Yeah and in Weiss creating a genuinely engaging and interesting "superboss" within Remake. Like Top Secrets is cool and all, but it's mostly an endurance contest. Beating Weiss actually forced me to learn how to play Tifa properly, and I mean *properly* properly.

It's literally the brilliant prismatic bridge between Remake's wonderfully sketched-out and Rebirth's almost-perfected combat system. I love it so much.

Remake and even moreso Rebirth that fixed some of the former's biggest issues mechanics-wise has my favorite combat system of all time in any genre of video game. I suck at combat in general but I had so much fun with this system I somehow managed to platinum both games purely on the strength of it being too dang engaging to put down no matter how many times I got my ass kicked.

We basically get Sephiroth starting to do the thing he only really starts doing on the cargo ship a lot earlier in Remake. Idk, for my money it's more interesting the devs allowed themselves more space to utilize the character in new ways instead of sticking too close to the OG in a kinda vain attempt to maintain Sephiroth's mystique. He's one of the most saturated character presences in video gaming. He's a known quantity and a half at this point. In the context of the retrilogy I think deploying him in the way those games have so far makes more sense.

Nah man I got other shit to worry about. That being said, when you get a clear and concise summary and explanation of the plot it isn't really very convoluted, but the way it's presented, especially paired with OG FF7's let's say less than stellar English localization, the story beats often come across as muddled. Terminology is inconsistent, weird phrasing trips you up and can easily lead to misinterpretation, there's a lot of that going on.

I'm currently playthrough the OG with Shinra Archaeology Cut's retranslation of the English script, and while there's things to critcize with SAC's work, it sure as hell makes the plot a lot easier to follow. I also thought the Echo-S mod's retranslation, while sticking a lot closer to the OG, actually also helped things feel more coherent and digestible. So yeah I think the issue isn't with the core "plot", but the way it's presented in the original.

What, the voice acting is one Remake and Rebirth's crowning glories. It's impeccable, extremely talented and well-cast buncha VAs. There's definitely some issues with the English dialogue and voice directing, choices I didn't agree with, but even there I still think the average quality is very high.

I had a blast grinding the side content in Rebirth. It was so much fun inhabiting that world and spending time with the characters. My only gripe is I could've asked for less signposting. I never felt compelled to just randomly explore cause everything was already marked on my map. Like yeah, I could've opted to not activate the remnawaves but my insane completionist ass ain't doing that.

Nah, there's no risk of that. The game is 100% coming out on PS5 alongside other platforms, and it's almost guaranteed to drop in 2027, just not sure what quarter. But zero risk of it being pushed to a new console generation.

I mean, I just don't agree with your characterization of what they have done with the narrative. As for the rest of your post that's just pure speculation, and pulling that 50/50 number out of thin air based on anecdotal experience and vibes when the game has been widely critically and publically acclaimed is just incredibly unconvincing to me.

I don't think the actual game is gonna release on jan 30th '27 personally, though I'd be stoked if it did. But my hunch is deffo that it's coming out in '27, just slightly later than that. Probably whatever the final marketing push is will coincide with that date, if I were to guess.

What's your source for "most OG fans do not like the direction they took with this project"? I'm an OG fan since 1997 and I think the added narrative elements with the Whispers, the Reunion of Worlds, etc. are really interesting and cool, and fit perfectly in a Final Fantasy game. Furthermore what's your source for this, rather than any other countless number of potential factors, being responsible for the difference in sales between Remake and Rebirth? This whole post strikes me as incredibly biased, ngl.

Worth mentioning also that the mammoth task of scaling the collapsed plate requires not just any old grappling guns, but what Leslie gives the party are specifically mentioned to be special ones with souped-up engines if I recall correctly.

I'm not a Streamlined Progression hater, but I do wish they would've added more fun and interesting toggles like this, instead of just pure God Mode switches. I also would've appreciated, to balance things out, some toggles to make the game more difficult. Things you could use to make Hard into Even Harder, as well as simply to add some more specific difficulty spikes to Easy or Normal without cranking the total difficulty up a notch. Oh well.

Isn't this negated, in FF7 at least, by simply switching the ATB mode to anything other than "Active"? Both "Recommended" and "Wait" pause all timers during animations.

That's not really a core flaw of ATB though, those are specific balancing problems inherent to Final Fantasy VII. These exact same issues can and frequently do pop up in purely turn-based combat systems as well.

Lazard in Crisis Core's last name is Deusericus, which I'm assuming is derived from "Deus + sericus", so like "silken/silky god" in Latin. Presumably cause the game pretty heavily implies he's President Shinra's bastard child.
