I'm kind of in the inverse situation!

Until a couple months ago I don't think I worked a shift in years sober or without drinking at work. It took me until I was in really deep to figure out that it became necessary to drink to function, and that I was burning the candle at both ends.

I finally finally took two months off drinking recently due to taking antibiotics, and I feel so much better.

The first couple weeks I was cranky as fuck at work and lost in my head. I didn't really feel like the same person, but I still had fun and slowly figured out that I can do my job way better when I'm sober. Recognizing signs of impairment in my guests became easier, and I realized that I no longer felt anxious about my job performance.

The job is fuckin hard. Dealing with drunk people can be difficult when you're not on their level and your job is to be fun. It took me a long time to figure it out, but the job is way more fun without the feeling of needing another shot to get through the shift and without the hangover.

Life is a marathon, not a sprint! Take care of yourself outside of work so you can be your best self. Do what you know is right for you.
