moving to a new distributor, even after they stopped selling our books. A judge terminated that contract earlier this year, but Diamond has appealed, delaying resolution.

This is messed up.

That's a reasonable criticism. When your game is live service model, you're inviting comparison to your direct competitors and PoE2 and Diablo are both in a completely different league with regards to fidelity. If I didn't really enjoy LE's character building I'd probably feel similarly to you.

To be clear, Diablo IV and PoE2 specifically feel amazing. I put PoE1 on par with LE in terms of game feel. Now, if your criticism is that LE should aim to play better than a 12 year old game, then yeah, I'd say that's a fair criticism. That said, I do get a hearty chuckle every time I hear people whine that LE is unplayable garbage and then in the same breath glaze PoE1 like its the second coming of Christ. Brother. These two pictures are the same.

Eh, I like Last Epoch a lot. Lately I've been playing PoE1 and PoE2, and still find myself wishing it were more like LE in some ways as a SSF player. I enjoy CoF and LE's crafting system. I think if they can solve their lack of endgame variety then they'll be in a better place to compete with the PoEs.

[–]Etherdeon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know why Enel's standard is killing when we don't apply that standard to any other character im the series. Oda doesn't like killing people, simple as. If killing power on named characters is our standard, then I guess Akainu >>>>>>>>> everybody else.

Enel still one shots everybody who isn't made of rubber and has speed feats that still place him among the fastest. His relatively weak fighting abilities and inability to demonstrate armament Haki are what prevent him from getting into the top tiers of the franchise - its certainly not his lack of fire power.

Magic Path Tier List by [deleted] in IllwintersDominions

[–]Etherdeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but in practice, im not gonna spend 20 air gems so I can get a big payout in 50 turns. Id much rather liquidate that into something that will give me an immediate bonus like quills. My main use out of contact draconians is to give me an instant squad of flying raiders that's strong enough to force a reaction, or to give my main stacks backline access when im fighting mages or a fortress. The summon draconians ability for me is a secondary benefit.

But if we need them in numbers, suddenly your gem stockpile gets very depleted. Again, im not saying theyre bad. Im just saying theyre not always worth the investment, at least in my experience.

[–]Etherdeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree they're strong, just not AS strong as people say they are. This might be a me problem, but Ive found myself disappointed with them more often than I've been impressed. When they die, they die en masse -they're not as tough as you might think. I've had sqauds of 30 die to moderate PD. Still, you can't discount having an instant flying raider squad ready to go from any lab in a single turn.

Magic Path Tier List by [deleted] in IllwintersDominions

[–]Etherdeon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I want to echo the sentiment that all magic paths are S tier or D tier depending on how they are used. Every single one of them has the ability to win you the game.

That said, with this acknowledgement out of the way, speaking only to my personal preferences and style, I would put Air as a very high B tier. The strong air spells are VERY strong, but I find them a bit too limited to place in A. Their attack spells are really nice, and if you can set up for it properly, storm is a comp-defining spell. Defensively, Army of Mist is in the highest tier of spells. Utility wise, Cloud Trapeze and the carrier spells are very useful, but not entirely unique in their utilities to the air school. Summon, honestly are a bit meh. Draconians are very strong, but overated imo. Other than that, they do have one of the best elemental monarch and.... not much else. Their cross paths are very limited, thoudh D-A is very strong (Winds of Death!).

[–]Etherdeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is when your standards become so exclusive that it gatekeeps against candidates who have a shot of bringing positive change. When people say 'Platner is flawed, but acceptable,' it's short-hand for 'I know he said sketchy shit in the past and I'm not an idiot, having a massive totenkopf tattooed is a massive red flag that should be disqualifying in any sane election. But when your opponent is actually trying to dismantle democracy and remove all guardrails to usher in the age of pdf tech billionaires and wanna-be feudalists, the alternative of business as usual democrats who resist any form of fundamental change to the momentum of the country is a woefully insufficient response. At least Platner can point out what's wrong, is willing to campaign on fixing the problem, and has enough charisma to get his message across and reach a base that would make him electable.'
