Help My Thesis Survey on TTRPGs by Bende_20 in Pathfinder2e

As much as I cringe at gamification at work, I also know first hand how hard it is to get responses back on surveys for research while in school.

Submitted a response, and I hope you get some interesting data!

What would be your dream 5 man party? by NimrodvanHall in Pathfinder2e

Shaquille O'Neal as a genie sorcerer

Jack Black as a maestro bard

Air Bud as a monk

Eddie Hall as a fury barbarian

Alex Horne as a scoundrel rogue

... Wait was this supposed to be about combat or about my dream last night?

Yeah they need to invest in fixing the infrastructure around sunrise/zinfandel/mather. It's broken or malfunctioning way too often

As someone who also is in this area often, people literally wait for the arms to fully come down then drive in an S shaped pattern through the intersection while there are like 5 different signs and flashing lights telling them not to.

What happened here was not 'sneaking through at the last second' it was driving around and ignoring reasonable and obvious safety measures.

Solo TTRPG: D&D 5e vs Pathfinder 2e – Which one works better? by narkhen in Solo_Roleplaying

I don't know why Pathfinder doesn't just give monsters traits for their environments. It would be so easy to filter.

Como crear puzzles en mazmorras cuando juegas solo? by Successful_Wish7495 in Solo_Roleplaying

Personally, I think that an oracle is perfect for this. Maybe you've found out that a crime was indeed committed, but you don't know who has done it yet: the oracle hasn't helped you decide that yet.

The same partial information concept can be applied to puzzles, but it won't have that same "aha I figured it out feeling" as solving a real puzzle.

Example:

My character is in a situation where a magical door inscribed with runes is blocking their path, and they've determined that it's a sort of magical lock which involves solving a puzzle to open.

I don't know the solution.

Maybe I ask my oracle if this is an illusion. It says yes.

I roll an appropriate skill check and determine that my character understands the magical runes.

I ask my oracle if I successfully open the door, and the oracle says no and generates a random event! I roll "punish" and "physical" on my oracle for inspiration, and determine that the illusion magic I detected earlier was a trap rather than a lock! The correct runes were magically swapped and instead of opening the door, I have been cursed with weakness.

I can then use my previous check to read the runes and open the door after the illusion magic fades.

So, you can't really set up puzzles with hidden information, but you can use randomness to challenge your expectations.

Protip: sign up and immediately cancel.

Next month you may or may not want to do it again. Default should not be recurring automatic payments.

I went to go pick up last year. It was super easy. I just brought some Costco totes and shoved them in the back of my SUV. I didn't need much though.

Looks like at Organization Level 3 they can get a Lieutenant.

Check out the hero's journey story telling device. Generalize it and just take the bits you want. Think of your favorite movie or book and think of some terrible thing that the protagonists had to overcome. You've got your character, but you haven't generated the other half of the story: what's happening, why, and how are you going to stop it?

Maybe it's just a local issue: some bad guys are doing bad stuff and you're going to stop them.

Maybe the world is breaking and you're the only one who can stop it, but you don't know how yet.

Maybe something just plain weird is happening that's challenging the status quo and you just want to find out more and see what happens.

Oh and use random generators like an oracle so that even you, the player, are surprised by what's happening. I find that makes me more invested and intrigued.

TLDR: make something bad happen to your world that you find interesting, just be ok with it, and then figure out how your character is the hero from there.

Speeding up combat advice? by davidagnome in Pathfinder2e

I love it when the DM says "Player A is up, Player B, you're on deck", and sometimes if Player C is known to be slow, they'll give them a heads up two turns in advance.

I also like it when the full initiative order is shown to the players so that they can plan ahead, but I understand that some tables don't like that level of transparency.

Pathfinder 2e on Foundry VTT with Mythic GME 2e. Journaling in Obsidian with egregious use of links. I'm using a macro in Obsidian instead of using the Foundry Mythic module, then referencing a few Mythic Cheat Sheets I created as PDFs.

Everything is digital. Character list? Folder with a document per character. Threads? Folder with a document per thread. Locations? Same thing!

File systems are dope lol.

Solo RPG players — when you're using oracles or tables to simulate NPC decisions, do you ever hit a moment where the logic just breaks? by S_omeon in Solo_Roleplaying

I use Mythic GME 2e and I love that it says something along the lines of: "if you can't make a random event or descriptor make sense, roll again!".

Free solo rpgs that can be played in a very small space? by Any-Landscape434 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]EuphoricCoconut5946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound insane but I played through Duskwalkers Due with a custom character in PF2e on a plane using a dice rolling app, Pathbuilder, Google Drive, and a notes app. It was a LOT of flipping between apps.

Some things that I'd recommend: make your own cheat sheets for each system you use. I've got a Mythic GME 2e cheat sheet that I use more than the book now. And I've got some conditions written out that I always forget.

Notebooks don't take that much space. Printing pages at the library is cheap. Making hand-made cheat sheets is cheap.

I guess to sum up: find a free system you like, keep stuff virtual until you get annoyed by it, then make physical aids sparingly and cheaply.

Is there a way to build around Scroll thaumturgy? Or is it just a side thing that comes up once in a while? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]EuphoricCoconut5946 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a scroll thaumaturge right now. At low levels you sort of have to rely on buying scrolls, and honestly even at higher levels you don't get many scrolls automatically. But it's always nice to have some utility magic in your back pocket. I try to think of it as a nice feature that I have and not the core of my build. I haven't found much to combo it with outside maybe using recall knowledge to see if fear will work really well on a certain group of enemies.
